No Friends of Mine

21 Dec

No Friends of Mine

“All or nothing” isn’t a
Mentality I use
“Shades of grey” is what I see
Instead of “black/white” views

No one’s perfect, people lie
They get mad and spout off
In instances where tact is needed
Some will laugh or scoff

It doesn’t make them bad people
I try to keep in mind
That there is also good in them
If I venture to find

But one thing I am adamant
About is Jesus Christ
My absolute demand for awe
And respect is high priced

Even for the ones who don’t
Believe He is divine
I still expect them to see how
In darkness He does shine

Even if they are themselves
An “all or nothing” type
That disregards the whole Bible
As made-up lies and tripe

I still expect them to see how
This long-haired, bearded Jew
Showed only grace and patience at
Everything haters threw

To mock a man who challenged all
To show love, courage, grace
Selflessness and empathy
In this cynical place

Shows me how that person does not
Think anything’s revered
They act as spoilers who try
To ruin all that’s cheered

Haters who see others who
Draw inspiration from
A shining light that says, “Let go”
They scoff and crack, “How dumb!”

I love my friends with all my heart
But those who mock my King
Reveal an ugly side to them
At grace, they simply fling

Disrespect and ignorance
While claiming, “He starts wars!”
But here’s a little, simple fact
The accuser ignores:

They’ve never met a single person
Who killed in the name
Of Jesus Christ or the Bible
Yet ALL must take the blame

The grace and courage is ignored
The patience for their hate
The tolerance that’s shown when most
Would rather be irate

To be a Warrior means to
Do things that are quite tough
And so to those who slag Jesus
Sadly I must rebuff

Because they are no friends of mine
They might as well insult
My mother or my wife or niece
It’s all the same result

They’re innocent and did nothing
To draw such scornful wrath
Same as Jesus Christ, so we
Must walk a different path

Goodbye, so long, it’s been a blast
Perhaps we’ll meet again
Hopefully you’ve gained respect
And empathy by then

To Mock A King

11 Feb

To Mock A King

Anyone can mock a man
And yes, most people do
Even without realizing
With their flippant spew

Anyone can mock a leader
Someone who tries hard
But often fails because they are
By their followers marred

Anyone can mock a God
Since most just can’t conceive
A being that’s far greater than
They are, they can’t believe

But there is a rare breed that can
Willingly mock a King
As a servant of one, I can’t
Think a sadder thing

My own King is one who receives
A lot of foolish mocking
I hear His name said as a swear
While I hear people talking

I hear the ignorant make fun
Without giving a thought
Of what this King did sacrifice
And lessons that He taught

They laugh and think this long-haired
Bearded King is so inane
They do not stop to think about
The suffering and pain

They show no thought of the message
Of love that He did guide
They disregard the grace He kept
Moments before He died

It takes a very unique person
To mock this great King
To make dumb jokes, to throw insults
To laugh and insults fling

It takes one that’s oblivious
To sacrificing all
To give everything of yourself to
Answer a higher call

It takes someone who does not see
Does not appreciate
A person who’s mission in life
Was to reduce the hate

Keep this fact in mind next time
You hear these people mock
Don’t just stand by silently
Don’t turn around and walk

Say things as you see them and
Remind them, tell them of
The life and mission of that King
His purpose: spreading love

Tell them that to mock a King
Takes very little class
Tell them when one mocks a King
It’s mocker who’s the ass

Tell them that they mock because
They feel they have low worth
Tell them that we must have something
Sacred on this Earth

To mock another is a sign
Of weakness and of fear
It’s one thing to mock family
A friend or mock a peer

But when one mocks a King I say
There is no greater shame
A revelation that they won’t
Give anyone acclaim

Why Would You?

16 Dec

Why Would You?

Why would anyone attempt
To make fun of the Lord?
Who would try to belittle
A being so adored?

What does it say about the
Person who pokes their fun?
Who disrespects and shows contempt
For the Lord’s only son?

Why would anyone tear down
A symbol of such grace
A source of inspiration in
This dark and selfish place?

Why would someone berate one
As wise as Buddha was?
Is the only reason that
It’s simply what one does

When they come in contact with
Religion not their own?
Don’t they realize that faith
Goes deeper than the bone?

That when they trash talk Islam or
Talk bad of about the Jews
The Hindus, Taoists, or Shamans
They’re showing that their views

Are disrespectful to the soul
Because faith is a line
You do not cross when making jokes
It is how we define

Ourselves in everything we do
Our source of endless hope
A person’s faith is often what
Makes them able to cope

So everyone that cracks their jokes
With “harmless blasphemy”
Regardless of what God you follow
Or if you’re faith-free

Choose your words quite carefully
And with your steps be cautious
‘Cause jokes you think are so funny
Might make the faithful nauseous

And think about what’s causing you
To make light of what drives
So many to live peaceful
Loving and selfless lives
