Same Old Same Old

1 Dec

Yawn

Same Old Same Old

“Lately” I hear people say
“There aren’t many who go
The extra mile, try harder
Who want to learn and grow”

It’s the word “lately” that makes me
Laugh a Warrior’s laugh
There’s nothing recent about the
Urge to only give “half”

It’s not just in the past ten years
That people have tried less
It has been thousands of years that
They’ve chosen to regress

For those who’ve only recently
Noticed the downward spiral
Welcome to being awake
To selfishness gone viral

There are those who are new to this
And they will act so shocked
“I can’t believe! I can’t believe!”
They’ve talked and talked and talked

But Warriors know very well
On which world they do dwell
They aren’t surprised when ugliness
Sprouts from this same old hell

They aren’t surprised, they don’t act shocked
They aren’t appalled or mad
They don’t treat laziness or selfishness
As a new fad

It is as old as the hills, mountains
Rivers, lakes and seas
The selfish quest for comfort, luxury
Enjoyment, ease

The Warrior accepts what is
The same old same old same
And they do not cry out in anger
Or try to lay blame

What it is is what it is
And all that one can do
Is disagree with how things are
And not let it change you

Not let other’s laziness
Stop you from choosing to
Walk an extra mile when
Another beckons you

Not let other’s fear distract
From what needs to be done
Not let other’s threats dissuade
And make you turn and run

Same old selfish, thoughtless world
With many who are dense
Who are oblivious, ungrateful
And take great offense

Nothing new about it, folks
It’s been that way forever
And since the dawn of time, there’s been
Warriors who would never

Let such fearful, selfish, shabby
People influence
Their attitude, their emotions
Their mood or common sense

Clean Christians

3 Oct

Here’s a poem about self-righteous and pious “Christians” who make too big stink over swearing, nudity and other “lewdness” and let these inconsequential things blind them from the big picture. I do believe they’ve lost the fuckin’ plot. 😉

Clean Christians

“Please no swearing! No lewdness and please no nudity!”
These taboo topics make so many stuck-up Christians flee
They do refuse to watch movies and TV shows which feature
Any of these “dirty things” because of what their preacher

Told them on a Sunday morn, “These things will lead to Hell!”
“Jesus Christ” is what I think and what I also tell
All these stuck-up “Christians” who see filth and run away
“Jesus Christ, you know the guy to whom you all do pray?

Yes, Jesus Christ, the man who did surround Himself with those
Who did not have the cleanest language or the nicest clothes
His posse was composed of not the cleanest men around
And all those pious, “Holy” places? Christ could not be found

He walked headlong into the places that were not pristine
You think He only spoke to those who kept their language clean?
You think He did refuse to speak to girls who bared their breasts?
I have a feeling that He did not just limit His quests

To places that were prim and proper, “Holy” and reserved”
And that is why these hypocrite “Christians” make us unnerved
They claim to follow in the steps of someone who stood fast
While their King did illuminate, they run away aghast

While their King made an effort to show grace, love, understanding
“Clean Christians” do get appalled and walk away, remanding
With all due respect to them, to HELL with what they think
Fuck their lack of empathy and Kool-Aid that they drink

Fuck their lack of heart and soul that should be showed in each
And every single action that they practice and they preach
Fuck their search for perfection, my Savior has taught me
There’s no such thing, but if you take a closer look, you’ll see

Beauty in the ones who swear, selflessness in those nude
Grace possessed by those unkempt and courage in the lewd
To all the “Christians” who have been mislead to think they follow
A perfect, pious Savior, here’s a filthy pill to swallow

                                                                God bless 😉

Warrior Whip

16 Sep

The Whip makes successful return to the ring – Guelph Mercury article

“With hope it’s possible.” ~Fitz “The Whip” Vanderpool

Warrior Whip

They told him that he couldn’t do it, “Sorry you’re too old”
Little did they realize this Warrior was bold
The naysayers and doubters scoffed and said it was too late
But he silenced them all and showed no one controls your fate

Nobody can tell you what you aren’t capable of
Nobody can convince you that you can’t rise above
Unless you let them take away your focus and your hope
The Champ trudged on and proved he is still Royalty of Rope

He fought a man that’s fifteen years younger and took it all
Through flurries, jabs and uppercuts the Whip not once did fall
With heart, intensity and focus and experience
The Whip proved every single one of his doubters were dense

He proved to anyone who’s gotten used to wanting less
He proved to everyone who’d rather not deal with the stress
He proved to each and every person who thinks that you can’t
That anything is possible if your feet you just plant

Take a stand and disagree with what they have to say
Refuse to be silenced, swept under rug and go away
This Warrior’s an inspiration that if you believe
In yourself and abilities, your goals you will achieve

                                                                             Congratulations, Champ!

Chill Pill

9 Jun

Chill Pill

The dopey eyed and lazy sloth
Says “Take a chill pill, pal!”
He sees the Warrior’s passion
And wants to kill morale

“Chill pill?” the Warrior does ask
“To mellow out? Not care?”
The Warrior does ask the sloth
With his intense, cold stare

“Yeah man,” the sloth does respond
“Just chill, it doesn’t matter”
The Warrior holds his hand up
He’s heard enough sloth chatter

“Doesn’t matter?” Warrior grins
“That is where you are wrong
NEVER DOES IT NOT MATTER!”
He says loud, stern and strong

“What you are’s a cancer on
All people of the world”
The Warrior accuses as
Admonishment is hurled

“Your apathy does suck the life
Of all those passionate
You try to turn them into people
Who don’t give a shit”

The Warrior steps forward and
Now he stands nose to nose
The sloth’s heart starts to race, the Warrior’s
Heart only slows

He takes a slow, deep breath and says
With calm, unnerved boldness:
“Take your chill pill, choke on it
You apathetic mess”

NEVER let someone tell you
That you need to chill out
If it concerns anything that
You’re passionate about

Tell them to just choke on it
I swear they won’t be missed
One less sloth’s lack of passion
To make Warriors pissed

Mothers

12 May

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”  ~Elizabeth Stone

Mothers

There was a woman who decided
To give up her hold
On her own heart for something more
Precious to her than gold

It was more precious than diamonds
Or any other jewel
It was for diapers, crying and
Puréed carrots and drool

It was for sickness, broken hearts
Drama, uncertainty
It was to be a mother which she
Was so proud to be

The child knows not how they’ve carried
Their mother’s heart from birth
And carry it along with them
No matter where on Earth

They travel to, no matter how far
Life takes them away
How nice for Mothers that their hearts
Come back on Mother’s Day

Heart Failure

1 Feb

“What we have most to fear is failure of the heart.” ~Sonia Johnson

Heart Failure

My father has been diagnosed
With failure of the heart
He hasn’t got a lot of time
Until he does depart

I’ve heard from many different nurses
And doctors who say
Different things, some feel as though
They can keep death at bay

Others aren’t as hopeful, they
Have grim looks on their faces
They say with how weak his heart is
He’s one of the worse cases

They can’t believe how large it’s grown
And how much he could push
Such a weakened heart so long
By staying off his tush

But that’s because my dad is a
Warrior like his son
While others have shown fear and sadness
My dad has shown none

He’s been all smiles and thankful to
The nursing staff that takes
Such good care of him while he is
Laid up with his aches

And while the others cry and mourn
I’ve noticed I have not
Because of grace and strength the way
Of the warrior has brought

When test results are not as good
As you’d hope them to be
You can’t just wish your strength to grow
To a higher degree

As Archilochus said, you will
Fall to your training’s level
This is why the test results
Did not shock and dishevel

While I do not know what’s in store
For my dad and his heart
This hasn’t been a wake up call
For me to finally start

Showing him my respect and
Appreciation for
Everything’s he’s done for me
I never did ignore

And so while I am sad to think
His time is running out
My training is what’s kept me strong
And focused, graceful, stout

Him as well, and hopefully
The readers of this piece
You have the choice to have a strength
That will not ever cease

In the face of tragedy
Adversity and pain
Even heart failure cannot
Make a warrior wain

The Right Place

3 Oct

The Right Place

“I just can’t seem to find someone
Who’s the right one for me”
Is what many single folks do
Solemnly decree

They talk about relationships
That ended up a waste
Never realizing it’s
Because they were not chased

Going to the bar does not
Count as making an effort
It’s just a place where people go
To drown sorrows and flirt

Superficial interactions
Lacking depth and soul
You’ll hardly ever meet someone
At one who’ll make you whole

“So if a bar’s not the right place
To find some soul and heart
Maybe a church is the best
Location to then start!”

If you think this to yourself
Be sure that you think twice
Just because someone believes
Does not mean they are nice

It’s been my experience
That churches, much like bars
Are just a place where people go
To try to forget scars

Despite their claims of following
Their Lord and Savior, Christ
I’ve met so many Christians
Whose temperaments were iced

They did not glow or radiate
With love and selflessness
They did not engage or welcome
Or any warmth express

“How ‘bout work? There’s a cute girl
Or guy I work beside
Surely they would make a perfect
Groom for me or bride”

Work’s another place that doesn’t
Usually pan out
Just one simple reason why
It’s not the ideal route:

Money is why so many
Couples who worked together
Were not able to endure
The harsh and nasty weather

Places where you make your dough
Are filled with people who
Are less concerned about others
Than making funds accrue

Same reason why many don’t
Have true friends at their trade
Most would throw you under bus
If it meant getting paid

“So not at bars or at a church
Or where you earn your pay
There’s got to be a place where folks
Can meet someone today!

How ‘bout school? There’s a guy or
Girl I’ve had my eye on”
Sorry, school’s the same as work
Your classmate will not fawn

Because, like work, they’re too busy
Accumulating grades
You’ll find about as much depth as
A quick game of charades

“So where’s a girl or guy supposed to
Find their one true love?”
I’ll tell you this, it likely won’t
Be one of the above

It probably won’t be wherever
You usually go
But something wonderful might happen
If you choose to grow

And venture out to new places
You haven’t ever been
Seeking something with more depth
Than just a lust for skin

I can only reassure
By telling you I’ve tried
All of the methods mentioned
And never found a bride

Until I left my comfort zone
And ventured somewhere new
That’s the only right place where
I found love that was true

Think about it, you won’t get
Your inspiration from
Negative and lazy people
Who are sour and glum

You won’t find hope among the folks
With whom you make your cash
Because the main thing on their minds
Is adding to their stash

And love is nowhere to be found
At places that serve booze
Bars are just places where folks
Go to drown all their blues

I cannot tell you exactly
Where “right place” may be
But it’s not part of your daily
Route, I’ll guarantee

If it’s love you’re looking for
The true and profound kind
The only way to find it is
If your legs are inclined

To move you out from your old path
And search new places where
Someone’s not just thinking of
Their own selfish affair

Their own pay or their drink or their
Own pass to pearly gates
Or their straight A’s, all of these things
Will lead to dead-end dates

Make an effort, seek and find
Get up and search for it
The right place is likely the  one
You currently omit

Ultimate Inspiration

Ultimate Inspiration

Every child growing up
Has heroes they admire
Some wear capes and fly and some
Turn green when times are dire

In the 80’s there were many
Heroes in the ring
Pro-wrestling housed so many
Characters who did bring

A sense of honor and justice
To little kids each week
Hulk Hogan and Macho Man
At war with Iron Sheik

But one hero stood out to me
And many thousands more
This tasseled, painted combatant
Came well prepared for war

He used intensity to capture
Everyone’s attention
His passion was quite evident
And fueled his fast ascension

Even though I couldn’t fully
Grasp at that young age
The concept of a “Warrior”
His vigor did engage

His way of doing everything
With every ounce of heart
With every fiber of his being
Set him far apart

From other workers who did not
See it more than a way
To make some dough ‘cause their passion
Was second to their pay

Then one day this Warrior
Dropped off the face of Earth
At least that’s what his boss said as
He spoke of this man’s worth

His peers chimed in as well and they
All talked about how bad
His attitude was and how he
Was just a passing fad

Overweight drug addicts talked
About how self destructive
This self-made Warrior was and
That he was not productive

How he couldn’t get along
And how he walked alone
That the only concerns that
He had were just his OWN

Men who smoked and drank and drugged
Their way through their whole lives
Neglecting their children at home
And cheating on their wives

Talking trash about a man
Strike that, a Warrior
Who put their discipline and heart
To shame and would prefer

To walk away from fame and fortune
If it meant he kept
His OWN integrity intact
And gladly did accept

Something he said years ago
When he first walked away
Twenty years ago does still
Resonate to this day

He said sometimes you have to turn
Your back on those you thought
Were friends and make sure that their words
Do not leave you distraught

That you should not care how they judge
Your actions or your worth
That your true greatness has been with you
Since your day of birth

“Time will tell” they say and now
Time has told us the tale
The Warrior’s still clean and strong
While naysayers are frail

Men who talked so poorly now
Are feeling the effects
Of living with no discipline
And now Karma collects

While “self-destructive” Warrior
Continues to inspire
With writings, artwork, videos
That light creative fire

Underneath a legion of
Warriors who now see
That it’s their OWN intensity
And passion that is key

To unlocking the greatness that
They all possess within
Sometimes one road’s end is the
Ideal place to begin
