Hell

Hell

Hell is not as far away as many do believe
It is not a far away realm where people burn and seethe
It’s not another dimension that’s opened after death
Hell does not appear for bad people at their last breath
Hell is here and now for those who do not have control
Hell exists around the people who refuse to roll
With all the punches that life throws, Hell is the here and now
Hell is fists clenched in anger, Hell is a furrowed brow
Hell is hateful words spit out that later do torment
Hell is the current home for those who feel need to vent
A self created Hell thanks to a lack of discipline
That has nothing to do with Satan, God, Jesus or sin
Hell is the excuse “I’m only human!” Being weak
Thinking that your mortal shell is pathetic and meek
That is why the Warrior lives in a different realm
The Warrior is in control and mighty at the helm
The Warrior says, “No,” “Relent,” “That doesn’t work for me”
While so many are caged in Hell, the Warrior is free
Because they know the danger lies much closer than most think
They realize they could step into Hell within a blink
But they refuse to lose control, to let another shake
Their iron will and fortitude, their resolve will not break
And none of it is automatic, all of it’s a choice
Warriors decide they won’t dwell in Hell with their voice
They speak up, disagree and won’t fall in with all the sheep
They stand apart, alone, courageous, wise, intense and deep
And walk among a thousand Hells created by the others
Hell of parents, Hell of friends, Hell of sisters and brothers
Hell of strangers on the street, Hell everywhere they go
And none of any of these Hell’s residents seem to know
That they opened the gates of Hell with their very own key:
Ego, selfishness, anger, fear, doubt and apathy

They Will Hate You

27 Sep

They Will Hate You

I make no promises other than this one
To everyone who follows the warrior’s long run:
They will hate you
If you choose to be honest and stand up for what’s right
You will draw all their anger, their selfishness and spite
They will hate you
If you won’t sacrifice your own integrity
Just to make them happy, this I will guarantee:
They will hate you
If you won’t fire back with anger, loathing, hate
If you will not reflect the scorn that they create
They will hate you
If you make them all feel inferior because
You refuse to act the way a hater does
They will hate you
If you show grace, control and aren’t as sensitive
As the one that hates and unlike them, forgive
They will hate you
But when you have withdrawn your light from their dark cave
And left them all alone to their malice, a slave
To only be surrounded by others just as dark
And wallowing in grief without even a spark
When posturing and ego no longer come in play
And they are all alone this truth will haunt their day:

They will miss you

Self Righteous

Self Righteous

The old fool clutches his bible
And claims it’s filled with truth
He shouts into his megaphone
His behaviour: uncouth

He’s blind to all the history
And present that surrounds
His mind is closed and limited
And just knows paper’s bounds

His whole identity is based
On what a bible writes
And anything that deviates
Will always lead to fights

How sad and tragic to waste life
Shackled to just one book
To never have the courage to
Explore, question and look

How sad to accept every word
As being “Straight from God!”
And never wondering if man
Who’s egoic and flawed

Could possibly have let seep in
Some selfishness and greed
Some lack of understanding, lack
Of empathy, some greed

How sad to take their word for it
To trust “Powers that Be”
Who manipulate the masses with
Heaven’s sweet guarantee

The old fool thinks because he’s read
The book his parents gave
And shut out everything else that
He’s caring, wise and brave

But all I see’s a coward who
Just went along with hate
Who never dared to understand
Instead became irate

Who pointed fingers and who claimed
To know what’s “right for all”
And when a Warrior did disagree
They’d bitch and bawl

When a Warrior would state
That not all’s as it seems
This self righteous old fool angers
Interrupts, snaps and screams

“Damn you to hell!” these pious types
Cast judgement upon those
Who choose not think black or white
And won’t let their minds close

Yes hell, that scary, made-up place
Where all who disagree
Will burn in pain and suffering
For all eternity

Many of my poetry
Is written for my kin:
Warriors who know the point
Of life is not to “win”

Nor is it to be “proven right”
And bask in victory
Understanding is my cause
Connection, empathy

And so here is my understanding
Of self-righteous fools:
Do not waste your time on them
And their close-minded rules

They’re just old children who did not
Grow up because they chose
To limit themselves to one book
And its primitive prose

Instead of using life as chance
To experience first hand
To feel, to see, to touch, to smell
To relate, understand

Be wary of these old fools who
Clutch bibles to their chest
They’re frightened little children who are
Far from being blessed

More often than not, the grace
And light of God does not
Radiate within them, they are
Filled with angst and fraught

While Warriors have shed all books
And trinkets ‘cause they know
Experience first-hand is what
Casts off wisdom’s true glow

Shame on You

24 May

“Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame.” ~Benjamin Franklin

shame
Shame On You

I see your pouty face and hear
The anger in your voice
And my only response is:
“Shame on you, that’s the wrong choice”

You whine and cry about how there’s
No choice, that you are forced
To have a boo-boo face because
Your wants were not endorsed

You think because you did not get
The thing that you desired
That you are justified, that your
Anger is now required

You think that when things do not go
Your way, you have the right
To unleash your hostility
To kick and scream and fight

Shame on you because you battle
Everything except
The only thing that is the cause
The one thing that has kept

Yourself from being patient, graceful
Having empathy
You fight the innocents but not
The real culprit of “ME”

Angry that you did not win?
The fault lays just on you
Upset it didn’t go as planned?
You’re selfish, yes that’s true

You want so much for yourself that
You have lost your perspective
You think that you are important
Not part of the collective

You dwell within your selfish thoughts
Instead of walking miles
Within the shoes of others to
Understand their own trials

They couldn’t get the job done right
So now you throw a fit?
Don’t expect this warrior
To give a single shit

Don’t expect a warrior
To tip-toe on eggshells
Instead I’ll raise my voice louder
And hammer upon bells

And tell you that you’re a shameful
Self-centred, spoiled brat
That you expose your true self with
These fits; a coward rat

You have no grace to deal with it
Because your heart just cares
About yourself and doesn’t think
About other’s affairs

No, I won’t apologize
Or say, ‘There, there, tap, tap”
My only consultation is to
Shut your selfish trap

Your mommy and daddy did you
Disservice by allowing
These kid-like temper tantrums with their
Sympathy and bowing

So now the rest must deal with a
Full grown infant who pouts
And bickers and complains and frets
And bellyaches and shouts

Shame on you for lack of strength
For lack of self control
Shame on you for being such
A small-minded, weak soul

Into War

16 Jul

facetoface

Into War

To war you must sometimes decide
To head into, to walk, to ride

To face the selfish ignorants
To aid the weak, be their defense

Against all those who take and take
The cowardly who aren’t awake

The ones who do lack empathy
Who just one point of view do see

In war we must engage these boors
Cowards run, but one endures

The Warrior stands face to face
And only does exhibit grace

No anger or hostility
Just searing, painful, third-degree

Of truth is hurled at all who hurt
For their own gain, let us assert

Let Warriors step up and walk
And stare in eyes of those who talk

And talk and talk but do so little
Let us show them just how brittle

Their selfish egos really are
As we draw blade of truth and scar

With words like “Coward,” “Selfish,” “Weak”
“Self-centered,” “Self-absorbed” and “Bleak”

No insults hurled, just what’s observed
And truth will make ego unnerved

Do not fear the war on hate
It is every Warrior’s fate

To walk into the fire though
All others run away in woe

Towards the things which irritate
Which scare and cause to be irate

To stare into its pupils and
Refuse to budge, to make a stand

To say, “You move” to bullies who
Wish you as well would say “Adeiu”

If more would go into this war
And not think of it as a chore

If more would face the ugliness
Instead of saying, “Too much stress!”

Then those who bully and torment
And tease would finally relent

Because they’d know there was a price
And every bully would think twice

They’d think, “Perhaps I’ll hold my tongue”
For fear a Warrior’s among

The timid masses and would go
Into war, stand toe to toe

And give them not a single inch
Not be afraid and never flinch

Stare into their hate filled eyes
And say, “I can see through your guise

I can see past this mask you’ve made
And it does not make me afraid

You don’t have an effect on me
So lean in, come look close and see

That I was born to face, confront
To step in path and take the brunt

And still survive to just repeat
To go to war while rest retreat”

And into war we’ll always walk
With those who disrespect and mock

It’s into war where we reveal
Our iron will and grace of steel

To Mock A King

11 Feb

jesus

To Mock A King

Anyone can mock a man
And yes, most people do
Even without realizing
With their flippant spew

Anyone can mock a leader
Someone who tries hard
But often fails because they are
By their followers marred

Anyone can mock a God
Since most just can’t conceive
A being that’s far greater than
They are, they can’t believe

But there is a rare breed that can
Willingly mock a King
As a servant of one, I can’t
Think a sadder thing

My own King is one who receives
A lot of foolish mocking
I hear His name said as a swear
While I hear people talking

I hear the ignorant make fun
Without giving a thought
Of what this King did sacrifice
And lessons that He taught

They laugh and think this long-haired
Bearded King is so inane
They do not stop to think about
The suffering and pain

They show no thought of the message
Of love that He did guide
They disregard the grace He kept
Moments before He died

It takes a very unique person
To mock this great King
To make dumb jokes, to throw insults
To laugh and insults fling

It takes one that’s oblivious
To sacrificing all
To give everything of yourself to
Answer a higher call

It takes someone who does not see
Does not appreciate
A person who’s mission in life
Was to reduce the hate

Keep this fact in mind next time
You hear these people mock
Don’t just stand by silently
Don’t turn around and walk

Say things as you see them and
Remind them, tell them of
The life and mission of that King
His purpose: spreading love

Tell them that to mock a King
Takes very little class
Tell them when one mocks a King
It’s mocker who’s the ass

Tell them that they mock because
They feel they have low worth
Tell them that we must have something
Sacred on this Earth

To mock another is a sign
Of weakness and of fear
It’s one thing to mock family
A friend or mock a peer

But when one mocks a King I say
There is no greater shame
A revelation that they won’t
Give anyone acclaim

The Shackler

30 Sep

If you’ve put in the time, patience and effort to change something about yourself, never let someone who hasn’t been around to witness that change define you by something you’ve said or done in the past. There are people who will try to shackle you by your past actions and cause you self-doubt. What they don’t realize is those shackles are brittle and shatter with one simple question: “That was then, who am I now?” You’ll usually get a few blinks and a perplexed look that says, “I don’t know…I haven’t been paying attention lately because I’m too focused on the past.” Eliminate these short-sighted, ignorant and un-empathetic “Shacklers” from your life.

The Shackler

There was a man named Now who once did something in the past
That made a man named Cling so angry that his rage did last
Over several years and when the two met up once more
Cling reminded Now of all that he had done before

He was oblivious to how much he himself had changed
Over all the years since both of them had been estranged
Cling was not the same person but he did fail to see
That years could change someone else too, this Cling did not foresee

He met Now with an old frustration and he did remind
Of what Now had done in the past, how he had been unkind
He tried to shackle Now with actions that were now years old
He tried to define Now by those actions that were so cold

But unlike most who bow their heads in shame and say they’re sorry
Now refused to play along and succumb to Cling’s quarry
“That was then” Now did reply, “and I flat-out refuse
To be defined by  outdated opinions, thoughts and views”

Now told Cling that if he chose to live in times gone by
That they were done speaking and Cling could count one less ally
Because to shackle someone with the past shows lack of sight
Of all the ways they’ve changed if you just cling to that old fight
