Used To Be

Used To Be

Anything that you wish to
Improve about yourself
Whether it’s your attitude
Your bank account or health

Can be changed if you only start
To look at it this way:
“I used to be like that but now
Today is a new day”

If you’d only adapt this
Real simple way of thinking
To put your habits in the past
And from yourself unlinking

And say “I used to be angry”
Or “I used to be broke”
“I used to have a weight problem”
“I used to drink or smoke”

If you would just untie yourself
From how you have defined
If you would make it in past tense
And leave it all behind

Then one day soon you will look back
To recognize and see
That things you wished to change are now
The things you used to be

Great poem! And with very possitive message 🙂
We are prisoners of our fears. I “used to be” afraid of driving car. I didn’t do it since many years. I broke my fear 3 weeks ago. I’m driving terribly after so long break, but I’m driving. And I like it 🙂

I absolutely loved this; what a wonderful message, beautifully written and the last 2 paragraphs are perfect:

If you would just untie yourself
    From how you have defined
If you would make it in past tense
    And leave it all behind

Then one day soon you will look back
    To recognize and see
That things you wished to change are now
The things you used to be

Thanks for sharing this positivity! 🙂

Wow, that is a new way to detach yourself from your bad habits and adapt new thoughts and living ways which you so much want to see yourself into.

Thank you. Really great poem! 🙂

I agree with “lscotthoughts”, amazingly beautiful lines.

Warrior, you indeed know how to “fight the good fight, run the good race.” Just this morning I woke up already meditating on how I was learning to let go of regrets I have had over past relationships, past jobs, past states of health, etc. And here your post was waiting for me, unlocking the last “click” on those handcuffs of regrets! Thank you is SO weak in this circumstance!
