“Only” Human

“Only” Human

There were two human brothers who were named Keelav and Stirn
Keelav thought himself as limited and did not yearn
His brother, though, saw potential that coursed through all his veins
He recognized the power and wisdom by he who trains

Keelav sighed and often said, “I’m only human, right?”
He thought his bone and sinew were a hindrance, a plight
Stirn, however, saw himself as something greater than
He’d often say, “This challenge will be conquered, fore I’m MAN!”

As years did pass, Keelav grew lazy and increased in girth
“I’m only human,” he would sigh, belittling own worth
Stirn, however, honed his muscles which sharpened his mind
He’d say, “I’m ALL OF human, to potential I’m not blind”

And Keelav would dismiss his brother, saying, “Well, that’s YOU!”
Wanting it both ways, to claim that all humans imbue
A sense of limits and failure, while Stirn was the exception
“I disagree,” bold Stirn would say, “you have a weak perception”

Stirn told of the Warriors who had come before him
All those with great strength and focus no matter how grim
He listed off great generals, great scholars, teachers, guards
Men who were indomitable, the soldiers and the bards

“Well that’s just them,” Keelav dismissed, and then Stirn did accept
That Keelav’s problem wasn’t “human,” something else had crept
Into his mind and taken hold, the parasite of fear
The gluttonous leech which saps our innate strength year after year

“Only,” Stirn said softly, “that one word has held you back
It’s kept you meek and docile whenever there’s attack
It’s your cry of retreat whenever your wits have been tested
And it is why you’ve always failed and floundered and been bested

The ‘only’ thing you’ve ‘only’ done is ‘only’ chosen to
‘Only’ ignore what is right and natural and true
You’re ‘only’ lazy, ‘only’ scared and ‘only’ miserable
You see yourself as empty when the truth is that you’re full”

Keelav wept and cried as Stirn departed, “Forgive me!
I’m only human!” Keelav sobbed and dropped down to his knee
Stirn walked on and did not stop and never did return
For years his reprimand echoed in Keelav’s mind and burned

“Only this and only that,” he pondered and he dwelled
“ONLY THIS AND ONLY THAT!” he seethed and fumed and yelled
“Only this…and only that…” he whispered and he sighed
“Only this…and…only…that…” he closed his eyes and died

Pushed

4 Nov
PushedDid you push yourself today when ego said “I’m tired”?
Did you do what you needed instead of what’s desired?
Did you sacrifice your sweat in order to be stronger?
Did you strain and breathe harder in order to last longer?
Did you lodge a hard, swift kick right onto your own ass?
Or did you take it easy, just sit back and smoke some grass?
Did you put your feet up and take a big swig of beer
And turn on the TV and ask others to bring you cheer?
Did you sit and just consume and hope it all works out?
And then when the shit hits the fan all you will do is pout?
Because when you had chances to forge your mind into steel
All you did was take it easy and eat a big meal
Have a couple drinks, some smokes and try to feel so good
While being stressed out because things aren’t going as they should
Accountability is hard for people who don’t push
It’s much easier to blame others while sitting on your tush
The Warrior is pushed from all directions, but it pales
To their own push and that is why a Warrior prevails
‘Cause nothing that life has to throw can ever match the force
A Warrior uses to keep him or herself on course
“I wish I had your patience,” many normals tell the one
In one hundred, perhaps they would if they neglected fun
And comfort, ease, and luxury for focus and resolve
The Warrior’s not born this way, they’re built, forged and evolve
With pushes every single day, each hour, minute, second
The push is why the Warrior is one with to be reckoned

Warrior Weight Loss Wisdom

28 Dec

“Discipline is wisdom and vice versa.” ~M. Scott Peck

Warrior Weight Loss Wisdom

Many people struggle with
The battle to lose weight
The problem is that they look for
Shortcuts to find their fate

I’m speaking from experience
When I speak of weight loss
Let me take a moment and
My weight history gloss

I was obese when I was young
Because I ate too much
And because I didn’t move
With running, sports and such

They laughed and poked their fun and called me
“Fatty” and a pig
I lost the weight because their insults
Did so deeply dig

I lost it through shortcuts like eating
Hardly any food
And shakes and pills because I was
Concerned how I was viewed

Surprise surprise, the weight came back
Because I hadn’t learned
Anything of discipline
And how weight loss is earned

Again I felt inadequate
Again I sought shortcuts
Diet pills instead of work
Starving instead of guts

Again the weight came off and then
Again it came right back
Again I felt that I was under
Their constant attack

But something finally came to me
The true reason to lose
All the weight I carried which
Had caused so many blues

When I chose to trim my waist
Not for another’s praise
But for my own accomplishment
That ended my fat days

I took the motto “try harder”
And didn’t look for ease
I finally accepted that
Weight loss was not a breeze

I disciplined myself with food
That didn’t taste that great
Compared to all the fried delights
That had packed on the weight

I exercised and learned about
What my true limits were
I stopped letting discomfort and
A little pain deter

The weight came off but I did not
Feel any swell of pride
I didn’t gaze in mirrors, my
New body wasn’t eyed

It was a by-product of something
Greater that I gained
An understanding of the power
Of being self-trained

No routines or regiments
No classes did I take
I didn’t have a trainer for
My convenience’s sake

I listened to my body and
Used it all that I could
And slashed my mind to ribbons when
It said “This is not good!”

“This is uncomfortable, this is
Too hard, this is not fun!
You’ be much happier if you
Ate junk and weighed a tonne!”

The weight stayed off because I have
The one thing that you need
In order for your weight loss to
Permanently succeed:

Discipline, the rigor of
Training, experience
Ability to make right choices
‘Cause you are intense

You cannot get it in a pill
Or shake or diet plan
The strength is already in you
So simplify your scan

Stop searching for methods to
Reduce your extra pounds
Cut out sugar and fried food
And push physical bounds

Go out for a jog, don’t fret
When you are out of breath
You’re falling to the level of
Your training, not your death

In time you will build discipline
And strength, conditioning
You’ll learn to stand up on your own
And to shortcuts not cling

And when you reach your goal you’ll see
The body that you’ve earned
Isn’t something that you’ll flaunt
For their heads to be turned

It’s something more, a symbol of
Your potential achieved
When you forsake the shortcuts and
In yourself have believed

Tougher & Stronger

Jesus Walked

6 Mar

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” ~Jesus Christ

Jesus Walked

I’ve never been too keen on going
To a single place
Every single week to pray
And worship the Lord’s grace

Churches have just always seemed
A bit monotonous
A bit too easy, too familiar
And too little fuss

I started thinking about how
The Savior didn’t go
To the same building each week
To make His parish grow

Jesus walked and came to those
Who needed strength and hope
Jesus walked to heal the sick
And help downtrodden cope

Jesus walked and didn’t have
A set weekly routine
Jesus walked which kept His legs
As well as His faith lean

Explore, venture, get off the beaten
Path you always travel
Forgo the comfortable paved roads
And set out on the gravel

Walk out of your comfort zone
And change, adapt, discover
Only when you look in new
Places will you uncover

New people, new challenges
New things to overcome
Enliven all those senses which
Have grown tired and numb

Follow in the footsteps of
The Savior and start walking
You weren’t meant to simply sit
And listen to some talking

If you’re blessed with legs then walk
And put your faith in motion
Sitting and listening doesn’t
Take any devotion

Don’t just hark on what Christ said
Take heed of what He did
Jesus never stayed put and
He surely never hid

Think about it next time you
Get in your car and drive
Down to church, just ask yourself
“Is this how people thrive?”

Maybe you’d be better off
To stretch your legs instead
And put to use all the things in
The Bible you have read
