Busy

9 May

Busy

Sorry, I don’t have the time
To talk to you today
I’m too busy with my life
To hear what you’ve to say

I’ve got this thing to do right now
And it can’t wait a sec
But maybe if things do ease up
Can I get a raincheck?

Not sure when that will be though
This thing is so high stakes
I’m so invested and full-blast
I can’t put on the brakes

I wish I could put it on hold
And ask what’s new with you
But you have to understand
My spare moments are few

I’ve barely got the time to eat
Or make a change of clothes
Or watch the playoff game tonight
Or other favourite shows

Sorry, I wish I could help
There’s so much going on
I’m so tied up in my affairs
I’m just a bit withdrawn

With what is going on around
The world outside of me
Hopefully I’ll have time to
Open my eyes and see

That the greatest purpose in
Life is to serve others
Maybe once things calm a bit
I’ll have time for my brothers

I’ll tell you what, this thing I’ve got
Could hold on just a bit
It’s not the end of the world if
We take the time to sit

And now that I think twice about
This other thing I’ve got
It won’t take as much time as I
Thought that it would allot

And since there’s times I’m really bored
And have nothing to do
I’d feel like such a hypocrite
To have no time for you

When I stop and ponder how
The word “busy” is used
I realize I’m just asking
Myself to be excused

For only having time for me
And my selfish affairs
It’s not a word that’s ever used
By anyone who cares

So strike what I said earlier
I’m not busy at all
My stuff can wait ‘till later on
I’ve got time for your call

It’s funny how despite how busy
Every day would seem
I didn’t realize that time’s
Passing was not extreme

There’s always moments to step back
From our busy day’s work
Service is the one job that
We shouldn’t ever shirk

Grind

Grind

Too many look past
The sweat and the grind
Want the gold prize
But are idle inclined

Now I don’t claim
To be some dynamo
To tell you the truth
I’m feeling quite slow

From the aches and the pains
That are holding me back
But slow as I go
I don’t curb my attack

‘Cause it’s not about how
Fast you finish the race
In fact there’s no finish
It’s all in the chase

It’s running the road
That you know never ends
And pushing yourself
When it always extends

Accepting that there
Is no end in sight
Pushing on boldly
With all of your might

Not looking beside you
To see how the others
Compare with your pace
Or you with another’s

It’s about your potential
Finding your limit
And pushing it further
When you’d much rather quit

It’s about being spent
Completely tapped out
Then roaring with vigor
A primeval shout

“I’ll never give up
It’s not in my code
I’ll keep trudging on
Even though slowed”

Endurance and faith
Conviction and will
Awake in yourself
And in others, instill

And after a while
As others have sat
And you’ve ground your feet
Till they’re ragged and flat

They’ll marvel at all
That you have attained
From running the road
From not being chained

And they’ll want the same
And maybe they too
Will have the conviction
To follow it through

But remind them that it
Does come at a price
Before they lace up
Give this sound advice:

“There’s no end in sight
There won’t be a finish
The harder you grind
The more you diminish

It’s the warrior’s code
To give it your all
And when legs start to buckle
Well, then you can crawl

The goal is to always
Be moving forward
That is the prize
The grind will reward”

The Pursuit of Happiness

20 Apr
The Pursuit of Happiness

A basic right of life you have been told since you were small
“Pursuit of happiness” they guaranteed since you could crawl
They promised that you were entitled to your happiness
But added the world “pursuit” which has caused you all your stress

“Pursuit,” ironically, is what has caused anxiety
Desire, as the Buddha said, keeps you from being free
Wanting, hoping, praying for the things that bring you joy
Ironically are the same things which all your peace destroy

The very act of desire is what robs us of bliss
For wanting is the ego’s path into the dark abyss
That’s not to say we cannot try or train or have a goal
To fall down and get right back up is the will of the soul

But craving a specific outcome in close-minded way
And being blind to other results is the ego’s way
Pursuit is not required, happiness is where you stand
There to be enjoyed by only those who don’t demand

Take It Back

16 Feb

“Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered I have fought my way here to take back what you have stolen.” ~Labyrinth

Take It Back

We’re given a life
That is free from all strife
When our mothers gives birth
But it soon loses worth

Over years from decisions
Of not chasing visions
Of aborting our goals
And allowing our souls

To grow too complacent
Focus too much on rent
And material things
Which just emptiness brings

And then one day we see
That we’re no longer free
Our lives have been taken
By those who have shaken

The truth from our hearts
And imposed shallow parts
Saying money and praise
Is for what we should craze

This warrior comes
To bang on battle drums
And to give battle cry:
“Take it back ‘fore you die!”

“Take your life back from them
All their concepts condemn
All their fierce competition
And their golden ambition

All their status and bragging
Leaves your compassion lagging
All their feeding of pride
Only serves to misguide

Shut out all the noise
And regain your true poise
It is time to wage war
On the concept of “more”

On the things they’ve told us:
That we should cause a fuss
Whenever we can’t
Achieve what will enchant

Come full circle to
The truth that you once knew
Before they all took
Your true joy with their hook

Let go selfishness
And all of the stress
Take your life back and live
For your true purpose: to give”

Warrior Resolutions

26 Dec

*WARRIOR POET WISDOM 200th POST!*

“I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the year’s.”  ~Henry Moore

Warrior Resolutions

I resolve to do this year
What I have done today
And that’s to put into motion
All of the things I say

I resolve to stop making
A list of things to do
I resolve to recognize
I must put ground to shoe

I resolve to stop wishing
And picturing my goals
I resolve to recognize
It is *I* that controls

Not a list of resolutions
That will be ignored
Every time I’m feeling lazy
Lethargic or bored

I resolve to not rise to
My expectation’s level
Instead my degree of training
Is in which I will revel

I resolve to not care if it’s
New Year’s Day or not
A calendar does not control
Potential I have got

I resolve to shut up now
And go forth and kick ass
And not waste any more time talking
Of what I’ll amass

Say It, Do It

2 Dec

Say It, Do It

There’s two real simple steps involved
In doing anything
Step 1 is to say it, then
To cease to simply sing

Step 2 is to do it, to get
Up and put in motion
The idea that you talked about
The brilliant little notion

Here’s the funny thing about
Accomplishing a goal:
Only one step’s mandatory
To get on a roll

Step 1 is just optional
You do not need to talk
About what you are planning on
So that you’ll walk the walk

The problem is that talking is
The much easier choice
Very few can claim to sweat
From simply using voice

The second option of doing
Is not as pleasant, nor
Is it as exciting, it can
Tend to be a bore

And that’s why so many folks have
A lot of plans they’ve said
Never end up happening
And stay up in their head

Because they didn’t shut their mouths
And advance to Step 2
Remember, you don’t have to talk
But you must always do
