Test

Test

Tests are not just something that
You have to take in class
The judgement of your fortitude
Is something that won’t pass

There’ll never be a final test
There won’t be an exam
And best not to procrastinate
You won’t have time to cram

Everything in life is meant
To analyse your worth
The tests have been administered
Since right around your birth

Sharing toys with other kids
And playing nice at school
Welcoming the new student
When others would be cruel

Losing baseball games with grace
And shaking winners hands
Respecting what your parents say
Obeying their commands

A few years pass, but tests still come
In every shape and form
Provoke you to give in to hate
And tempt you to conform

Every parking ticket is a
Test of poise and tact
Each one passed will help you with
The next time you’re attacked

Your boss may not be the most patient
Guy or gal you know
But the more that they test you
The more you will bestow

Tolerance and understanding
Upon your temperament
Peace of mind is what you’ll have
While they stress and lament

Family isn’t always going to
Get along so well
But speaking softly works much better
Than when people yell

Every seat kicked at the theatre
Every kernel chomped
Can put your patience to the test
If tolerance is prompt

There’s a list of things that can
Annoy you day to day
But if you bomb the test it will
Only cause you dismay

Study hard by staying calm
And letting go of things
That you have no control over
And severing the strings

The more you ace the more you’ll see
The tests for what they are
The more inclined you will be to
Receive one more gold star

Warrior’s Prayer

12 Feb

Warrior’s Prayer

The common routine
When one goes to pray
Is to get down on knees
And in one spot stay

Clasp hands together
Keep eyes closed tight
In an attempt
To not see the plight

That may work just fine
If you wish to give praise
But most don’t give prayer
Until darkest days

And when the storm comes
I’ve found it works best
To not just curl up
And beg to be blessed

And that’s a main problem
With people who follow
If you beg for a break
Then your prayers are just hollow

The point’s not to live
The easiest life
It’s to build up the strength
To endure the strife

When hardships befall
Don’t beg for an end
Get up while you pray
For the strength to transcend

Open your eyes
As you ask for resolve
And accept that motion
Is the key to evolve

Although this concept
To a few may appall
A prayer on your knees
Will do no good at all

It’s been my experience
When times are their worst
The best start to prayer
Is to get up first

One foot then the other
Keep myself moving
To God above
And to myself proving

I’m not looking for lenience
I’m not begging for pity
I know parts of life
Are not going to be pretty

I pray to the Father
For strength added on
To what’s already in me
To my own employed brawn

Upgrade my power
And my fortitude, raise
Enhance my patience
Amid all the craze

In the book of Isaiah
Forty-one: ten
“I will strengthen and help you”
The Lord said, amen

But strength will not do you
Much good at all
If you’re hidden away
Curled up in a ball

The warrior’s way
Is to charge with no fear
And the warrior’s prayer
Is made in high gear

Forged

Warryor background

Forged

You may have stumbled on my site and wondered, “Who’s this man?
Who’s this painted sword wielder with eyes that glare dead-pan?”
Who’s this poet who writes things easier said than done
Like sacrifice and discipline and other things not fun?
I am one of the last Warriors upon this Earth
Forged in fires of great pain and loss which scorched my mirth
The fires cauterized my ego, sealing its wide leak
The glowing embers melted all that was docile and meek
Two babies buried and a body wracked with constant pain
“Friends” who had no empathy and claimed I went insane
The forge that I existed in burned away all bullshit
The fakeness, status, small talk, popularity and wit
All that’s left is iron will and refined steel resolve
It was within that forge where I awoke and did evolve
Purified of the black cancer of human desire
Forged into a Warrior by enlightening fire
And now the fire spreads to wake the others who still sleep
Do not fear the fire, friends, do not lament and weep
No, it’s not that easy, quite the opposite in fact
Being forged is the most painful method to extract
Your full potential and power and that is why you must
Not recoil from the inferno, instead you must thrust
Yourself into the flames and just have faith you will survive
Forged into to a force of nature no one can deprive

Some Choose Hell

Some Choose Hell

The children sat in class while teacher offered them the choice:
“Little ones, who wants to work and who wants to rejoice?”
All the children ‘cept for one jumped up and squealed with glee
All except that one who did not follow or agree

“Izbor?” Teacher asked, “Why do you sit at desk so stern?”
Young Izbor gave him a sly glare, “Because that’s how I learn”
While all the children were dismissed to run outside and play
Izbor sat at his desk with his pen and worked away

Some years later, on his way back home along with mates
A storm ensued which caused the violent crashing of their straits
“It’s best if we turn back the way we came!” they all cried out
Izbor, on the other hand, chose not to wait for drought

He strapped himself tight to his raft and withstood the storm’s rage
And as he did so often, his mileage excelled his age
Several days would pass before his mates would make their way
Safely back to home while whining of sore feet all day

“Oh, my legs are aching” one complained, “I’m in great pain!
Just a few more steps and I fear I’ll suffer a sprain!”
Another moaned, “The sun’s so hot! My skin is turning pink!
When I get home I cannot wait to sleep after a drink!”

As they walked into town they spotted Izbor, bruised and cut
“You managed to survive the storm!” Izbor replied, “Somewhat”
He then walked by and left the town, they asked, “Where are you going?”
“I’ve been here now for several days and do feel myself slowing”

They shook their heads and called him mad, “He always chooses worst!
To not enjoy this peaceful town, that Izbor must be cursed!”
As the years went by his friends grew soft and slow and weak
They laughed as they reminded him, “The world goes to the meek!”

“They can have it,” Izbor said as he sharpened his blade
And set off into the dark forest on his lone crusade
To hunt down and to kill the crazed tiger that feasted on
Three young girls and their mother shortly after the dawn

Izbor found the tiger drinking from a little creek
He drew his sword and beckoned, “Prey on someone who’s not weak”
The tiger took as much from Izbor as he took from beast
And for a moment Izbor saw white light and felt released

A great and powerful being stood before Izbor and
The battered tiger, leaned forward and then outstretched his hand
He pointed to the tiger and he boomed, “To hell with you!”
The tiger sprung towards the flaming gates and then leapt through

The great Judge turned but Izbor had already made his choice
He walked towards the burning gates with resolve in his voice
“Save your clouds and golden harps for those who have no spine
For those who cry, lament, complain, who beg and plead and whine”

“The harder path has always been the one which built my power
Give my spot in Heaven to some worm who likes to cower”
“So be it,” the Judge replied as Izbor entered Hell
And did just as he always had; to conquer and to quell

The ruler in the burning land took notice and looked close
“What the Hell is that?” he asked, for Izbor did engross
“Who’s this man that chooses Hell when ease was in his reach?
Who’s this man that feels the burning pain but does not screech?”

Those around Izbor did suffer in eternity
But Izbor did not suffer, unlike them, Izbor was free
Because he never gave power to any circumstance
Nothing was a problem to Izbor, simply a chance

To fight, endure, to conquer and to be challenged once more
“He’s missed the point of this whole place!” the burning ruler swore
“Get him the Hell out of here!” the horned tyrant ordained
And that is how not even Hell could keep Izbor contained

Embrace the Struggle

31 May

My friend Julienne (Trixie!) shared this great article with me all about embracing struggle (see my recent poem “Love It All”), fighting resistance (see “Mr. Resistance”) and calling upon the greatest ally you’ll ever know: the Warrior within.
I don’t expect this concept to be something people will instantly get and immediately put into effect. It’s one of those pesky seeds of truth that, over time, will eventually sprout because the simple truth is that not embracing the struggle simply doesn’t work, and eventually everyone who runs and hides has to be honest with themselves and admit it.

Love It All

29 May

“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” ~Mother Teresa

Love It All

Gurus speak of how you must
Embrace the world with love
How you must be a vessel for
Creator up above

How love should permeate throughout
Your heart and bones and soul
“Love’s the only way!” they say
To dig out of the hole

And though this Warrior Poet
Will often disagree
With what the masses say, with this
I’ll heartily agree

But irony is those who say
That love’s the only way
Seldom love the things that cause
Their joy to go away

They’ll say that you must love, but when
A problem rears its head
Instead of saying, “I love it!”
They’re filled with angst and dread

When tragedy befalls them, they
Will not smile and relish
The opportunity to train, instead
They act as if it’s hellish

“What an awful thing!” they cry
And sigh and furrow brow
Exuding negativity
And not keeping their vow

These “positive thinkers” who have
Their head in clouds and sand
Fail to follow own advice
When harsh world does demand

Something more than sunny days
And rainbows in the sky
“You must love!” they lie and lie
And lie and lie and lie

The Warrior exudes true love
In good times and in bad
Their love does not run dry when something
Makes the others sad

The Warrior just smiles and loves
The challenge that is brought
The chance to understand, let go
Be tested, stretched and taught

The Warrior is not selective
Warriors love all
Furry, cute kittens as well
As what makes normals bawl

Love’s the only way, it’s true
But that applies to both
The light as well as darkness which
Together give love growth
