Not A Number

12 Dec

Not A Number

You are not a number, you’re not
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Not 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10
From these you don’t derive

You are not a status sheet
That tracks your daily progress
Showing less than one hundred
Per cent which causes stress

You are not a series of
Numbers in a computer
On a card or ID badge
Or truck or car or scooter

You are not the number that
Your age happens to be
You’re not defined by passing years
But by what you decree

You are defined by what you say
And by the things you do
Every day in that moment
Shows others what is true

The ones that want to keep things clean
And simple and distant
Will label them with numbers so that
They are consistent

They do not want to deal with things
Like unsure uniqueness
So individuality
Is something they suppress

With sterile, bland numbers that don’t
Take heart into account
All the numbers in the world
Are not the same amount

As looking closer, understanding
Delving, pondering
Seeking harder for knowledge
Exploring, wandering

Numbers are a short cut to
Make things more simple, clean
And that’s why warriors find them
So lazy and obscene

The scholars and philosophers
And warriors of old
Were not concerned with data which
Influenced and controlled

They used their eyes, their ears and most
Importantly, their hearts
To make their wise decisions, not
Reports, graphs, and flow charts

Most importantly their hearts… True. We all need to learn this, by heart…

    Thank you. 🙂

      Definitely not a “by-the-numbers” concept. 🙂
      Peace & grace,

Let us enourage all to once again practice the ancient wisdom of deciding with our hearts. Loved the bargraph at the beginning. Thank goodness they cannot “scan” my heart readings at Wal-Mart!

Thanks! That would be interesting, having your heart scanned. Perhaps it would lead to less arguments. Then again, perhaps more. 🙂

How very true! So often, I feel like my SS number is as much a part of me as my own name, and I know I’m guilty of viewing others similarly. We are all humans…and a true warrior views others as such.

A Terry Goodkind quote comes to mind. “Mind what people do, not just what they say, for deeds will betray a lie.” Have you read any of his books? Methinks you would like them.

I haven’t read any Terry Goodkind but I’ll have to make an effort to check out some of his work. He sounds very wise. 🙂

His books are a huge time commitment (13 books, averaging 800 pages), but they are well worth it. The nice thing about them is that he doesn’t write in cliffhangers in all but two, so you can read one and then move on to other things before coming back.

Our heart is our greatest guide. We have only to listen to the whispers. I am NOT a number indeed. I am the purity, grace, elegance and truth of my heart. xo

Hehe…guessing you’re not an accountant. Sorry, my wicked brain took over and typed this in before I could stop it 🙂
“Sterile bland numbers” that says it all. 🙂
    Thanks Miro!
