Patience

23 Feb

Patience

Patience isn’t something that
You can flip off and on
It can’t be gained with intellect
And can’t be forced with brawn

You can’t use complex formulas
In order to be calm
Logic doesn’t help that much
When folks aren’t in your palm

And muscle won’t change someone’s mind
When they refuse to hear
Instead of building up patience
You’re just instilling fear

So then the question begs to ask
“Just how does one keep cool?
How can I be more patient
Instead of act the fool?”

The answer comes in knowing that
Nothing is instantly
The cost is not with brains or brawn
But time that is the fee

I know that you will likely say,
“I haven’t got the time!”
Because you’re busy focused on
Your own successful climb

But that’s exactly where you’re wrong
So maybe it will aid
To think about it in this way
Of what your time is made

Time’s too big a concept for
People to comprehend
So break it down in smaller parts
To moments that append

You may not have the time to deal
With some kind of distress
But you can spare a moment to
Clean up a person’s mess

No one has the time to put up
With a person’s slip
But give a moment and you’ll see
Your patience start to grip

It may be hard to wait for someone
To get back to you
But give one moment and one more
The more that you accrue

Is directly related
To patience you amass
Benching moments just like weights
And building up your class

So next time someone does you wrong
Or tries to pass the buck
Don’t let yourself get all upset
And start to run amok

Take a moment from your stock
Of time you have to use
‘Cause that’s the price that patience costs
So have you paid your dues?

Distance

25 Nov

Distance

To deal with something that takes toll
To overcome and take control
Takes distance but not in the way you’d think

It’s not about the miles moved
Creative distance is what’s soothed
So many who have been pushed to their brink

Moving physically won’t do
Much good if your mind still does stew
Over the thing that threatens all your peace

And so that mind you must coerce
In creativity imerse
Yourself and soon your struggle will then cease

Create! Create! Do anything!
A painting! Writing! Sculpture! Sing!
Will something new into reality

Creative distance, every day
And soon you’ll see how far away
The bullshit is that made you take a knee

Get over yourself and stand tall
(Even if at first you crawl)
In time your creativity will trek

The distance that will show quite clear
What caused you stress and pain and fear
Is now just a distant and silly speck

You’ll Have To Kill Me

18 Sep
You’ll Have To Kill Me

There was a Warrior named Peace
The irony was grand
Other’s threats would not surcease
Fore he would take a stand

There would be those who’d warn of pain
But Peace said, “Not enough
Unless it’s death, it’s all in vain”
He’d boldly call their bluff

“Financial ruin!” some would crow
But Peace would then retort
“While I still breathe there is no woe”
Those threats young Peace would thwart

Time and time again they’d try
To strike fear in his soul
But Peace would never quake or cry
He’d dare a tougher goal

“You’ll have to kill me” he would give
A warning of his own
“You’ll win when I no longer live
When I am dust and bone”

And this is how young Peace did learn
That cowards don’t spill blood
They do not fight or cut or burn
Each threat is just a dud

Words used to intimidate
The comfort-addled weak
Quick to threaten, scold, berate
And dishearten the meek

But when a Warrior does raise
The stakes to death and life
These threateners are in a daze
So few unsheathe their knife

What they desire has low cost
They’re unwilling to pay
The price of fury and exhaust
To get their selfish way

Times have changed and very few
Are called to pay that price
They’ll use just words to threaten you
But never will they slice

They’ll talk and talk but never pound
They’ll urge but never slit
In idle threats no one has drowned
At least, no one with grit

The Myth of Multitasking: How Phones Destroy Focus

Join the Flock!

Join the Flock!

“Join the flock!” the Christians plead, “we love you and do care!”
“Join our little clique and join in worship and in prayer!”
Friends and family have all offered this kind invite
They all seem driven to recruit more ranks to what is “right”

No thank you, I’ve been in the club and know what is involved
I do recall how not one challenge under Christ was solved
I do recall the fear, the dread, the stress, the angst, the pain
Both in myself as well as others with Christ on the brain

For many years I have now walked the path of Warriors
Believe or don’t, I know MY truth: no worry now occurs
No stress lingers upon my brain when desire’s unmet
No dread befalls when “problems” come, I don’t “have to,” I “get”

I get to face my challenges with vigor and resolve
I get to conquer fires which don’t burn me, they evolve
I get to rely on my will, my strength, my courage, daring
No longer do I wait on Christ’s deaf ears, waiting and staring

No longer do I leave things in “God’s hands” like some weak whelp
No longer do I look past my own mighty hand for help
And no more do I tolerate the invite of Christ’s sheep
Who try to “save” this Warrior while they all stress and weep

Who offer keys to God’s kingdom while fretting over bills
Who claim to know the “right way” but are fat from their weak wills
Who worry what the future holds despite the Bible’s chimes
To FEAR NOT as per God three hundred and sixty-five times

Thanks, but no thanks, not my style, and some day you will see
That deity you praise and worship’s a Warrior like me
You’ve been polluted by your ego’s desire to “win”
Rather than choose empathy, you fear and call things “sin”

You get upset in name of God and claim you’re beckoned to
You have the ignorance to claim each Muslim, Hindu, Jew
Will “burn in hell” simply because they do not wear a cross
How misguided to think that fashion sense will prevent loss

How misguided to think that sitting in a pew each week
And listening but not FEELING the words will stop the bleak
How simple minded and obtuse to offer this invite
While crying, “Only human!” while you fear through every plight

Just as Alexander sliced through the Gordian knot
This Warrior does slice through that invite to fear and fraught
Laughable, that invite is, and it just goes to show
That misery loves company and I’ve had enough woe

I do not offer an invite to walk the Warrior’s path
Because I know they can’t withstand their own iron will’s wrath
So pray and beg and fear on but don’t save a spot for me
I once was lost and blinded to my OWN strength, now I see

No heaven’s needed, and no flock, no shepherd, no salvation
By weak-willed hypocrites who waste the present on frustration
A Warrior is just fine on their own without such tripe
Kneeling down with both hands clasped? No thanks, I’m not the type

The Riddle of Fear

The Riddle of Fear

What has no hands but grips you tight and squeezes out your grit?
What whispers warnings in your ear and makes you lose all wit?
What has no fangs yet bites down hard and causes valor’s bleed?
What makes the indomitable spirit of man concede?

What has no form yet plagues your dreams at night and robs your sleep?
What cannot possess anything yet never stops to reap?
What tells you it cannot be done yet can’t bear any weight?
What dwells within your ponderings yet cannot contemplate?

What is the simplest foe to quell yet costs the highest fare?
What tangles men throughout their lives despite its brittle snare?
What keeps you on your knees and loyal, captive, victim, slave?
What only withdraws its cold grip moments before the grave?

What wastes a life and spawns regret and anguish, grief, concern?
What stifles your desires all life long, then makes you yearn?
What cruel and callous King rules over all the meek and frail?
What has no blade yet does behead and bludgeon and impale?
