The 1-in-100 Warrior Award

18 Feb

“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.” ~Heraclitus

When we hear the word “warrior,” many think of simply the sword. Hardness and cold resolve. The reason for the symbol of the 1-in-100 Warrior Award having both the sword and the feather is because warriors are beautiful too. They’re elegant. They’re graceful. They exude a calming peace and warmth. They are radiant.

One of my mentors, Elbert Hubbard, once wrote a prayer that perfectly describes what a warrior is to me:

“The supreme prayer of my heart is not to be learned, rich, famous, powerful, or “good,” but simply to be radiant. I desire to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage and good will. I wish to live without hate, whim, jealousy, envy, fear. I wish to be simple, honest, frank, natural, clean in mind and clean in body, unaffected–ready to say “I do not know,” if it be so, and to meet all men on an absolute equality–to face any obstacle and meet every difficulty unabashed and unafraid.

I wish others to live their lives, too–up to their highest, fullest and best. To that end I pray that I may never meddle, interfere, dictate, give advice that is not wanted, or assist when my services are not needed. If I can help people, I’ll do it by giving them a chance to help themselves; and if I can uplift or inspire, let it be by example, inference, and suggestion, rather than by injunction and dictation. That is to say, I desire to be radiant–to radiate life.”

It’s my honor to give the 1-in-100 Warrior Award to a beautiful and radiant warrior: Sue Dreamwalker. Her writings exude warmth, hope, patience, love and strength.  I speak often of the truth that we all have inside of us. Sue hears it. She listens to it. She follows it. She “gets it.” We often hear that “knowledge is knowing, wisdom is doing,” and so many are merely knowledgeable but not wise because it takes too much effort to live that truth. Sue is one of the few that listens and then lives it. When someone is radiant, as described in Hubbard’s prayer, it is undeniable. She’s 1-in-100, and we are lucky to have her:

Guidelines for the 1-in-100 Warrior Award: To acknowledge and honor the rarity of the warrior, it is recommended that the recipient passes this award on to only *one* other blogger that they feel goes above and beyond to serve and inspire others, and who maintains their grace and positivity even in the face of difficult challenges, such as health issues, tragedy, injustice or loss.

Once an author is given the award, they may continue nominating one new blog author once a week, month, year… or whatever seems appropriate. It’s like a knight’s ability to bestow knighthood onto another whenever they choose. But only one at a time. The patience of a warrior is required.
