Forgotten Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek is making efforts to secure a move to Barcelona in January, according to a report in Spanish media.

Luis Miguelsanz, a reporter for Sport, contends the Van de Beek wants to “offer…himself to Barcelona” after having fallen firmly down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Despite having previously thrived under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag at Ajax, Van de Beek’s struggles to impose himself at United have persisted during the Dutch manager’s tenure.

Van de Beek had appeared certain to secure a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, with Real Sociedad reportedly close to agreeing a loan deal with United. Negotiations faltered, however, and the Dutch star remained.

Van de Beek has played twenty-one minutes of senior football since that point. Ten Hag has openly indicated it is not a positive situation for the player and is said to be happy with him leaving in January in search of more consistent minutes.

At present, Barcelona are experiencing its own midfield problems, with teenage sensation Gavi likely ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

Miguelsanz reports the coaching staff at Camp Nou are open to additional midfield reinforcements in January should the budget allow it. They are conscious of how draining a full season can be on a depleted squad, particularly in midfield.

The executive branch of Barcelona is thought to not be in favour of such a move, however. Their doubts over Van de Beek are said to be “very high.”

Nonetheless, Miguelsanz does believe Van de Beek’s profile is suited to Barcelona and reveals the club were “very close” to signing the Dutchman after their successful pursuit of his former team-mate, Frenkie De Jong. The pair enjoyed great success as a midfield pairing under Ten Hag; Van de Beek operating as the free-roaming attacking midfielder while De Jong sat deeper, playing as the conduit between defence and attack.

As such, a move for Van de Beek may make short-term sense for Barcelona. It certainly would for United, who are eminently keen to offload an unwanted player on significant wages ahead of what may be a busy window at Old Trafford.

Juventus are the team most strongly linked with Van de Beek, as explained here. Miguelsanz contends the Italian giants are “convinced that [Van de Beek] can once again be a very important footballer,” as he was in Amsterdam.

Officials at Old Trafford will have no preference over which European side offers Van de Beek an escape from United in January, just that he does depart.

A limp Manchester United suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday, heaping further pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

The players put in yet another disjointed performance with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial particularly poor as the hosts at times bullied the Red Devils.

Injuries to key players and poor form have derailed United’s campaign but the manager is not without blame either. It is clear to see that the Dutchman needs help in the transfer market if he is to salvage the season.

Donny needs to leave and play

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s entry set to be delayed, not much in terms of incomings is expected unless, of course, the club can move on certain players.

One player who was sitting on the bench during the Newcastle game but has hardly had any chances so far this term is midfielder Donny van de Beek.

He has endured a nightmare spell since he arrived at Old Trafford, hardly getting a chance under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his former Ajax coach.

The Dutch midfielder has made two appearances in the current campaign, totaling 21 minutes of action with the manager recently claiming his compatriot needed to leave to earn more game time.

The former Ajax star has himself revealed that he is itching to play and as per La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), as many as four Italian clubs are interested in a potential loan deal.

Serie A interest

While United would prefer to sell him permanently, they are aware that they will need to send him out temporarily while paying a portion of his wages. Juventus’ interest has been reported by The Peoples Person.

But surprisingly, they are cited in the report as having the lowest chance of landing the versatile midfielder.

That is because United want to send the player to a club where he can play the most, which can in turn help them sell for a higher amount in the summer.

Genoa are a genuine option as the Serie A side had already tried to get Van De Beek on loan last summer. The 26-year-old has also been offered to Fiorentina and Atalanta.

Atalanta’s Dutch contingent could help the United star settle faster. It will be interesting to see where the player ends up in January as he aims to revive his career.

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has claimed that Donny van de Beek needs to play football to save his career. This doesn’t appear to be at Old Trafford.

The Peoples Person reported yesterday that in response to a question on whether the Dutch midfielder would be allowed to leave the club in the winter, Ten Hag retorted, “Donny has to play”.

The Manchester Evening News (MEN) also claimed that the 26 year old is free to leave in the January window.

The former Ajax star has become a forgotten man at United and is most definitely seen as surplus to requirements at the club. The attacking midfielder has only played 21 minutes all season and in his United career, he has only pulled on the shirt 62 times in almost three and a half seasons.

Van de Beek has only managed to start 23 of these games. To put this in context, under-fire goalkeeper, Andre Onana, already has 20 starts to his name at the club since joining in July.

The Dutchman has even been omitted from the Champions League squad and with the emergence of starlet, Kobbie Mainoo, there is yet another large obstacle in his way to represent the Red Devils.

In yesterday’s press conference, Ten Hag claimed that Van de Beek has “been in the squad and has had an opportunity”.

The manager went on to explain that the midfielder has had to “recover from physical setbacks” earlier in the season and now “he’s been doing really well in the training”.

However, the key moment was when the coach said, “from his perspective, he has to play for his career”.

The Peoples Person has reported extensively on the topic of the Dutch international leaving the club. Just last week, Van de Beek stated, “I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious as I have always been a lover of the game”.

The former Ajax man has also been linked to various clubs such as Juventus and Galatasaray in recent weeks.

The Italian outfit are said to harbour an interest in all of Van de Beek, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Furthermore, just this week, Galatasaray were reported to be keen to use United’s presence in Turkey to initiate talks for the wantaway player.

What is clear is that Van de Beek’s nightmare Old Trafford career needs to end. He knows it and it is now abundantly clear from the press conference, if it wasn’t already, that Ten Hag knows it. It will be interesting to see if the 26 year old finally gets his move this winter and gets a chance to rekindle the dying embers of his career elsewhere.

A report within Italian media has suggested Juventus could make a double swoop at Old Trafford for Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek.

For differing reasons, the pair, signed during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as manager at Manchester United, have fallen out of favour under current boss Erik ten Hag.

A report by The Peoples Person a few weeks ago had revealed the club were seeking to offload both players in January, in the hope of creating some more financial flexibility to bring in replacements. Juventus was suggested as a possible option for both.

This assessment was today corroborated by Corriere Dello Sport, an Italian outlet, who suggested Juventus were hoping to “conclude a double transfer deal” with their United counterparts for the unwanted duo.

The Italian giants have been experiencing something of a crisis in midfield following the enforced unavailability of Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli. As such, Van de Beek could offer a short-term fix to this problem in the centre of the pitch.

Corriere Dello Sport suggests, therefore, a six-month loan with an option to purchase next summer may be a deal which suits both parties.

In regards to Sancho, however, the report indicates United are requesting a fee of at least €30 million to secure his services on a permanent basis. This appears to be one of the first times a minimum figure for Sancho’s sale has been revealed.

If a deal was struck at this price, it would constitute a loss of over £50 million from the deal agreed to bring Sancho to Manchester from Dortmund two and half years ago.

Corriere Dello Sport indicate Juventus have had “their sights [on Sancho] for some time” whose natural talent has never been in question. Rather, it is Sancho’s mentality and application which have derailed his career at Old Trafford.

Reports of unprofessionalism and a lack of dedication in training have been long-standing critiques of the winger, with Ten Hag appearing to reached breaking point with him earlier in the season. Sancho has not played for, nor trained with, the first-team since the pair’s public dispute in September.

With reports suggesting United are hoping for a busy January transfer window – with as many as four possible positions being targeted – the club will be reliant on outgoing players to generate some much-needed income.

Being able to shift two players – who have been virtually forgotten by the United fanbase such is their lack of meaningful first-team minutes – could prove crucial to these plans.

Manchester United were the most in-form side heading into the international break. But ahead of their crucial Premier League encounter against Everton, storm clouds are gathering once again over Old Trafford.

The reason being quite a few established first-team stars are looking for the exit door, either being unhappy with their lack of minutes or with the disastrous start to the season.

Casemiro is one of them with the midfielder unhappy with the club’s trajectory while Raphael Varane is not too impressed with manager Erik ten Hag picking Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans ahead of him.

Another midfielder who is looking to leave the club in January is Donny van de Beek who has managed only two appearances this season, totaling 21 minutes of action.

Donny wants to play more

The Dutch midfielder was excluded from this year’s Champions League squad and despite his former Ajax manager’s arrival, his fortunes have not changed.

Signed by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Van de Beek has started only six times in the Premier League in over three seasons, highlighting how no manager has managed to find a place for him in the team.

The 26-year-old suffered a knee injury last season which required surgery and that did not help matters and despite scoring a goal in pre-season, he could not find a buyer during the summer transfer window.

The likes of Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, and Lorient were just a few names interested in his services but concerns about his form and fitness meant no deal was reached.

The versatile midfielder, in an interview with The Daily Mirror, has now highlighted how he is desperate to play football regularly and is eager to find a new home in January.

The Netherlands international is aware of the competition for places at Old Trafford and while he is happy in Manchester, he wants to play regularly.

“I am bouncing to play matches again. The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We’ll see in January what happens.

“I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious as I have always been a lover of the game.

“I’m absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

Donny exit on the cards

The former Ajax star could get a few chances considering the injuries in midfield but whether he can start a game remains in doubt.

Van de Beek remains popular among fans who understand that his move has not worked out in the manner the player would have hoped for.

The Dutchman also admitted that he is delighted with the fact that he can still call himself a United player but conceded it is high time he looks for another opportunity and he has been training like an animal to get more chances between now and the beginning of the winter window.

“Last season I was sidelined for months due to my knee injury. You miss it terribly. I appreciate even more that I have a fabulous job. I am at a legendary club and I am still proud every day to wear the Manchester United shirt.

“But I am bursting with energy now that I am top fit again and I am really training like an animal. The time has come to make a different choice.”

United will entertain only permanent offers and the player is valued at €10 million as per Transfermarkt. Anything above that figure would represent a decent offer for the Red Devils.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge of the club has been far from perfect with injuries and controversies threatening to derail the campaign.

While results in the Premier League have picked up in the past month, there is a lot of turmoil surrounding the futures of several high-profile first-team stars.

Raphael Varane, who was first choice when fit last season, has seen his minutes as a starter reduce due to a combination of his poor injury record and the form of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans.

Multiple January exits on the cards

The World Cup winner is said to be unhappy with his descent down the pecking order and there is interest from Bayern Munich and even Chelsea for his services.

Then there is the Jadon Sancho situation, with the winger banished from the first team after a public falling out with the manager after he called out the boss on social media and refused to apologise.

An exit is highly likely in January with Saudi Arabian clubs interested but the player would prefer to stay in Europe.

Donny van de Beek has endured a nightmare spell at Old Trafford and despite his former Ajax coach’s arrival, his fortunes have not changed one bit.

The 26-year-old, who was excluded from United’s Champions League squad, has made two appearances across all competitions totaling 21 minutes of action.

Turkish clubs were lining up for his signature but now it seems all three players are being eyed by Serie A giants Juventus.

The Old Lady’s interest in the United winger was known but Tuttomercatoweb have now added the midfielder and defender to their list of targets.

The Turin-based outfit are said to be ready to do a deal for all three in January itself but if they do not acquire their targets in winter, they are prepared to return next summer.

Juventus eyeing triple raid

“Juventus are keeping an eye on the “redundancy” situation at Manchester United. In fact, the Bianconeri would be interested in three players leaving the “Red Devils”, in January or, at the latest, in summer.

“They would be the French central defender Varane, the Dutch midfielder Van De Beek, and Jadon Sancho, a winger for the English national team who has already been in Juve’s sights for a few weeks.”

Whether Juventus have the funds to complete all three deals in January remains a doubt. Apart from possibly Sancho, United will certainly not entertain any loan moves for the other two.

They want permanent exits sho that they can use the money generated to strengthen the squad. While Van de Beek and Sancho’s exits appear to be only a matter of time, the French World Cup winner could yet stay till the end of the season.

Galatasaray are plotting to hold talks with Manchester United for the possible January signing of Donny van de Beek when the two sides face off against each other later this month in the Champions League.

United are set to travel to Turkey to take on Galatasaray on November 29 in a simply must-win affair.

At the moment, Erik ten Hag’s men are bottom of Group A with just three points.

According to Sporx, Galatasaray are keen to use United’s presence in Turkey for the match, to initiate talks for Donny van de Beek.

During the summer transfer window, Van de Beek was linked to a number of clubs including Fenerbahce, Royal Antwerp, Lorient and Galatasaray, but nothing materialized.

The Dutch midfielder ended up staying at Old Trafford, where his struggle for minutes has continued this term.

So far this season, Van de Beek has made just two appearances, which have come as a substitute in the Premier League and Carabao Cup. In total, the player has only accumulated 21 minutes of competitive football under his belt.

To say he is surplus to requirements would be a massive understatement.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person suggested that Galatasaray are keen on offering Van de Beek an exit route away from Old Trafford.

Sporx has now given an update and indicated that “contact will be established” with United for Van de Beek when the Red Devils arrive in Istanbul on November 29.

It’s understood that before the match, Okan Buruk’s side will take the opportunity to officially express their interest in the Netherlands international.

On his part, Van de Beek is open to securing a move to a club where he will be guaranteed significant playing time.

The 26-year-old is eager to get his career back on track and regain his place in the national team ahead of the 2024 Euros.

Sporx adds that United have slapped a €15m price tag on Van de Beek but since he does not feature heavily in Ten Hag’s plans, the 20-time English champions could be convinced to accept a lower offer.

Injuries and poor form have forced Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to constantly reshuffle his deck and that has not allowed players the momentum to build on.

Most often this season, the team has looked lost, almost like they have not played together and it has been most evident in midfield where the Dutchman still does not know his strongest combination.

Casemiro’s underwhelming campaign thus far has been a major source of consternation for the former Ajax coach while zeroing in on his ideal midfield partner has also proven to be a tough ask.

The season started with the Brazilian midfield general being accompanied by new £55 million signing Mason Mount but the combination lacked balance with the former Chelsea man playing way too advanced, thus leaving a lot of gaps for the opposition to exploit.

Mount has struggled to get integrated

The England international’s versatility means he can play all across the midfield and his relentless pressing and passing attributes were on show when he was played further forward against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.

But when playing in a more withdrawn role, Mount’s lack of physicality and his tendency to drift into advanced areas has hindered the team and has led to a lack of balance.

His underwhelming start to his United career was followed by an injury-enforced absence and while he has shown glimpses of his talent since coming back, the 24-year-old is struggling for game time.

The Champions League winner is yet to record a goal or assist in the Premier League or Champions League and has started only four times in the league and once in Europe.

As per journalist Steve Bates, who writes in Givemesport, there is a genuine concern at the club regarding what the future holds for Mount, with many even comparing his situation with that of Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch midfielder had arrived as a world-beater but former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just could not find the right role for him and now the midfielder is desperately trying to end his Old Trafford nightmare.

“Erik ten Hag’s mind will no doubt be whirring with a handful of dilemmas during the international break. And it’s odds on that high on that list is Mason Mount.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, manager when the Dutch midfielder signed from Ajax, never successfully integrated van de Beek into the team, struggling to find the right position for the Netherlands international.

Can ETH solve Mount puzzle?

“And it’s clear Ten Hag has also yet to solve the puzzle of where to play Mount with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay all in the team ahead of him. Yet another example of why United’s transfer policy often appears flawed.”

The comparison seems apt as both are versatile stars, too versatile, in fact, for their own good and cannot shine in one specified role especially due to the presence of players who are better suited to a certain role.

Mount cannot play as a defensive midfielder and he does not possess the same passing attributes as Christian Eriksen. As the attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes remains ahead of the Englishman. Same went for Donny.

It will be interesting to see how Ten Hag goes on to solve this dilemma. Once Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrives, he will take a good look into United’s flawed transfer policy and such deals might not happen with such alarming regularity under the INEOS chairman.

Manchester United’s Champions League group A rivals, Galatasaray, have expressed an interest in signing Dutch midfielder, Donny Van de Beek.

The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford in 2020 with an impressive reputation. Part of Erik ten Hag’s youthful Ajax team that reached the semi-finals of Europe’s premier competition in 2019, a host of European giants were hungry for the Dutch player’s signature.

In fact, the Netherlands international claimed that practically everything was agreed for a move to Real Madrid before his move to Manchester came to pass. However, for whatever reason, the transfer was never completed and he became Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first signing of the 2020 window.

Despite initial promise, Van de Beek has had a torrid time at the club. The 26 year old has only managed to play 62 times for United and score two goals in what is now his fourth season at the club.

A combination of poor form and injury have resulted in the midfielder’s ridiculously low playing time. Van de Beek was regularly subbed on in the final ten minutes or simply left on the bench under Solskjær’s tenure. The man from Nijkerkerveen rarely got much of a chance in his first couple of seasons.

Additionally, his lack of playing time under the Norwegian coach became a hotly debated topic amongst fans and pundits alike. However, to be truthful, when the Dutchman has had the chance to play, he has always looked like a round peg in a square hole.

It must also be said that Van de Beek hardly took his chance when he went out on loan to Everton during the 2021-22 season, where he played seven times and scored one goal before sustaining an injury.

Resultingly, the midfielder has been linked with a kaleidoscope of different sides ever since his first season at the club. Many felt this summer would be the time the Dutchman would finally escape his Old Trafford nightmare. The Peoples Person reported that many teams wanted him on loan, but no move came to pass.

Teams such as former club Ajax, Italian giants Juventus and Turkish household name, Fenerbache have all been reported as potential destinations for Donny.

Now it is the turn of Galatasaray to be linked to the attacking midfielder. Fichajes.net have claimed that the Turkish club could be tempted to make a move in the winter market for the player. The outlet points to the fact that the player has no place in Ten Hag’s plans. This can be seen in the fact he has only played 2 games all season for the club despite the side being plagued by injuries. He was also not even registered to play in the Champions League by the manager.

United would certainly be keen to offload the player to not only free up squad space but also generate funds to bring in players in the winter market. Defenders such as Jean-Clair Todibo are apparently high up on the Red Devils’ priority list, if the money is available.

The Spanish transfer website also claims that the Turkish side face competition. Real Sociedad were linked all summer to the Dutchman but never got a deal over the line.

As mentioned here previously , the Spanish outlet also list Inter Milan as potential competition for Galatasaray.

What is abundantly obvious is that Van de Beek has no future in Manchester and desperately needs a move away to reignite his career. Whilst at Ajax he was once seen as one of the most exciting prospects in European football. Now he is the forgotten man.

Ajax manager Maurice Steijn has name-dropped struggling Manchester United star Donny van de Beek as someone who could help get his side out of their current predicament in terms of results.

At the moment, Ajax sit in 16th position in the Eredivisie, just two points above last-placed Utrecht.

It has been yet another challenging season for the Amsterdam giants, who have found it difficult to replicate their success after the exit of Erik ten Hag who joined United last summer.

Steijn spoke to reporters and suggested that one of the reasons for his side’s woes this campaign is that they lack enough quality and experienced players who are capable of making a difference when it really matters.

He said, “I look at the teenagers who can offer more than the players on the bench. Some senior players are not yet able to bring it in training and during substitute appearances.”

“I haven’t written them off. But I make different choices based on what I see in training and what I think the team needs.”

“Of course, this team would benefit incredibly from experienced players, such as Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek. Daley Blind and Dusan Tadic also excelled. We don’t have those guys, and that is a disadvantage for the team.”

Of all the players mentioned, Van de Beek seems to be the most attainable for Ajax considering his troubles at Old Trafford.

Since his £39m move in 2020, the Dutch midfielder has failed to nail down a regular starting berth at United or become an important squad member.

It was hoped that Ten Hag’s appointment could be the catalyst to finally get the 26-year-old out of this rut but unfortunately, that did not come to pass.

So far this campaign, Van de Beek has only managed two substitute appearances. He was not even registered in United’s official Champions League squad, such has been his decline.

The Red Devils tried to offload him during the summer transfer window. There was interest from Turkish clubs and Real Betis but nothing materialized.

Following Steijn’s admission, a return to Ajax could be the thing that hands Van de Beek the opportunity to revive his career.
