The Four Stanza Life of Joe Careful

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” ~Proverb

The Four Stanza Life of Joe Careful

There was a guy named Joe Careful
Who never took a risk
Who never pulled a muscle and
Who never slipped a disc

Who never asked a pretty girl
To meet him for a drink
Who never said much ‘cause he feared
What other people think

Who never tried anything new
For fear that he would fail
Who never dared to venture off
The easy, beaten trail

And that is why Joe Careful’s life
Is just four stanzas long
If only he’d taken more risks
This rhyme might be more strong

    Very beautiful poem…and insightful!
I don’t want to be like Joe Careful!

If Peter had never taken a risk he’d never have walked on water. The other 11 couldn’t make that claim. Great post! Mike

Oh, I love this one, too, Miro…remaining in the comfort zone leaves no room for adventure and new possibilities. Your last stanza is a perfect ending! xx

Miro, this poem is very amusing, sad, profound and masterfully formed–all at the same time! I know so many people in this small Southern town like this. I feel so sad at all the joys they are denying themselves through being so very “careful”!
