Silence

16 Jan

“Silence is a source of great strength.” ~Lao Tzu

Silence 2
Silence

The silly normals spit and fight
And spew their rage with all their might
But even when they squeal their loudest scream

All theatrics are no match
For calm which always does dispatch
Their anger and makes it run out of steam

Silence is the greatest foe
Of those who complain of their woe
To say nothing back does create a void

That sucks in all the vengeful bile
While it returns just a slight smile
Leaving argument weak and destroyed

Silence is a weapon all
Possess but most don’t have the gall
To look a shouting person in the eye

And take all of the hateful talk
And be able to not let shock
And not feel driven to loudly reply

To not let a fool control speech
Instead to show, to lead, to teach
To forsake all the snide remarks and wit

To hear their ignorance and not
Feel compelled to return the shot
Instead to land a different kind of hit

The strike of grace across their chest
When only silence is expressed
To take ugliness and not give it back

The ones who can’t control their mouth
All feel a thundering kick south
When there is a silent counter-attack

When one stands fast and looks in eyes
And doesn’t blink while they hear lies
And doesn’t let “injustice” irritate

And rather than be affected
Their silent strength is projected
In ways that are impossible to state

Self-Influence

Self-Influence

Influence is all around
And often there’s no choice
You’re bombarded by many a
Selfish, frustrated voice

Surrounded by those impatient
Walk beside those with fear
Spend all day or night in presence
Of those with no cheer

And they are all influences on
Even the strongest will
Eventually they will heat up
And melt those who are chill

That is why it’s important
To make sure self-imposed
Influence is around us
So that we stay composed

Wear a piece of jewelry
That helps serve to remind
Of what you are, a Warrior
And by that be defined

If you are surrounded by
Those who exhibit rage
To counter their bad influence
You will have to engage

Auditory influence
That broadcasts peace, control
As they rant, rave and scream and shout
Play music with some soul

Counter all the influence
That is ugly and dark
Don’t just sit there and take it
Make an effort, embark

Surround yourself with opposite
Of the things that you hate
Things of beauty, things of peace
Things that slow your heart rate

Yes, the ones who are angry
Will be put off by it
And that is the perfect time to
Say, “I don’t give a shit”

They do not realize that they
Are influences of
Negativity and so
Of course they’re blind to love

State it clear: “This is what I
Choose as my influence
Not what you currently do
Put out, a vibe that’s tense

I choose this peace, this quiet
This control, this poise, this grace
This is the self-imposed influence
I choose to embrace

Because the influence you give
For me just doesn’t work
So look, listen and show restraint
Or elsewhere go berserk”

Dark and Quiet

Dark & Quiet

This message is more specific
Than most that I do write
It’s directed at people who
Wage a similar fight

It’s for those who are dealing with
A chronic kind of pain
Physical in body or
Emotional in brain

I’ve managed to reintegrate
Myself in the workforce
After years of having my
Ailments take me off course

I was not able to pick up
Exactly where I’d left
Some factors had to be tweaked and
Conditions made bereft

When one is constantly in pain
Your senses grow intense
Making things a bit darker
Serves as a good defense

The normal lighting tubes above
Which most will pay no mind
Over prolonged hours cause
Fatigue is what I find

And so I’ve made an effort to
Keep man-made light around
Dimmer than normal in order
To feel much less wound

Darkened lenses on my glasses
Also help to serve
To block excessive lighting in
Which plucks the painful nerve

Yes, some will look at you strange
Or say, “You think you’re cool?”
But to me, he who worries of
Such things is the real fool

The other factor that has helped
Is to keep the noise low
I’ve made an effort to stay clear
Of those who do bellow

And speak more loudly than is needed
All that extra noise
Over time will only serve
To erode all your poise

The truth is that most people talk
Far more than is required
And I have learned that excess only
Leads to getting tired

I choose my actions carefully
And made what I have last
And that applies to talking when
I’m contacted or asked

It isn’t necessary to
Just yammer on all day
And being one who has learned this
I like to stay away

From those who have no concept of
“Enough” because they just
Serve to be another pain
That is upon me thrust

Dark and quiet’s how I work
And where my peace does thrive
Dark and quiet’s how this broken
Vessel does survive

You cannot stop your body from
Breaking down, but you can
Change your outside factors and
Devise a fitting plan

To work around what holds you back
But you must have the guts
To make accommodations even
If they’ll think you’re nuts

Silence

1 Mar

“Soon silence will have passed into legend.  Man has turned his back on silence.  Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation… tooting, howling, screeching, booming, crashing, whistling, grinding, and trilling bolster his ego.  His anxiety subsides.  His inhuman void spreads monstrously like a gray vegetation.” ~Jean Arp

Silence

There once was a thing called silence
The amount of peace in it, immense
But a man then invented
A machine that prevented
Peace and quiet to dispense

Another man joined in as well
And more inventors did compel
We created inventions
Which increased our tensions
And bid our quiet peace farewell

Gadgets and machines all roaring
Ripping and tearing and boring
Into natural ways
Covering with loud haze
Most people were simply ignoring

But one day a warrior heard
Some silence and something had stirred
The absence of noise
Cultivated his poise
And the silence was what he preferred

Though it was a secret to the masses
The warrior learned that noise passes
When one simply turns knob
Lever, button, key fob
Or deprives machine of its life gasses

What followed was what had existed
Before the airways just persisted
Of buzzing and rumbling
And beeping and grumbling
Making peace and quiet all twisted

The warrior closed eyes and breathed
No more noise was being received
Surrounded by stillness
He felt his old illness
Fade away and felt relieved

“Amazing” he whispered out loud
And noticed with no noisy crowd
His soft spoken thought
Much more resonance brought
When it wasn’t covered by the shroud

Eventually warrior did rise
And again silence suffered demise
But he always recalled
How all of the noise stalled
When he turned it off and closed his eyes
