Wasted Days

Observation: Monday to Thursday for many folks
Are just four days in the way until weekend evokes
A sense of vigor to get up and get some real work done
To finally address their tasks instead of simply shun
To get to work on that project or answer an e-mail
To get that letter in the post or follow up that sale
To find the time to exercise or get in touch with friends
It seems to me that many times you’ll find most of these trends
Occur when Friday rolls around because the weekend’s near
But think of all that you could do if you just got in gear
Instead on Thursday, Wednesday or on Tuesday and not wait
Maybe even on Monday you’d find you’re never late
You’d never scramble for deadlines, you wouldn’t feel so stressed
You’d find with four days extra of trying your very best
You’d get a lot more done not just for yourself, but for others
You’d also find how often that you would have all your druthers
Do not waste a single day, all seven are a chance
To grow in productivity and steadily advance

Not That Busy

21 Feb

“When you are asked if you can do a job, tell ’em, ‘Certainly I can!’ Then get busy and find out how to do it.” ~Theodore Roosevelt

Not That Busy

A peculiar phenomenon
That I have always seen
Takes place whenever someone’s asked
To come out and convene

To take part in a get-together
With like-minded folks
There always seems to be a few
Who you just cannot coax

Because they’re “busy,” they have something
Going on that day
A thing that only takes up just
A fragment of their play

I’ve heard it time and time again,
“I’ve already made plans”
But what they say they’re busy with
Only few hours spans

I’ve even heard some blow it up
To wipe out a weekend
Events only four hours long
To the next day transcend

What is it about the mind
That says “You must recover”
“Write off the next day as well
For fear fatigue will hover”

I’ve heard some say they couldn’t make
A two minute phone call
Because they were so “busy” that
They were not free to stall

And yet I’ve seen those same people
With no minutes to spare
Drop it all to sit before
The TV and just stare

Watch their shows and movies and
Play endless video games
And later boast about their busy
Non-stop hectic claims

You’re not that busy, no one is
Don’t let your mind run wild
Don’t fall for thinking there are too
Many duties compiled

Call yourself on your B.S.
And don’t exaggerate
Never act as though you have
Far too much on your plate

Because each person knows the truth
That we are not that busy
Very few of us do reach
The point of being dizzy

Do not let your mind inflate
What’s being asked of you
And for the tasks you have right now
Take moment to review

Are you really that busy?
Is time really that rare?
Is stopping for a moment something
You would never dare?

I can only speak for one
In complete honesty
It wasn’t until I admitted
“I’m not that busy”

That my production level rose
And my training began
And people started calling me
“A wise, hard working man”

Training

28 Sep

Training

There was a warrior poet
By name of Archilochus
Who’s motto about life
Has given me great focus

He said “We don’t rise to
Our expectation’s level
We fall down to our training”
This concept does dishevel

Many people who
Like to procrastinate
Who like to put off things
Until a later date

Lazy people who
Do not put in the work
Who have the chance to train
But always choose to shirk

And when the pressure’s on
They hope that they will rise
But do not see that lack
Of training’s their demise

There is a reason why
Our champions are great
They possessed common sense
To not just sit and wait

They trained themselves each day
And when their moment came
The level of their training
Is what achieved acclaim

There’s reasons why people
Who have gained much success
Got it and it’s not
Because Lord did bless

It’s ‘cause they did the training
They engaged every day
As a chance to try
To strengthen in some way

To deal with things like stress
And plans not going right
To not let disappointments
Dishevel or incite

So do you have a goal?
A dream you wish to chase?
Will you do the training?
Will you pick up the pace?

Do you have the patience
To understand it takes
A champion much time?
That there aren’t lucky breaks?

That you will not rise to
The level of ambition?
Instead you will fall to
Whatever your condition

Is when moment comes
The shape that you are in
Based on how you’ve trained
Decides a loss or win

Later

9 Aug

Later

I don’t have time to write right now
This poem has to wait
I’m busy at the moment with
So darn much on my plate

I’ll reply to that e-mail that
You sent to me last week
When my workload isn’t at
Its utmost busy peak

I got your message and I meant
To call you back about
That thing you said but things came up
That I could not bail out

Got your text, whenever I
Do get the time, I will
Send you back a sentence but
You’ll have to wait until

I get a breather ‘cause I am
So damn busy right now
I barely have the time to wipe
A bead of sweat from brow

If there was in fact a bead
There isn’t, but I feel
Like there is because I’m working
So hard on this deal

I’ll get to everything later
Because at the moment
I’m too busy prioritizing
How my time is spent

Later because I don’t see
That now is the best time
‘Cause I don’t see the more I wait
The harder is the climb

Because I do not recognize
The ideal time to act
Is right away and more I wait
The more things will distract

So give me just a couple days
By then, it will not matter
You won’t care anymore and I
Won’t have the time to chatter

Works out perfectly for both
If it’s put off for later
Well, at least it does for me
If I make you the waiter

But did you get that note *I* sent
It’s crucial we commune!
I need an answer right away
So get back to me soon
