Bullies

Bullies

When I was young, I was bullied for many different things
Most of which I could not help, I felt their barbs and stings
Because I had a funny name, because I was too fat
Because when my mom bought my clothes she had to ensure that
They were the cheapest possible because money was tight
It was a blessing in disguise because I learned how sight
Was the deciding factor of most simple little brains
Soon the stinging of their words caused very little pains
It forced me to then recognize what causes such an act
To bully someone else shows that IN BULLY something’s lacked
Perhaps they don’t have enough love, perhaps not enough care
Or maybe worst of all is that they simply aren’t aware
I see so many campaigns on how bullies must be stopped
But when dealing with these bullies, it seems most people opt
To keep their distance and behave in the same detached way
Black and white opinions, same as bullies do display
What took the power of bullies away for young Miro
Was that I took a step forward and awful truth did show
The bully is not a monster, they are a tortured soul
They hate themselves and try to tear down others to feel whole
They’re disappointed in themselves for not standing apart
They are diseased, a cancer eats away at their cold heart
They’re filled with fear of rejection and sacrifice such traits
As empathy and understanding just to please their mates
Friends who are as tortured as the bully is as well
All these self-hating wretches who writhe in their own hell
I see so many techniques on how to deal with these blokes
Some throw punches, some tattle and some deflect with jokes
No one taught me my technique, I found it on my own
I walked toward the bully, stepped into their comfort zone
And said, “I see you, recognize, I feel how much you loathe
Yourself and how you try to cope by saying that I clothe
Myself in silly garments and how my shape is too wide
Your words have no effect because I see that you have cried
I recognize the emptiness behind your lifeless eyes
I see the desperation through your sarcastic disguise”
My words are never meant to hurt, it’s simply truth I speak
And more often than not, my words make the bully quite meek
Some will try to laugh it off, a quite common defense
I just tell them, “In a few hours my words will all make sense”
Because when there’s no “enemy” around, the bully will
Turn all that hatred inward on themselves and then feel ill
Perhaps for “Bully Victims” that may give some peace of mind
Nothing bullies say to you will rip and tear and grind
Away at you as much as all these bullies self-destroy
Frustrating? No, bullies aren’t people who do annoy
They’re simply tragic cowards flailing madly in the dark
It takes a Warrior to strike with truth and hit the mark

Pushed

25 Oct

As shocking as it may sound, I’ve had some complaints at work made against me. Do you get offended, hurt or worked up when someone makes false accusations towards you? I used to, but having a warrior-mindset has eradicated the need to defend, explain, and exonerate my name. I’ve learned that there’s a common theme with all of the people who point a finger at me and say I’m rude, abrasive or difficult, and that common theme is that they lack what a warrior possesses and is capable off…

Pushed

They push and push until you crack
And when you do, then they step back
They see that you have had enough
So they watch as you huff and puff

But what if you simply don’t crack?
What if you bare their attack?
What if there is no effect?
What if they cannot deject?

What if you’re a rock when they
Have hurtful, hateful things to say?
What if your reserve stands fast
When you are bullied and harassed?

I’ll tell you what will happen, mate
When you refuse to take the bait
They’ll whine and cry that YOU’RE the one
Who was abrasive and did shun

A warrior’s an anomaly
From drama they are fully free
And since the normals cannot grasp
They imagine your voice is rasp

They imagine that you aren’t nice
They give their pathetic advice
They say, “You really need to learn
To deal with this kind of concern!”

They’ll make a complaint to your boss
Another try to incur loss
But boss will simply hear the tale
Of how a weak normal did fail

To push a warrior around
And tried to grind you to the ground
But since your grace was kept in tact
They snivelled to make an impact

By crying to authorities
To try to bring you to your knees
But no one, not grunts or a chief
Can give a warrior much grief

They can’t be pushed, they are a wall
And it’s the PUSHERS who all fall
While warriors stand firm and strong
Bear witness to all that is wrong

The ego and the selfishness
The cowardice and laziness
The fact they push so hard reveals
That they lack warrior ideals

Stand fast, stand firm, and do not bend
Do not explain, do not defend
And do not fear they’ll be believed
Because all those who are deceived

Are just as weak as those who shove
And push and are devoid of love
Who do not serve and give and care
Let your attack just be a glare

A knowing glance that weakness stands
Before you with its outstretched hands
In vain attempt to push you back
Do not falter, do not crack

Into War

facetoface

Into War

To war you must sometimes decide
To head into, to walk, to ride

To face the selfish ignorants
To aid the weak, be their defense

Against all those who take and take
The cowardly who aren’t awake

The ones who do lack empathy
Who just one point of view do see

In war we must engage these boors
Cowards run, but one endures

The Warrior stands face to face
And only does exhibit grace

No anger or hostility
Just searing, painful, third-degree

Of truth is hurled at all who hurt
For their own gain, let us assert

Let Warriors step up and walk
And stare in eyes of those who talk

And talk and talk but do so little
Let us show them just how brittle

Their selfish egos really are
As we draw blade of truth and scar

With words like “Coward,” “Selfish,” “Weak”
“Self-centered,” “Self-absorbed” and “Bleak”

No insults hurled, just what’s observed
And truth will make ego unnerved

Do not fear the war on hate
It is every Warrior’s fate

To walk into the fire though
All others run away in woe

Towards the things which irritate
Which scare and cause to be irate

To stare into its pupils and
Refuse to budge, to make a stand

To say, “You move” to bullies who
Wish you as well would say “Adeiu”

If more would go into this war
And not think of it as a chore

If more would face the ugliness
Instead of saying, “Too much stress!”

Then those who bully and torment
And tease would finally relent

Because they’d know there was a price
And every bully would think twice

They’d think, “Perhaps I’ll hold my tongue”
For fear a Warrior’s among

The timid masses and would go
Into war, stand toe to toe

And give them not a single inch
Not be afraid and never flinch

Stare into their hate filled eyes
And say, “I can see through your guise

I can see past this mask you’ve made
And it does not make me afraid

You don’t have an effect on me
So lean in, come look close and see

That I was born to face, confront
To step in path and take the brunt

And still survive to just repeat
To go to war while rest retreat”

And into war we’ll always walk
With those who disrespect and mock

It’s into war where we reveal
Our iron will and grace of steel

The Bashful Blushing Blonde’s Blinding Box of Brilliance

22 Dec

“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know.  Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.” ~Buckminster Fuller

brilliance

The Bashful Blushing Blonde’s Blinding Box of Brilliance

There once was a Blonde who begat
A box that most couldn’t stare at
For you see it was filled
With much brilliance that spilled
Out its confines and made many scat

For the brilliance within made them feel
As if their boring world was less real
And so most ran away
Although some chose to stay
And with snide remarks tried to conceal

They poked fun and all rolled their eyes
And besmirched the brilliance with their lies
They all tried to tarnish
It’s bright, brilliant varnish
With mocking they claimed was so wise

The Blonde blushed as she looked inside
And wondered if what she had eyed
Was not really as fair
As she’d first been aware
And thought it best to close it and hide

But through the crowd came someone new
Who called out, “Whatever you do
Don’t you dare put away
That box ‘cause what they say
Is just cowardly speak and not true!”

The crowd stepped aside as he waded
Through cynics, naysayers and jaded
And then someone noted
This Stranger was coated
By same light as box they degraded

So the crowd turned all of their attention
To him and gave same apprehension
But unlike silent box
This Stranger loudly talks
And proceeded to dauntlessly mention

How blind all of them had behaved
How pathetic, selfish and depraved
It had been to see joy
And just try to destroy
The passion of someone who had braved

To open the box and look in
While the cowards stood by with a grin
And had poked fun and made
The Blonde’s complexion shade
Into bashful, embarrassed red skin

The Stranger grabbed the box’s top
And tore it clean off with a pop
The brilliance spilled out
And the snide crowd did pout
But the Stranger swore it wouldn’t stop

He turned to the Blonde and he said:
“Never let their despair spread
Never allow
A snide comment to bow
Or to lower or curtail your head”

He threw the box top into crowd
It disappeared into the shroud
And he wandered back through
Into those who were blue
While the Blonde stood with her head not bowed

As the blinding brilliance poured outward
Some of the crowd still murmured
“Tough luck!” the Blonde said
While holding high her head
“There’s no closing this box, I’m a nerd!

I’m a geek! I have passion! I’m weird!
And your attitude’s no longer feared!
I won’t feel ashamed
My passion won’t be tamed
For the things that are loved and revered!”

And low and behold, some then saw
The true brilliance within which made jaw
Fall down to the floor
And then they loudly swore
To no longer tease, joke and guffaw

So if you have a box which you hide
Perhaps someday a Stranger will ride
Into your town and tear
The lid clean off and dare
You to not let its contents subside

But sometimes that Stranger won’t come
So it’s up to you to take your thumb
And your fingers and rip
The lid clean off and whip
That lid into the darkest, dank slum

And stare at the passion which blinds
So many aloof, fearful minds
Take the steps to confirm
That you’ll no longer squirm
‘Cause that lidless box always reminds

Distant Bullies

25 Oct

A little story about the nature and psychology of bullies: No poems about this encounter, just another example of how “people lie” and don’t present themselves as they really are. As I was walking on the sidewalk today, a young man wearing sunglasses and a hood bobbed from side to side as he walked in “thuggish” manner. His exaggerated movements made it impossible to *not* notice him. As he passed by, he angrily looked at me and said “What the fuck you looking at?” As I continued, I heard him continue to threaten me, saying, “You got a problem? You don’t know me, don’t be lookin’ at me!” Most people would continue walking. Most would feel intimidated and think, “Oh God, I don’t need this, please just leave me alone.” Most people aren’t Warriors though…

I turned around and looked at him, despite his warning. I didn’t return any insults, nor did I look angry or exhibit any hostility towards him. I simply stood and watched him, blankly. He pulled off his sunglasses and started walking towards me and continued to spout his brave threats…until he was about 6 feet away from me. Then something typical happened. As with most bullies, he became a coward once proximity was no longer protecting him. He backed into a door to a store, flung it open, threatened me once again with bodily harm and then disappeared into the store, as if he had meant to go in all along. As he entered, I said only one word to him, calmly: “Relax.” He had no response to this person who dared look at him and tell him what to do.

Ever since I stopped walking away from bullies, this has happened on every single occasion with people who have threatened me or tried to physically intimate me. No exceptions, my friends. People continue to warn me and say “One of these days, you’re going to get yourself in trouble!” but those people are comfort addicts. Let me make it clear that I don’t approach these bullies and I don’t verbally engage them. I simply stand there and watch. You know how they say dogs can sense fear? People are similar, they can sense when someone has no fear. And it scares the shit out of them. Remember that next time someone threatens you. Remember that “people lie.” Being afraid will only feed the monster. If you simply stand your ground and give them nothing, it forces *them* to act, not react. And that’s something bullies just don’t like to do: think and act on their own.

True story.
