Critics

critic

“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, BE NOTHING.”
― Aristotle

The price you pay for having your creative voice be heard or creative vision be seen is having to hear the criticism of people who don’t have the courage or fortitude to put themselves on display for all to nitpick.

I find such “critics” to almost never employ any kind of balance in their critiques. They gleefully and snidely pick apart every so-called flaw, and yet rarely show any kind of balance by expressing passion or exuberance for what was done WELL.

Let the following phrase be your shield against any hater or critic who tries to steal your joy away: “Now say something encouraging.” I guaran-damn-tee you if you pay close attention, most of the time they won’t light up with excitement as they talk about the silver lining or saving grace of your creation.

And that, my friends, is what a true critic is; an imbalance. Everything in, nothing out (except negativity). A cowardly, hateful, selfish creature that’s only here to act as a parasite. Don’t you dare allow anybody to ever discourage you from putting something out there for fear that “they” won’t like it. Just remember: “they” don’t like anything, and nothing you can ever do will change that. I’ve posted hundreds of writings in spite of the few critics who tried to discourage me. They will never discourage me from being creative, and they should never discourage you either.

Make a great weekend,

Owning It

“It is wrong and immoral to seek to escape the consequences of one’s acts.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
balance
Owning It

Balance is the pinnacle
The highest we can reach
Imbalance causes everyone
To moan and cry and screech

Imbalance of owning just joy
But when struggle appears
Saying “No thank you!” and running
Away from their fears

Peace through balance, symmetry
Light and dark on both sides
Enjoying calm, low waters and
Reveling in high tides

Where this is of most importance
Is owning what you’ve done
When great accomplishment is made
Your efforts, do not shun

They’ll warn you to be modest and
Be humble, show reserve
A WARRIOR BEATS CHEST AND SHOWS
INTENSITY AND VERVE
A Warrior knows there are few
Who will see all the work
That was expended and don’t care
If they seem like a jerk

For boldly saying, “I tried harder
And I would not quit
And if you think that’s arrogant
Well, I don’t give a shit!”

And on the other side of things
For balance to exist
When Warriors fail miserably
It is never dismissed

The Warrior will own that too
“I did the best I could
I came up short, apologies
I know will do no good

Instead of saying ‘sorry’ I
Will try harder next time
I own every accomplishment
And I own every crime”

To own a failure will befuddle
Most who just avoid
They know not of the confidence
That won’t leave you annoyed

Whenever things don’t go as planned
To own a great defeat?
To not make any excuses
And still on chest to beat?

To boldly proclaim, “Yes, I failed!
I own it, it is mine!
No sorries or excuses
A Warrior won’t whine!”

No life can be perfect and
No one can escape loss
Peace is not an upward line
Instead, it’s straight across

Good with bad, struggle with ease
Discomfort with pleasure
The ones most miserable are those
Who only want leisure

They only want to own the ‘nice’
And balk at what is hard
The Warrior embraces bliss
As well as being scarred

The Warrior’s symmetrical
A being in the middle
To other Warriors, a light
And to normals, a riddle

Code of Bushidō: Rectitude (Gi)

25 Apr

Code of Bushidō: Rectitude (Gi)

The first virtue of Bushidō
Is Rectitude which means
Justice taken into all
Of your daily routines

“Just what is right?” some folks will ask
“What makes you think you know?”
“Who are you to think you can
Enlighten us and show?”

The answer is I’m just like you
And we all know deep down
The difference between right and wrong
Though some do try to drown

The voice that tells us what is right
The conscience deep within
The truth that keeps us from shortcuts
And leads to our chagrin

Therein lies the key factor
Behind true rectitude:
It’s when choices that are not
Popular are pursued

It’s when everyone else cheats
And scams and lies and steals
And you refuse to go along
And sacrifice ideals

It’s when you decide to stand
Apart from everyone
Be labeled as “pious” as
They all insult and shun

It’s when you don’t think just of
Your own comfort and gain
It’s when you don’t focus on
All that you can attain

It’s when balance, fairness and
Equality are more
Important than all of the nice
Trinkets that you can score

Without it, all your talent and
Learning will do no good
Unless the virtue of justice
Is fully understood

Making the decision that
Is not the easy one
The one that is not popular
The one that is not fun

It may elicit much unrest
And grievance from the crowd
But warriors can’t hear them ‘cause
Combined they’re not as loud

As the voice that’s deep within
Demanding rectitude
A warrior cannot ignore
That voice and can’t elude

A warrior is confident
And never loses face
As long as rectitude is something
They fully embrace
