Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has seemingly rubbished any suggestions that Erik ten Hag does not have the support of the dressing room.

Amrabat spoke to the media after United’s 2-1 win against Chelsea. The Fiorentina loanee produced an impressive performance in the middle of the park that helped get his side over the line.

A double from Scott McTominay was enough to secure the win for the Red Devils against Mauricio Pochettino’s men at Old Trafford.

After United’s loss at the hands of Newcastle last week, reports started coming out that Ten Hag had lost a section of the dressing room with some players growing disillusioned with his tactics and methods.

The Dutchman was quick to refute such claims and this has now been backed by Amrabat.

The Moroccan spoke to beIN SPORTS and gave his verdict on the match vs. Chelsea including what he and his teammates truly think about Ten Hag.

He said about the manager, “He’s one of the best in the world. He’s a fantastic coach and we are all behind him.”

Amrabat praised McTominay for getting on the score sheet. “He played a very good game. He scored two goals. He didn’t want to score a hat-trick, just two, We won 2-1 and that is the most important thing.”

“We started very well. I think the whole game was good. We played very well and had a lot of confidence. We had a very good reaction.”

“I am very happy. We played attractive football, attacking football with a lot of pressing. The only negative is we need to score more goals but we won which is the most important thing.”

The 27-year-old opened up on his difficult start to life in the Premier League and admitted that this was occasioned by not having pre-season due to injury but he now feels stronger and is steadily adapting to the demands of English football.

He added, “I started [the season] with an injury and normally you need some time to adapt. But there was no time, the team needed me, so I had to jump in immediately and I’m a fighter, I will never say no when the manager needs me.”

Up next for United is yet another home game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Manchester United bounced back from their weekend abomination by outperforming Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The win was mainly down to the energy levels and determination shown by the players and manager Erik ten Hag deserves praise for being brave with his team selection.

Changes needed to be made after that horror show against Newcastle and a less brave manager would have played Marcus Rashford, after all, he was last season’s top scorer.

Antony a breath of fresh air

But the Dutchman played Antony on the right, who displayed tenacity and was always there for the team, be it in attack or while tracking back.

The Brazilian has no goals or assists this season but he should have had his first assist of the season when he won a penalty after a foul on him inside the box by Enzo Fernandez.

Bruno Fernandes ended up missing from the spot but the Brazilian did not let the miss affect him as he kept going and was a constant thorn on the right side.

He had 52 touches and made two key passes while creating one big chance, a sharp cry from what the Mancunian had produced a couple of days back.

He was not shy to shoot as well, having one shot on target, and one off target, and saw two attempts blocked (stats via Sofascore).

Tenacious Antony

His teammates gave him the ball in tight areas, and the Brazil international made efficient use of his quick feet, drawing the defender in and winning four fouls in the process.

His tenacious side helped him win seven duels, while he also made two tackles, showcasing he was ready to get dirty to help his side clinch victory.

Starting from his performance against Galatasaray in the Champions League last week, the former Ajax star is showing that he is slowly regaining his touch after a tough start to his second campaign in Manchester.

Now his effort needs to translate into goals and assists and that will help ease the pressure on him. Ten Hag needs more from his attacking players and Antony has the talent to provide it.

His display was a reminder of his talents and he should keep his place for the upcoming game against Bournemouth as well.

Patrice Evra, the former Manchester United left back, was gushing over his former side’s attitude in their 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

While talking to Amazon Prime Video Sport, the fan favourite also claimed that everybody on the team deserved credit for their effort on the night.

The Frenchman stated, “every player on the pitch today, they were determined. The players who were on the pitch, they killed themselves for the badge and played as a team. I think the star today was the team, it wasn’t just one player even if McTominay was man of the match today, but I saw players determined to win”

The Red Devils put in a much improved display versus the London side. On Saturday night, the team could only muster eight shots in total and one on target in the whole 90 minutes at St James’ Park.

Contrastingly, United roared back into form by attempting 28 shots with nine being on target. It was a much improved display in anyone’s book.

Evra commented on the disappointment of last weekend by stating, “they knew they had to do that after the disaster in Newcastle, and they did so, fair play to them”.

The United legend went on to make a controversial statement by asserting that the Scotsman reminds him “a little bit of Frank Lampard recently”.

McTominay has enjoyed a prolific goalscoring season, with six goals for the Old Trafford side. He has also scored two braces which have been match winning against both Brentford and Chelsea.

The comparison will probably make a bad night even worse for the Chelsea fans travelling back down to London.

The Scotsman has been in red-hot form this season and is the club’s top scorer in all competitions. However, one feels Evra’s comment was a little tongue-in-cheek.

The Frenchman also warned that it will be a challenge for two attackers left on the bench to find their way back into the side.

Evra stated, “I think it will be tough for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to come back into the starting eleven”.

Finally, the United legend, clearly in good spirits after the win, joked about the former Manchester City player and Chelsea goalscorer on the night, Cole Palmer. It is quite well known that Palmer is a United fan and Evra responded, “I think he let us down. I need to talk to his parents. I know he grew up as a United fan but he ended up playing for City and scoring against Manchester United. He must not be a real fan”.

Evra always brings entertainment, whether it be biting into raw chicken live on social media or eating the Old Trafford grass. There is another a dull moment with United’s former number three.

Manchester United clinched all three points after beating Chelsea by two goals to one at Old Trafford.

A sensational Scott McTominay brace in either half was enough to ensure United got back to winning ways in the Premier League and relieve some of the pressure that was mounting on Erik ten Hag and his players.

United only had 44% of the ball to Chelsea’s 56% possession.

Ten Hag’s men registered nine shots on target from their total 28 cracks at goal. In comparison, Chelsea had 13 total shots but only three of those required Andre Onana to swing into action.

United put together 388 passes with a success rate of 85%.

Chelsea strung 508 passes with a pass accuracy of 86%.

Crucial to the Red Devils’ success against the Blues was Sofyan Amrabat. He started as his side’s deepest-lying midfielder in a trio also consisting of McTominay and Bruno Fernandes.

Against Chelsea’s big-money midfield, Amrabat bossed the middle of the park and was vital in putting out whatever little threat Mauricio Pochettino’s stars posed.

During the 90 minutes he was on the pitch, the Moroccan had 61 touches of the ball to his name.

He successfully delivered 45 of the 49 passes he attempted, amassing a personal pass accuracy of 92%.

The Fiorentina loanee made one key pass. Amrabat embarked on two dribbles and came out on top in both instances.

He delved into seven ground duels and won five of them. The 27-year-old was not required to contest any challenges aerially.

Amrabat also had three tackles to his name.

(Stats obtained from Sofascore)

Certainly, Amrabat has put himself in contention to be included in the starting XI once more when United take on Bournemouth on Saturday.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has indicated that Erik ten Hag’s switch from heavy-based training sessions to lighter drills before the Chelsea match helped the team win against the Blues.

United beat Chelsea by two goals to one at Old Trafford.

McTominay, who is currently experiencing a rich vein of goalscoring form, grabbed a sensational brace.

The Scotland international spoke to Amazon Prime after the final whistle and gave his verdict on the match. He opened up about the change in training sanctioned by Ten Hag.

This season, United have had a crippling injury crisis, with up to 17 different players having been unavailable at various points of the campaign due to physical setbacks.

It was suggested that Ten Hag’s intense training sessions could be partly to blame for several United players picking up non-contact muscular injuries.

McTominay told Amazon, “The way that we approached the game [was vital to win against Chelsea]. A lot of light training sessions to keep energy, to keep fresh and go for the next game as they come thick and fast.”

“It is a night that we can be happy with and one that we should build on.”

McTominay is now United’s top goalscorer this term with six goals. He said about this, “I’ve always enjoyed getting in the box, and maybe on a different night, I could have had one or two more if I had calmed down on my last one for my hat trick, but that’s football.”

“I’m delighted to score two, but all the boys, Antony, Bruno [Fernandes], Harry Maguire; I could name a list of players who were world-class tonight.”

“But we have to show that consistently, which has not been the case of late.”

No doubt McTominay will be keen to add to his goal tally when United take on Bournemouth on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side responded brilliantly from an abject showing last weekend, by beating Chelsea on Wednesday night.

It was a much improved performance which saw the Red Devils create many more chances and the majority of players putting in admirable effort.

This is in stark contrast to what happened at St James’ Park.

Ten Hag seemed to share the sentiment as he told Amazon Prime Video Sport that, “it´s about results but you need a good performance to get the right result”.

Commenting on the game last weekend the Dutchman said, “we’re always talking about Newcastle but we played three games last week, we played two good ones but everyone talks about the bad”.

The manager went on to defend his side by claiming, “this is a good side and a good dressing room”. A recent report by Sky Sports suggested that the manager had lost 50% of the dressing room but this performance will go a long way to dispel such rumours.

The former Ajax coach also discussed the need the team felt to undo the negativity surrounding the club following such an insipid display versus Newcastle. “We wanted to put things right that’s clear. The crowd is always behind us, but we always have to please them”.

The Dutch coach then went on to praise the quality of the Premier League as a whole.

“This league is very strong and as you say everyone can beat everyone. When you don’t bring it in this league you get killed. If we don’t bring it on Saturday, we get killed”.

Ten Hag continued by stating that neither he nor his teams will be resting on their laurels for too long, however.

The man in the Old Trafford hotseat claimed, “when you win you can enjoy for 24 hours, but when you lose you should only mourn for 24 hours”.

The Dutchman, who has had a tetchy mood with the press this week asserted that, “the press should be always good, not only today. We stepped up in comparison with Saturday”.

The Manchester United manager will be hoping to see more of the same from his side in a crucial match against Bournemouth, as United aim to continue to close the gap on the top four as they are now only three points behind Manchester City.

Then, two mouth-watering contests in a must-win tie versus Bayern Munich and then a chance to avenge last year’s 7-0 drubbing at Anfield. This year’s United have been very much in the mould of Jekyll and Hyde. Let’s hope the right one turns up more frequently in what is a crucial festive month of football.

Manchester United calmed the storm around the club after the team beat Chelsea 2-1 in a performance that merited a much bigger scoreline.

On paper, the game against Chelsea after the battering against Newcastle was hardly ideal, especially in front of an anxious Old Trafford.

However, what transpired was one of United’s best attacking displays of the season.

The team created chances at will and finished with an xG (Expected Goals) figure of 4.46, which is the largest since…….Chelsea in May of this year.

It is a win for the stat aficionados who will say that Ten Hag’s team have got Chelsea’s number, bossing the Blues at home again.

The remarkable thing about this stat is that Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t even the manager of the club when the 5.31 xG was recorded.

Frank Lampard’s team were thoroughly outplayed that day as the Chelsea legend’s time at the club was coming to a whimpering end.

However, this will hurt Chelsea more, as they are at the starting stages of a new project and a United team in crisis mode has just bossed them.

United exploited Chelsea’s weakness on the wings, with Colvill not a natural fullback, Cucurella playing out of position at right-back in the first half, then Reece James not being match-fit.

Alejandro Garnacho had Chelsea’s fullbacks on skates for the entire game, while Antony had his best game of the season as well.

The expensively assembled midfield pivot of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo was left watching as United academy’s Scott McTominay helped himself to a brace.

Therefore, for Ten Hag, the problems might still be plenty at Old Trafford, but beating, and bossing Chelsea at home, is not one.

Manchester United returned to winning ways, overcoming fellow Premier League strugglers Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The scoreline does not tell the whole story as the hosts could have scored five or six on the night, while also could have conceded three.

Manager Erik ten Hag will be pleased with the intensity shown by his team after a lethargic display at the weekend which helped the side get all three points after all the pressure that had been heaped on him during the week by the British media.

An open, and entertaining contest, the game was ultimately decided by the United boss’ brave calls regarding team selection and with his impactful substitution.

ETH made the right selection calls

Forgoing the urge to keep playing Marcus Rashford who is currently looking like a shadow of the player that was top scorer last season, the manager was right to trust Antony on the right and play the in-form Alejandro Garnacho on the left, both of whom put in impressive displays.

The Brazilian has endured a tough time this season and he might not have contributed with a goal or assist, but he defended admirably when needed and was a constant menace while attacking.

He won a penalty which skipper Bruno Fernandes missed but he did not let his head drop after that and kept going, a sharp cry from what the boss saw from his forwards against Newcastle.

As for the Argentine, he was a constant thorn in the Blues’ side and he could have grabbed a couple of goals himself if not for some good saves from Robert Sanchez.

He keeps showing immense bravery and is not afraid to keep trying even when things are not coming off for him, a great trait to have as a winger.

The main difference between the duo on Wednesday and what Rashford and Anthony Martial produced on Saturday was the constant determination to keep pushing instead of blaming others and flailing their arms about.

Ten Hag’s substitutions have not always worked this season and they have often arrived too late but at half-time with the score reading 1-1, the manager would have been forgiven for not making too many changes considering the attacking display from his team.

Perfect sub to control the game even more

Instead, he opted to bring on Sergio Reguilon as left-back, thereby moving Luke Shaw to the heart of the defence and the move paid dividends.

The Spaniard might not be the best defensively, but he has boundless energy and loves to run forward and he ensured United kept attacking down the left in the second half.

The win means United are up to sixth and only three points behind defending champions Manchester City in fourth. A strange season indeed!

Up next are Bournemouth, who are in good form and the Reds will need to keep up the same level of intensity if they are to grab three points.

Manchester United showed grit and determination up front to clinch a crucial 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

With 28 shots on goal compared to Chelsea’s 13, Man United showed a rare display of dominance on the attack, constantly bombarding the visitors’ defence throughout the 90 minutes.

While Scott McTominay came away with United’s two goals, it was another player who truly emerged as the home team’s star player on the night.

From kick-off until the final whistle, Alejandro Garnacho produced a high-energy performance, spurring the United attack.

The winger completed 31 of his 39 passes for a 79% accuracy while getting 68 touches on the ball in total.

The 19 year old attempted six crosses, completing one, while one of his two long balls reached its target.

While his passing accuracy may not have been at its peak, the Argentine showed plenty of attacking desire, making three key passes – the second-highest total of either team.

On the attack, Garnacho took eight shots.

Five were off target, while one was on target and two were blocked.

He also attempted five dribbles, completing just one.

Despite his struggles to find the target, Garnacho did prove effective as a playmaker.

In the 69th minute, the winger drilled a precise cross toward McTominay at the far post, who headed home United’s winning goal.

Statistics aside, Garnacho showed speed, energy, and desire that has often been lacking on the wings for United this season.

Ultimately, Garnacho’s assist and his energetic performance helped to catapult United to a much-needed three points.

Manchester United produced a dominant performance to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The visitors held onto possession at the start, making a lot of short passes around the field until Harry Maguire dispossessed Nicholas Jackson with a crunching tackle.

A minute later, United decided to reestablish dominance in front of the Old Trafford crowd, with Bruno Fernandes unleashing a shot from distance that veered over the top.

Three minutes in, a masterful through ball by Luke Shaw reached Rasmus Hojlund, whose shot was saved by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez.

United continued to pile on the pressure, winning two corners that Chelsea struggled to defend against.

While Antony did well to swerve around Thiago Silva and unleash a shot on goal, it was deflected out for a corner.

Suddenly, the referee was called to the sideline to review a potential penalty after VAR determined that Antony’s foot was caught by Enzo Fernandes.

While the penalty was awarded, Bruno Fernandes scuppered the chance to hand United an early lead as his penalty was smoothly saved by the Blues’ shot-stopper.

11 minutes in, Chelsea launched a rapid counter-attack which saw Mykhailo Mudryk’s effort hit the post.

Moments later, it was United’s turn to strike, with Alejandro Garnacho’s close-range effort saved by the Chelsea goalkeeper.

In the 19th minute, Old Trafford erupted as United got the breakthrough they needed.

Scott McTominay picked up a loose ball in the box, flicking it up before burying it in the back of the net to send United into the lead.

Around 10 minutes later, McTominay was close to getting his second when he rose to header a Fernandes’ cross.

Unfortunately for United, Sanchez was perfectly placed to parry the shot, limiting the home team’s lead to one goal.

It didn’t take long for Chelsea to hit back, however, with an unmarked Jackson breaking through United’s defence to go one-on-one with Onana.

Ultimately, Onana was able to easily stop a soft attempt by the Chelsea striker.

United continued to pressure the Chelsea defence before half-time, with Fernandes striking a free kick into the wall to win a corner kick.

Shaw’s cross found Fernandes, whose shot sailed over the crossbar.

On the stroke of half-time, Cole Palmer got on the end of a Chelsea counter-attack and weaved his way past Victor Lindelof to get a view of the goalposts.

The Chelsea midfielder rolled a precise yet slow shot past Onana to the far post, thereby bringing the visitors back into the game.

Both Onana and Lindelof will surely be disappointed to have allowed the Blues to score such a soft goal.

Garnacho sent a threatening pass into the box in stoppage time, which Marc Cucurella managed to block with a sliding tackle.

While there were calls for a handball, a penalty was not awarded.

With United dominating for most of the first half, Erik ten Hag would no doubt be fuming at his defence for allowing Chelsea to claw their way back into the game.

Victor Lindelof was substituted at half-time, with Sergio Reguilon slotting in at left-back while Shaw shifted to the vacant centre-back position.

There was a lot of back-and-forth in the early stages of the second half, with both teams attempting to break away on the counter but lacking a final product.

Chelsea’s corner in the 48th minute found the head of Jackson, who thumped the ball over the top.

53 minutes in, Garnacho thought he would replicate his stunning goal against Everton with another overhead kick, however, this time, he missed by some distance.

Moments later, the Argentinian received the ball from Reguilon, weaving past two Chelsea defenders and curving an in-swinging shot toward the far post that narrowly went wide.

On the 60-minute mark, Antony came close to scoring when his shot from outside the block was deflected just inches past an off-guard Sanchez.

Following up from that opportunity, Shaw struck a hard shot goalwards which appeared to have struck Levi Colwill’s hand.

Ultimately, VAR determined that there was not enough in it for a penalty to be awarded.

McTominay fired another header goalward a few minutes later, however, Sanchez comfortably collected this effort.

In the 69th minute, McTominay succeeded, as he got on the end of a Garnacho cross to header United back into the lead.

Moments later, the home fans’ celebrations were cut short as VAR checked to see if McTominay committed a foul in the buildup to his goal.

Shortly after, Old Trafford breathed a collective sigh of relief as the goal stood.

In the 79th minute, Garnacho was given a prime opportunity to wrap up the game when he received an opportune through ball from Reguilon only to hit his shot wide of the far post.

Eight minutes from time, Diogo Dalot handed Chelsea a free kick, however, Enzo Fernandes’ shot was blocked, with Garnacho picking up the loose ball to launch a quick counter-attack.

Once Chelsea hit the ball out for a throw-in, a mostly absent Rasmus Hojlund was substituted for Marcus Rashford.

Garnacho was substituted before the final whistle, receiving massive applause for his stellar performance as he made way for Jonny Evans.

While the visitors attempted to pressure United’s back line in stoppage time it proved too little too late for the Blues.

Ten Hag would be proud of his team’s dominant performance and strength in attack as they finally defeated top-half opposition this season.
