Warrior’s Prayer

12 Feb

Warrior’s Prayer

The common routine
When one goes to pray
Is to get down on knees
And in one spot stay

Clasp hands together
Keep eyes closed tight
In an attempt
To not see the plight

That may work just fine
If you wish to give praise
But most don’t give prayer
Until darkest days

And when the storm comes
I’ve found it works best
To not just curl up
And beg to be blessed

And that’s a main problem
With people who follow
If you beg for a break
Then your prayers are just hollow

The point’s not to live
The easiest life
It’s to build up the strength
To endure the strife

When hardships befall
Don’t beg for an end
Get up while you pray
For the strength to transcend

Open your eyes
As you ask for resolve
And accept that motion
Is the key to evolve

Although this concept
To a few may appall
A prayer on your knees
Will do no good at all

It’s been my experience
When times are their worst
The best start to prayer
Is to get up first

One foot then the other
Keep myself moving
To God above
And to myself proving

I’m not looking for lenience
I’m not begging for pity
I know parts of life
Are not going to be pretty

I pray to the Father
For strength added on
To what’s already in me
To my own employed brawn

Upgrade my power
And my fortitude, raise
Enhance my patience
Amid all the craze

In the book of Isaiah
Forty-one: ten
“I will strengthen and help you”
The Lord said, amen

But strength will not do you
Much good at all
If you’re hidden away
Curled up in a ball

The warrior’s way
Is to charge with no fear
And the warrior’s prayer
Is made in high gear

Join the Flock!

Join the Flock!

“Join the flock!” the Christians plead, “we love you and do care!”
“Join our little clique and join in worship and in prayer!”
Friends and family have all offered this kind invite
They all seem driven to recruit more ranks to what is “right”

No thank you, I’ve been in the club and know what is involved
I do recall how not one challenge under Christ was solved
I do recall the fear, the dread, the stress, the angst, the pain
Both in myself as well as others with Christ on the brain

For many years I have now walked the path of Warriors
Believe or don’t, I know MY truth: no worry now occurs
No stress lingers upon my brain when desire’s unmet
No dread befalls when “problems” come, I don’t “have to,” I “get”

I get to face my challenges with vigor and resolve
I get to conquer fires which don’t burn me, they evolve
I get to rely on my will, my strength, my courage, daring
No longer do I wait on Christ’s deaf ears, waiting and staring

No longer do I leave things in “God’s hands” like some weak whelp
No longer do I look past my own mighty hand for help
And no more do I tolerate the invite of Christ’s sheep
Who try to “save” this Warrior while they all stress and weep

Who offer keys to God’s kingdom while fretting over bills
Who claim to know the “right way” but are fat from their weak wills
Who worry what the future holds despite the Bible’s chimes
To FEAR NOT as per God three hundred and sixty-five times

Thanks, but no thanks, not my style, and some day you will see
That deity you praise and worship’s a Warrior like me
You’ve been polluted by your ego’s desire to “win”
Rather than choose empathy, you fear and call things “sin”

You get upset in name of God and claim you’re beckoned to
You have the ignorance to claim each Muslim, Hindu, Jew
Will “burn in hell” simply because they do not wear a cross
How misguided to think that fashion sense will prevent loss

How misguided to think that sitting in a pew each week
And listening but not FEELING the words will stop the bleak
How simple minded and obtuse to offer this invite
While crying, “Only human!” while you fear through every plight

Just as Alexander sliced through the Gordian knot
This Warrior does slice through that invite to fear and fraught
Laughable, that invite is, and it just goes to show
That misery loves company and I’ve had enough woe

I do not offer an invite to walk the Warrior’s path
Because I know they can’t withstand their own iron will’s wrath
So pray and beg and fear on but don’t save a spot for me
I once was lost and blinded to my OWN strength, now I see

No heaven’s needed, and no flock, no shepherd, no salvation
By weak-willed hypocrites who waste the present on frustration
A Warrior is just fine on their own without such tripe
Kneeling down with both hands clasped? No thanks, I’m not the type

Selective Righteousness

Many speak up when they’re asked about their views on gays
The sheep recite the Bible verses that they seem to praise
They talk about how God has said that being gay is wrong
They say it’s written, black and white and so they feel quite strong
But also there in black and white it says to love all those
Who you consider “enemy,’ to love all who oppose
It also says in black and white to not be jealous of
What your neighbor has amassed, instead, to show them love
In black and white it says forgive and walk the extra mile
It says to not allow anything to upset or rile
It says “Fear not, for I’m with you” and yet those who oppose
Homosexuality ignore much of this prose
Selective righteousness, they pick and choose what comes with ease
They passionately stand by scripture that the herd does please
But anything that comes with effort, pain or sacrifice
Swallowing of pride or ego simply won’t suffice
And so the Christians who think “gay” is wrong will honk their horns
In traffic when another driver frustrates them or scorns
They’ll see a comrade’s gain as something they wish was for them
They’ll say “So happy for you” while inside they just condemn
They’ll claim to follow “Prince of Peace” but try to shatter love
That one man has for another in name of Lord above
They’ll look on two women who love each other with pure hearts
And all they’ll see’s anatomy, the human private parts
They see not souls and spirits, just the vessels which expire
They do not realize within is energy much higher
They’re prisoners of dying flesh, to bones that bend and break
And they are terrified of those who are now wide awake
They’re threatened by the ones who see above, beyond, more deep
Because they followed their hearts and no longer act like sheep
For those that pick and choose by what is easiest to follow
This Warrior has something bitter that you must now swallow:
Your Prince of Peace, your King of Kings preached to just let it go
And He would be ashamed of you to see the grief and woe
That you spread with your ignorance, your lack of sight and feel
Your inability to recognize a love that’s real
Go ahead and pick and chose what will test you the least
Keep following just the scripture spouted by your priest
Immerse yourself in just what works for sake of ease and pleasure
Follow just the lines that come with no effort, just leisure
But one day death will come for you and it will all make sense
The fading of your mortal body makes the truth intense
And you will come to see how silly it was to judge those
Who simply had same genitals underneath all their clothes

Self Righteous

Self Righteous

The old fool clutches his bible
And claims it’s filled with truth
He shouts into his megaphone
His behaviour: uncouth

He’s blind to all the history
And present that surrounds
His mind is closed and limited
And just knows paper’s bounds

His whole identity is based
On what a bible writes
And anything that deviates
Will always lead to fights

How sad and tragic to waste life
Shackled to just one book
To never have the courage to
Explore, question and look

How sad to accept every word
As being “Straight from God!”
And never wondering if man
Who’s egoic and flawed

Could possibly have let seep in
Some selfishness and greed
Some lack of understanding, lack
Of empathy, some greed

How sad to take their word for it
To trust “Powers that Be”
Who manipulate the masses with
Heaven’s sweet guarantee

The old fool thinks because he’s read
The book his parents gave
And shut out everything else that
He’s caring, wise and brave

But all I see’s a coward who
Just went along with hate
Who never dared to understand
Instead became irate

Who pointed fingers and who claimed
To know what’s “right for all”
And when a Warrior did disagree
They’d bitch and bawl

When a Warrior would state
That not all’s as it seems
This self righteous old fool angers
Interrupts, snaps and screams

“Damn you to hell!” these pious types
Cast judgement upon those
Who choose not think black or white
And won’t let their minds close

Yes hell, that scary, made-up place
Where all who disagree
Will burn in pain and suffering
For all eternity

Many of my poetry
Is written for my kin:
Warriors who know the point
Of life is not to “win”

Nor is it to be “proven right”
And bask in victory
Understanding is my cause
Connection, empathy

And so here is my understanding
Of self-righteous fools:
Do not waste your time on them
And their close-minded rules

They’re just old children who did not
Grow up because they chose
To limit themselves to one book
And its primitive prose

Instead of using life as chance
To experience first hand
To feel, to see, to touch, to smell
To relate, understand

Be wary of these old fools who
Clutch bibles to their chest
They’re frightened little children who are
Far from being blessed

More often than not, the grace
And light of God does not
Radiate within them, they are
Filled with angst and fraught

While Warriors have shed all books
And trinkets ‘cause they know
Experience first-hand is what
Casts off wisdom’s true glow

TBH

TBH

The young people today
Began a little saying
“TBH” implies
That honesty’s displaying

It stands for “To Be Honest”
And when they do begin
A sentence with those letters
The rest is truth within

I do admire these kids
Who see a world of lies
Who see the older folks
Who should be much more wise

But guard their true feelings
And put up their fake walls
‘Cause they don’t have the courage
‘Cause they don’t have the balls

To air their greivances
To express gratitude
To tell loved ones they’re loved
To not be such a shrewd

So in honor of these kids
Who TBH with heart
Let me TBH
So that I do my part

TBH I love
My brave and caring wife
Who is the grace and beauty
And strength within my life

TBH I’m proud
Of Warriors who read
These chronicles and say
It makes their fear recede

TBH I lack
Affection and respect
For Christians who fail to
Keep selfish ego checked

TBH I don’t
Fear my Lord up above
Though Bible says I should
I have no fear, just love

TBH I won’t
Let cowards spout their fear
TBH I don’t
Care what naysayers jeer

TBH I’m done
With people who don’t try
To go the extra mile
Who their own strength deny

TBH I tell
All Warriors I meet
That I have great respect
Because they are elite

TBH I’m thankful
You took the time to read
TBH I hope
You travel with Godspeed

And Warriorspeed as well
But TBH just one
In one hundred are capable
Of maintaining that run

Jesus Walked

6 Mar

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” ~Jesus Christ

Jesus Walked

I’ve never been too keen on going
To a single place
Every single week to pray
And worship the Lord’s grace

Churches have just always seemed
A bit monotonous
A bit too easy, too familiar
And too little fuss

I started thinking about how
The Savior didn’t go
To the same building each week
To make His parish grow

Jesus walked and came to those
Who needed strength and hope
Jesus walked to heal the sick
And help downtrodden cope

Jesus walked and didn’t have
A set weekly routine
Jesus walked which kept His legs
As well as His faith lean

Explore, venture, get off the beaten
Path you always travel
Forgo the comfortable paved roads
And set out on the gravel

Walk out of your comfort zone
And change, adapt, discover
Only when you look in new
Places will you uncover

New people, new challenges
New things to overcome
Enliven all those senses which
Have grown tired and numb

Follow in the footsteps of
The Savior and start walking
You weren’t meant to simply sit
And listen to some talking

If you’re blessed with legs then walk
And put your faith in motion
Sitting and listening doesn’t
Take any devotion

Don’t just hark on what Christ said
Take heed of what He did
Jesus never stayed put and
He surely never hid

Think about it next time you
Get in your car and drive
Down to church, just ask yourself
“Is this how people thrive?”

Maybe you’d be better off
To stretch your legs instead
And put to use all the things in
The Bible you have read
