Warrior Self-Defense

26 Sep

“The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision.” ~Helen Keller

Warrior Self-Defense

When someone points a finger and says
I’ve said something wrong
I don’t feel need to go into
A self-defending song

Because those who aren’t fans of my
Warrior mentality
Are weaklings who get upset when
I say, “I disagree”

They don’t get what they want and so
They wear a “Boo-Boo Face”
They cry to everyone and show
Not much poise, tact, or grace

They gossip, whine and tattle since
Their weak words hold no weight
With me because I hear the truth
This is what I translate:

Their words say, “I am selfish” and
“I have no empathy”
“I think just of myself” and “I
Am spoiled, I’m not free

Of ego’s hold, I want, I want
And if I do not get
I whine! I cry! I hurt! Complain!
I moan, gripe and I fret!”

I never feel need to defend
My words because I know
It would make me as pathetic
As my cowardly foe

I know the truth is too complex
For such a simple mind
The ignorant and selfish are
To my motives quite blind

And so I just have one response
To weaklings who accuse
That I’m insensitive, that I
Lack tact, that I abuse:

“Pathetic,” is my rebuttal
“Pathetic, through and through”
The word “pathetic” cuts real deep
Because they know it’s true

‘Contemptibly inadequate
So why on Earth would I
Waste more than three syllables
When I give my reply?

Same Old Same Old

Yawn

Same Old Same Old

“Lately” I hear people say
“There aren’t many who go
The extra mile, try harder
Who want to learn and grow”

It’s the word “lately” that makes me
Laugh a Warrior’s laugh
There’s nothing recent about the
Urge to only give “half”

It’s not just in the past ten years
That people have tried less
It has been thousands of years that
They’ve chosen to regress

For those who’ve only recently
Noticed the downward spiral
Welcome to being awake
To selfishness gone viral

There are those who are new to this
And they will act so shocked
“I can’t believe! I can’t believe!”
They’ve talked and talked and talked

But Warriors know very well
On which world they do dwell
They aren’t surprised when ugliness
Sprouts from this same old hell

They aren’t surprised, they don’t act shocked
They aren’t appalled or mad
They don’t treat laziness or selfishness
As a new fad

It is as old as the hills, mountains
Rivers, lakes and seas
The selfish quest for comfort, luxury
Enjoyment, ease

The Warrior accepts what is
The same old same old same
And they do not cry out in anger
Or try to lay blame

What it is is what it is
And all that one can do
Is disagree with how things are
And not let it change you

Not let other’s laziness
Stop you from choosing to
Walk an extra mile when
Another beckons you

Not let other’s fear distract
From what needs to be done
Not let other’s threats dissuade
And make you turn and run

Same old selfish, thoughtless world
With many who are dense
Who are oblivious, ungrateful
And take great offense

Nothing new about it, folks
It’s been that way forever
And since the dawn of time, there’s been
Warriors who would never

Let such fearful, selfish, shabby
People influence
Their attitude, their emotions
Their mood or common sense

No Offense

No Offense

Offense is taken by people
Who are too sensitive
By those who think too highly of
Themselves and can’t forgive

What’s the big deal if someone
Lays an insult on you?
To take offense means that you take
Too much stock in their view

Why would any words upset
Offend, annoy or slight
A person who knows deep down what
Is wrong and what is right?

Offense shows that we care too much
About what’s being said
By people who do not deserve
A single, tiny shred

Of reverence or respect so
How could they cause offense?
Getting all worked up just makes
Us seem just that more dense

It also shows that we demand
A bit too much respect
In a world where there is little
Of it to collect

Offense shows a lack of control
Allowing others to
Influence our demeanor
When others make us stew

Nothing offends warriors
Because they let it go
They let the offensive things said
Continue to just flow

Through them, out them, onward to
The rest of the world’s noise
Never once allowing it
To sacrifice their poise

Next time that you take offense
Just ask yourself “How come?”
And with a little thought you’ll see
It really is quite dumb

To get worked up, to get upset
To let yourself get stressed
To let another person keep
You from being your best
