When To Let It Slide

28 Sep

When To Let It Slide

Yes, I often say “Speak up!” and beat upon your chest
Point a finger and make sure selfishness is addressed
But sometimes there is just no point, it is a waste of breath
Some people are just too entrenched and set in ways ‘till death
The question many ask is how they’ll know which one is which
Speaking for myself, it’s when I feel a little itch
I see a little glimmer or I hear a little spark
Something in the person tells me their heart’s not all dark
In contrast, there are people who are rotten through and through
Give them one hundred chances and they’ll disappoint you
They’re too wrapped in seeking ease, comfort, luxury, rest
They are not worth the time or effort that you could invest
In other people who have hope, potential, hidden grace
It will be obvious to you who doesn’t have a trace
I’ve found the ones who are without a hope to be as rare
As Warriors and that’s the only way that they compare
Let it slide and save your strength for battles with a cause
Hopeless people have no wish to improve on their flaws

The Struggle

26 May
“We struggle with the complexities and avoid the simplicities.” ~Norman Vincent Peale
struggleThe Struggle

“I struggle” countless do confess
“With things that I should do
I struggle with forgiveness
Understanding, with what’s true”They furrow brows and rub their temples
As they struggle on
They think it’s all a competition
To be won with brawn

They think that if they struggle long
Enough, that they will “win”
That “victory” will absolve them
From anger, stress and sin

And each of them is just a fool
For none of them do see
That nothing valuable is gained
From selfish victory

“Winning” arguments means that
Another person loses
Struggle does not enlighten
Because struggle abuses

How could anyone believe
That inflicting a loss
On someone, even if it’s “self”
Would allow them to cross

A challenge or difficulty
You struggle? You’re a fool!
You’re not a beast of burden
So stop acting like a mule

LET IT GO is how we all
Make peace with things that hurt
With people who are selfish, who
Offend, betray and blurt

LET IT GO, the angst, the pain
The disappointment, stress
You can’t let go? You struggle?
Then it’s time that you confess

That struggling is to hold on
To cling, to claw, to clutch
And that’s an act of selfishness
“IT’S MINE! YOU CANNOT TOUCH!”

Pull your head out of your ass
And accept what is true
Nothing on this Earth is ‘yours’
Nothing belongs to you

Not your house, your job, your kids
Not clothing or your car
Not your pain, your depression
Not bruises or your scar

The struggle lives in selfish minds
That horde and just want more
So let go of your struggle
It’s not what you are here for

The King of Letting Go

20 Apr

“Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there.”  ~Clarence W. Hall

The King of Letting Go

I am a humble servant of
The King of Letting Go
Every day I try to let
My Monarch’s teachings flow

This King did not possess riches
His life was about loss
My King did not sit on a throne
Instead He had a cross

He wore no fancy crown of gold
Adorned with studded jewels
Instead there was a crown of thorns
Placed on His head by fools

He walked away from His home town
From those who had raised Him
To cast His light in places that
Had grown shady and dim

He let go of the things He had
The things He did possess
He knew the key to happiness
Was knowing you need less

And when the only thing left was
His life, they took that too
He let it go as He explained
“They know not what they do”

I wonder why it’s so hard for
People to let it go
Everyday annoyances
That make our anger grow

But one thing we can’t seem to grasp
And hold on tightly to
Is the lesson this King taught
We just cannot construe

The thought that peace is in our grasp
If we let go, move on
Accept the things we cannot change
Accept what’s gone is gone

I am a humble servant of
The King of Letting Go
I will not be dragged down because
I will no longer tow

I will sever the lines that hold me
To anchoring weight
I will let go of my ego
My selfishness, my hate

Because my King has done the same
And asks no less of me
He’s taught us only when we let
It go can we be free

The Tale of the Bloodless Stone

8 Jun

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

The Tale of the Bloodless Stone

There once was a pair of cold stones
That butted each other all day
Sparks always flew
As they both turned the screw
And had nothing too pleasant to say

One day both stones chose to depart
Their last words were not very nice
Many years passed
And neither stone asked
For peace because of the high price

But something strange started to happen
To one of the stones over years
Instead of departing
When trouble was starting
This stone stood its ground and faced fears

And slowly but surely this stone
Through the magic of courage and grace
Transformed to a man
And in his veins began
Pumping warm blood to his face

And to his arms, legs and whole body
It trickled with the slightest nick
“That’s a hell of a thing!”
They heard this man sing
As he cleaned it away with a lick

Where once he was cold and rock solid
So rigid and uncaring too
Now he was warm
Different from the norm
An amazing change he had gone through

He wondered if his old stone friend
Had maybe gone through the same change
But when they did meet
Old friend was concrete
And it thought that the man was quite strange

The man tried to show how with little
Effort he could make blood trickle
When he beckoned the stone
He received just a groan
The stone, you see, was very fickle

It was still quite rigid and cold
Because warm blood did not flow through
Its veins deep inside
Within was just pride
And soon he knew this to be true:

Just because you do transform
Into something more than a rock
That doesn’t mean all
Have heard the same call
And have figured out how to unlock

The way to get blood from a stone
Through patience, forgiveness and love
Some stones are content
To just sit there and vent
To complain, feel abused and just shove

Screw Ups

8 Jul

Screw Ups

We’re told that should stand by those
Who are having it rough
But there’s a point where even Warriors
Say “That’s enough”

We show support and have hope much
Longer than most would last
But there’s a point where patience should
Be a thing of the past

And that’s with Screw Ups, people who
Aren’t trying very hard
People with ingratitude
Who simply disregard

The caring and concern that their
Friends and family show
Once again, the Warrior
Says what causes most woe

“What you’re doing hasn’t,
Doesn’t, and won’t work for me
I’m letting go ‘cause you’re a Screw Up
Of highest degree”

The Warrior lets go and stops
Letting Screw Ups frustrate
They don’t hold animosity
Or any kind of hate

They simply give up hope which is
An act most cannot do
We want to think that everyone
Could improve and come through

The Warrior’s a realist
And knows a truth that’s bleak:
Some people are permanently
Selfish, scared and weak

The Warrior has the courage
To let the Screw Ups go
They must fend for themselves if they
Do stand a chance to grow

And Warriors are weary when
A Screw Up says they’ve changed
They know that transformation won’t come
From being estranged

It comes from striving, pondering
From giving, sacrifice
It comes from letting go of self
Which is a heavy price

That most Screw Ups just cannot pay
Because “self” is their life
They place their own happiness before
That of a husband, wife

A son, a daughter or parent
A stranger or a friend
Quit on Screw Ups and your time
On better causes spend

Move On

23 Oct

Move On

For warriors the words “I quit”
Are never, ever spoken
But there’s another phrase we should
Utter when wills are broken

Not our own, the will of a
Warrior can’t be cracked
I’m speaking of the ones we try
To inspire and impact

Rest assured, my warriors
There will be those who can’t
Reap any of your wisdom
‘Cause their ego won’t grant

Any idea that did not
Originate with them
Words can’t reach their hearts unless
They came from their brain stem

I’ve watched in awe as people have
Argued against the fact
That we all have the power to
Triumph over what’s lacked

That focus, training, concentration
Effort and resolve
Is the only way to grow
To adapt and evolve

“Yeah, but” is the way they start
And that’s enough for me
To wash my hands and realize
They’re not a good trainee

They want a comfortable life and
Don’t want to have to sweat
They want all of the world’s joys but
Don’t want to pay the debt

They beg the Creator to take it
Easy on them, please
Warriors instead live by
The wise words of Bruce Lee’s:

“Do not pray for easy lives”
The Dragon once did say
“Pray for the strength to endure
Difficult ones today.”

If you’re a warrior and you
Stand before someone who
Doesn’t have the will to hear
Your words and follow through

Do not fear that you’re quitting
You’re not, you’re moving on
Your strength is needed other places
Where it will help spawn

Courage and resolve within
The people who are able
To want to try to grow in peace
And make their stresses stable

Move on ‘cause you’re wasting precious
Time as well as air
Move on to other people who
Are passionate and care

Let go of egotistical
Self-centered people that
Are too set in their ways to ever
Be moved by your chat

Move on with confidence in knowing
That you tried your best
Head up, chest out and take comfort
In knowing you addressed

A simple-minded person who
Can’t find the time to try
Who’d rather bitch and whine and sob
And fret and stress and cry

And wait for someone else to come
And fix all their issues
Warriors are well aware
You’ll need more than tissues

You’ll need to see that what you need
Is not the help of God
It’s not a friend or two or three
Or an entire squad

What you need is already
Within you, but it’s hard
So for the ones who don’t like it
The warriors discard

They leave behind the ones who drag
Without any remorse
And if a seed’s been planted, then
We’ll see you down the course
