Identity

30 May

“We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Saints or sex addicts. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it’s our job to invent something better.” ~Chuck Palahniuk

Identity

I’m not the colour of my skin
I’m not where my body has been
I’m not identified by where
I was born and first tasted air

I’m not whatever team I cheer
I’m not my favourite kind of beer
I’m not straight, bi-sexual, gay
I’m not to which God I do pray

None of these identify
As clearly as my battle cry:
“I am a Warrior,” no more
No less, just one who goes to war

I do battle with fear and pain
And constantly do learn and train
Where others run for comfort, I
Rise to the challenge and rely

On courage, strength, resolve and grace
Identity I do not chase
I’m not my look or where I live
I am defined by what I give

And that is everything I’ve got
And that can’t be stolen or bought
It can’t be given, only earned
By being hammered, ripped and burned

So how are you identified?
Was it your choice? Did you decide?
Or was it simply told to you
And no other did you pursue?

Amazing post Miro. We are identified by our innermost feelings. 🙂 🙂

Thanks! Here’s to all who recognize those feelings and have the courage to say “This is me.”

Very, very strong words of enouragement here for those of us defining ourselves with God’s help, no matter what!

I always read your posts the day you publish, but was not logged in to leave my appreciation at the time.
Another great one. It’s a talent to say so much in seven stanzas.

I’m a big believer in serendipity, Miro. However, I admit I was surprised when I realized how much this fit the theme of my day today. Thank you.

Very true, we are not the labels we are given, or the ones we wear on our career badges.~Sue
