Complete

She sees him saunter by
She gives out a soft sigh
She wishes that he felt the same
About her, that an equal flame
That burned for her as she has for this guy

But he is just polite
Near her he feels no fright
He simply smiles and is quite nice
But he does not feel the same vice
That grips her when she is around this knight

He leaves and she’s left feeling
Incomplete and revealing
Like something’s missing in her life
She thinks if she becomes his wife
That she will undergo some soulful healing

And that is what is wrong
With all of those who long
And pine and crush and fantasize
For someone beautiful and wise
To “complete” them, they do not see how strong

And beautiful and wise
They are without allies
Complete already on their own
Complete with just their skin and bone
Complete without those relationship ties

A partner, spouse or mate
A bride, groom, or a date
May compliment and benefit
But one day we must all admit
To be complete on our own is our fate

People may come and go
Loved ones buried below
But no matter who may be around
“Completeness” will never be found
Because no other person can bestow

Completeness since it’s there
We’re complete if we dare
To not rely on others to
Make us feel complete, happy, new
There’s no need for dreaming, wishes and prayer

One day this girl admits
Accepts, concedes, permits
Herself to feel complete alone
Which changes her once needy tone
To confident, content and plenty wits

Her old crush does return
But old flame does not burn
She no longer needs him to be
The missing piece to set her free
For him no longer does she pine and yearn

He notices her now
Intense gaze on her brow
A confidence so few possess
He steps toward her to assess
And sees someone who has a complete glow

And it makes him feel small
He feels his courage stall
He sees how content this girl seems
And so the young man smiles and beams
And wants to know more ‘cause she does enthrall

He asks her for a date
“Pick you up at 8?”
She smiles and shakes her head at him
“I’ll be working out at the gym
Maybe some other time, for now you’ll wait”

He blinks and is confused
His massive ego bruised
Incomplete because she turned
Him down and his offer was spurned
He can’t recall when last he was refused

And he begins his own
Journey to what she’s known
That completeness does not depend
On family, stranger or friend
Just on the person there when you’re alone

Beautifully spun to full circle… 🙂 we all think to seek externally to seek to make ourselves complete, and yet it is to the mirror we should look, as we peel away the layers to look beneath as we learn to love that which we are … For we have always been complete, but have lost ourselves along our journey of seeking ‘things’ to fill the void of lack of self love..

It’s okay to use “complete” “figuratively”, but “literally”, is not healthy…this line says it all: To be complete on our own is our fate.

Wonderfully written with a wise message..have a great weekend! Lauren

    Smartly put..
Well feeling a whole is a reality we & only we create in our minds; in trusting it, “Feeling” turns to Being”..
