No Apologies

18 Jul

An oldie but a goodie. 🙂

“It is a good rule in life never to apologize.  The right sort of people do not want apologies, and the wrong sort take a mean advantage of them.”  ~P.G. Wodehouse, The Man Upstairs

No Apologies

Sorry is a word that we
Should try our best to lose
It’s a concept Warriors
Should rarely ever use

We say it with no thought of how
The word’s truly defined
So let me take a moment to
Look it up and remind:

Regrettable, deplorable
Sorrowful, grieved or sad
Wretched, poor and pitiful
Without use to be had

Warriors are never sorry
For a single thing
They understand the consequences
Of the words they fling

They put thought into what they say
And also what they do
And when some feelings get hurt they
Still hold fast and stay true

To what they do believe in
Even if feathers are ruffled
They don’t make up excuses and
Let their voices be muffled

The goal is to be confident
In all you do and say
All “I’m sorry” serves to do
Is shows that you will stray

“I’m sorry” is a “too late” phrase
It doesn’t change the past
Resolve to make the next time that
You say it be your last

Resolve to not do anything
That you will soon regret
Do nothing deplorable
That will leave you in debt

Save yourself from the sorrow
From being sad and grieved
If you said or did something
It’s because you believed

Be not wretched, pitiful
You’re much better than that
Differing opinions don’t
Have to end in combat

Agree to disagree and let
Each side have their own views
Never let another’s ego
Make you sing the blues

By saying that you’re sorry and
Indulging “sensitives”
Tip-toeing on eggshells is
Not how a Warrior lives

Replace “sorry” with “deal with it”
Or a similar phrase
Like “get over yourself” and watch
All of the eyebrows raise

Because it’s in that moment where
The ego shows its face
Showing no regret is how
We put it in its place

Warrior Resolutions

Warrior Resolutions

I resolve to do this year
What I have done today
And that’s to put into motion
All of the things I say

I resolve to stop making
A list of things to do
I resolve to recognize
I must put ground to shoe

I resolve to stop wishing
And picturing my goals
I resolve to recognize
It is *I* that controls

Not a list of resolutions
That will be ignored
Every time I’m feeling lazy
Lethargic or bored

I resolve to not rise to
My expectation’s level
Instead my degree of training
Is in which I will revel

I resolve to not care if it’s
New Year’s Day or not
A calendar does not control
Potential I have got

I resolve to shut up now
And go forth and kick ass
And not waste any more time talking
Of what I’ll amass

Do The Work

Do The Work

A common response people have to many of my writes:
“If only we could be that strong and ascend to those heights”
Wishing will not get you there and waiting won’t help you
A Warrior once told me how, I’ll pass it on to you:
“Do the work,” he simply said and then sat silently
From his quiet tone I could tell that he could foresee
That most people he told this to would never do the work
They want the giant muscles but don’t do the clean and jerk
They want the toned athletic shape but do not want to sweat
They want to live a stress free life but continue to fret
They want the wisdom to live lives of substance, meaning, hope
But when the writings of wise men appear, they just say, “Nope”
“I’m not much for reading” or “I’m too busy right now”
“I’ve got a lot of things going,” “My schedule won’t allow”
If you do not make the time it will never be there
If you do not make the time it shows how much you care
That Warrior that spoke to me had encountered so many
That all wanted to be like him but very few, if any
Did the work to learn and grow, to master their own mind
They saw the price that must be paid and most of them declined
And now I know why he did speak so quietly that day
Why there was no vigor in the words that he did say
‘Cause most people just love the thought of being wise and strong
But do not like the hard truth that the training is lifelong
“Do the work” I say to all who think “I wish I could”
‘Cause wishing, craving, and waiting won’t do you any good

Mr. Resistance

6 Jul

“What is not for you is against you. What is against you is your enemy and you need to kill it. Your fears. Your doubts. Your lack of confidence. Your lack of belief in a destiny. A certain, absolute destiny you have to do something unique and great on this planet while you are here. Anything that stands in the way of that, any ‘Mr. Resistance,’ no matter the stature of that motherfucker, you need to kill him.” ~Ultimate Warrior

bat
Mr. Resistance

You wake up in the morning and
He’s breathing down your back
Mr. Resistance is standing
And ready to attack

Before you can even roll out
Of bed to start your day
Mr. Resistance pushes you
To back the other way

If by chance you can plow through
And get yourself all dressed
He’ll climb aboard your back so that
You constantly feel pressed

You’ll have to drag your feet if you
Want to keep making strides
Mr. Resistance won’t help you
When on your back he rides

He makes the gravity feel twice
As strong as it may be
And don’t believe for a moment
That he will set you free

He’ll drag you down and make you feel
Like not doing your work
And as you sit down on the couch
This fiend will slowly lurk

And wait for you to get the itch
To get up and get moving
But once he’s on your back again
You’ll have a war removing

This advocate of laziness
This champion of slug
Mr. Resistance sees you try
That’s when you feel his tug

The only way to break free of
His power-draining cling
Is grab the nearest baseball bat
And let that sucker swing!

Don’t just swing for fences, that’s
Not far enough for him
Mr. Resistance needs to be
Sent back to somewhere grim

Swing for deepest, darkest parts
Of Hell and send him reeling
Send that draining vampire
Back home, the whole way squealing

And with the strength you have left in
Yourself, train your forearms
Train them extra, extra hard
Because of the alarms

That will go off the next morning
When he returns once more
Mr. Resistance will be back
And down your neck he’ll bore

You’ll need the extra strength to beat
Him back because he’ll be
Twice as pissed when he returns
Or maybe even three

Grab that bat and swing with all
You have and don’t hold back
Swing and pound and stab and strike
And fend off his attack

And if you are successful then
Get ready for a war
Tomorrow it starts all again
He’ll be back with a roar

But just remember you have what
It takes to knock him out
Taking back your life by force
Is what it’s all about

Compensate

3 Apr

compensate

Compensate

“All or nothing” is a way
Of thinking that will lead
To nothing more than standing still
If you have just one speed

As years go by the damage will
Take toll on a few parts
But when a limb is lost, that’s when
The intensity starts

And heightened training  on surviving
Limbs must then be done
If something is wrong with your arm
Your task is then to run

If knees are shot or ankles ache
Then get yourself a bench
Realize your arms still work
And can be used to clench

And lift and throw around dead weight
And get your life blood flowing
If atrophy attacks one part
Then others must be growing

Compensate, don’t sit and cry
About what doesn’t work
Don’t focus on injury
‘Cause healthy parts you’ll shirk

Warriors will find a way
To push themselves as far
Physically as they can go
No matter what does mar

They’ll run or walk with neck and back
And shoulder injuries
They’ll exercise their abs and chest
Despite their blown-out knees

They are aware of what remains
And let go of what’s gone
So that the healthy parts increase
In endurance and brawn
