“Fag’s” a word that’s used by those
Held in check by their fear
They see someone who’s not like them
And so they howl “Queer!”

They’re so wrapped up in their own ways
That anyone who’s not
Into the same things as them
Should be tied up and shot

They act so brave with hateful words
And all their posturing
But warriors see cowardice
With every taunt they sling

They use these words not just for gays
But for the ones in tune
With their “artsy” side, the sculptors,
Writers, those who croon

The ones who notice beauty in
The little works of art
The men who aren’t afraid to cry
When something hits the heart

“You’re such a fag” just says to me
“I am a coward, sir
I am threatened by their courage
So I must hurl a slur

So that my insecure ego
Feels better about me
I’m still a knuckle-dragging ape
Who is not as gutsy

As all the men and women who
I hurl my insults at
Maybe one day I will choose
Respect over combat

Respect for having courage to
Love anyone they want
Even if it means that I
Will make fun, hate and taunt

Respect for those who do not live
To please all those in fear
Respect for warriors who are
Called ‘fag’, ‘homo’, and ‘queer’”

So What If I Am?

14 Nov

So What If I Am?

Sometimes when you show passion
About some kind of cause
It isn’t exactly met with
A big round of applause

Sometimes people will make fun
And say such classics like
“What are you, some kind of…” and
Insert their chosen strike

If you speak of the ego
And other deep content
And get accused of being a
Psychology student

If you watch your diet and
For health are a campaigner
And get accused of being some
Kind of personal trainer

If you praise the Lord above
And give glory to Him
And someone calls you a preacher
As if it’s something grim

If you are a creator
Of music, stories, art
And someone calls you an “artiste”
As if you’re much more smart

Don’t you dare allow them to
Make it seem like it’s bad
Head up, chest out and bellow
This line as if you’re glad:

“So what if I am?” you say to them
“So what if I do care?
So what if I show passion and
So what if you compare

My interests to people who have
Dedicated much time
And effort for the same passions?
So what? Is that a crime?”

Keep in mind that “What are you?”
When asked in a snide tone
Usually comes from someone
Who has not found their own

Passion or purpose in life
And feels inadequate
The irony of what they say
Is that they can’t commit

To any of the jobs that they
Accuse you of being
So nod your head and do not be
Afraid of agreeing

“What’s so bad about the job
That you’ve just listed off?
Is dedication and hard work
Something at which you scoff?

If it is, I’ve heard enough
That’s all I need to know
You just don’t see what it takes to
Evolve, advance and grow”

Let them try to make their fun
By listing off those trades
Because the people that do them
Possess passion in spades

No Offense

9 Nov

No Offense

Offense is taken by people
Who are too sensitive
By those who think too highly of
Themselves and can’t forgive

What’s the big deal if someone
Lays an insult on you?
To take offense means that you take
Too much stock in their view

Why would any words upset
Offend, annoy or slight
A person who knows deep down what
Is wrong and what is right?

Offense shows that we care too much
About what’s being said
By people who do not deserve
A single, tiny shred

Of reverence or respect so
How could they cause offense?
Getting all worked up just makes
Us seem just that more dense

It also shows that we demand
A bit too much respect
In a world where there is little
Of it to collect

Offense shows a lack of control
Allowing others to
Influence our demeanor
When others make us stew

Nothing offends warriors
Because they let it go
They let the offensive things said
Continue to just flow

Through them, out them, onward to
The rest of the world’s noise
Never once allowing it
To sacrifice their poise

Next time that you take offense
Just ask yourself “How come?”
And with a little thought you’ll see
It really is quite dumb

To get worked up, to get upset
To let yourself get stressed
To let another person keep
You from being your best
