Spread The Fear

Spread the Fear

The radio turns on to wake you
For the next work day
The first thing that you hear is how
The world is in dismay

People being run over
By cars that fled the scene
Another child missing and
Another murdered teen

A cop shot down by bad guys while
Making an arrest
Right between the eyes and then
A couple in the chest

Earthquakes tearing buildings down
And storms that loom ahead
The more you tune in to the grief
The more the fear is spread

It slowly crawls off of the page,
TV, or radio
And creeps into your mind where it
Will never cease to grow

Countries warring with each other
“What if it spreads here?”
Economy is crashing, “I’ll lose
All things I hold dear!”

And more you fear, the more you’ll tune
Back into the fear vendors
Hoping that someone will rise
To become our defenders

Surprise, surprise, there’s just more fear
There’s just more ache and dread
Just more reasons to stay home
And not get out of bed

At some point you have to admit
That what they’re dolling out
Is no different than a drug
That you snort up your snout

Tuning in to hear the constant
Destruction and death
Makes you just like a junkie
Who’s addicted to meth

You’ve snorted, shot up and smoked it
So long that now you’re hooked
“A car crash on the 401?
Ah, now I’m feeling cooked”

“I’ve gotta see the news tonight!
Some kid got knifed at school!”
And when that story’s done, you’ll wait
For the next piece that’s cruel

You won’t find hope or strength or faith
When you go turn that dial
All they want to dispense is
All of their fearful bile

Stop the spread and tune out from
The news that does no good
The stories that discourage you
From seeing things that could

Set your mind at ease and rouse
Your passion and your nerve
To realize the greatest purpose
In life is to serve

The fear wants you to stay inside
And keep serving their needs
Listening to their commercials
Bringing them proceeds

The fear will keep you in your house
Curled up in a scared ball
Only when you turn it off
Can you start walking tall

Stepping Back

Stepping Back

The world’s become a smaller place, or rather it would seem
Thanks to wi-fi internet and video live stream
Instant tweets and Instagram and Facebook posts from those
Who suffer pain and use their phone to share all of their woes

We are indeed connected, each and every person here
But viewing hi-res images of events that aren’t near
Are causing a perspective loss, there’s folks who carry grief
For things half-way around the world with misguided belief

That there is something they can do by ranting or despairing
By hash-tagging and vlogging and by liking and by sharing
Focused half-way ‘round the world and not on what is near
Not present and not aware of their place on this sphere

Perhaps it’s time for stepping back from these world-wide events
These overwhelming weekly travesties that make no sense
Maybe it’s simply too much to know what’s happening
In every dark corner of Earth, each terrible, grim thing

Perhaps the wide-spread stress, anxiety and angst we feel
Is caused by what’s trending and in our newsfeed and newsreel
Perhaps it’s time to step back and be present where we are
Focus on the loved ones near, not strangers who are far

Perhaps it’s time to be aware of local matters more
That we can influence instead of some overseas war
Perhaps it’s time to turn the news off, edit feed, log out
Turn phone off and have local faith instead of global doubt

The Shunning

16 Jun
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for change.
Every single time there’s been a shooting, the shooter’s name and face has been plastered all over the media. In their own twisted way, the killers have achieved fame and notoriety. They didn’t have to work for it and earn it over a long period of time like the true Warriors throughout history. They simply pulled a trigger and now everyone world wide knows about them, and they’ll be remembered for years to come. It doesn’t matter to them whether it’s being remembered in infamy; the important thing to them is that they’re remembered. They died (or are locked up in jail) with the exhilaration of knowing that they’re singled out from all of the other faceless, forgotten people…some of whom being their victims.
Perhaps the next time someone decides to shoot innocent, unsuspecting people, the media should withhold that shooter’s name and pictures. Perhaps the media shouldn’t interview their friends, ex-partners or parents in a mock-attempt at “understanding the horror.” Perhaps they should be *shunned* with darkness and silence for their cowardly act instead of having a spotlight put on them.
The definition of “shun” is to persistently avoid, ignore, or reject through antipathy or caution. Isn’t this exactly what a murderer of innocents deserves? And yet the media constantly displays the name and image of the shooter, immortalizing them. I call it grossly irresponsible and immoral, and it speaks volumes about the people who operate the media and their true motives.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for change. Years ago I decided to try something different; I shunned the media when I saw that they had no intention of shunning cowardly murderers. I’m much happier for it, understand the atrocities that occur better, and rest assured knowing that my memory banks are reserved for heroes and Warriors, not cowards and psychopaths.
Shun on,

I turned my news off long ago when it was clear to me
That every venue in the news reported “balance free”
They focused more on fear and dread and less on things with hope
Their business is in dealing their despair inducing dope
I know this for a fact because I put them to the test
Recently when I embarked an altruistic quest
I set out to raise funds and hope for cancer patients who
Are battling a bigger fear than news could ever brew
Some local papers said to me “We’ll think about it some”
Guess they needed time to try to spin it as more glum
And others, no response at all. Not interested in hope
More concerned with spreading fear than helping patients cope
Same goes for the TV stations, all except for one
Not enamoured with the tale since there’s no smoking gun
Point proven both to myself and hopefully to you
About the kind of message that the newsman likes to spew
You won’t find hope or strength or faith when you go turn that dial

Never Shocked

16 Dec

Don’t be fooled by others who lead you to believe you should be saddened, shocked and somber for days after each tragedy occurs. It is my heartfelt belief that a true Warrior is never shocked over anything. Therefore, a Warrior’s mood cannot be controlled by anything within the ordinary or out of the ordinary, even the most senseless tragedy. Peace & happiness is a choice, always. It’s an easy one to make when the sun in shining and everything is going your way. It’s tougher to make that choice when the news and everyone around you is wailing about how terrible something is. Tougher, but still completely within your ability to make that choice. Don’t be afraid that others will judge you as being heartless or lacking compassion. Those that would judge you in such a way are victims themselves, always at the mercy of outside factors for how they’ll feel that day. The Warrior doesn’t leave how he or she will feel RIGHT NOW up to anyone but themselves. The Warrior has seen the poor job that others do and would not in their right mind allow them to have control over their own lives.

This Warrior chooses joy, not sorrow. Today, tomorrow, and every day for the foreseeable future.
Peace,
~Miro
