Love Is…

tiger

Love Is…

Love is second nature
Love Is reflex, love’s innate
No struggle or effort needed
To care for your mate

Love obliterates ego
To point where there’s no “I”
Love for someone else bids that
Selfish ego goodbye

Love is instinct, built within
Our blood and DNA
Love does not need to “cool down”
True love has no delay

We see it in our animals
In how they care for young
Inherent duty to protect
The small lives which have sprung

We see it in the packs that travel
Together in wild
Loyalty for each other
Even the beasts reviled

But true love is so rare among
The human race it seems
A concept that only exists
Within most people’s dreams

Because the human mind is shackled
With such selfishness
Fear of hurt, embarrassment
Of having to confess

Their true love for another
Worry seeps in and corrupts
Choking the life out of love
As the ego erupts

Love is never angry and
Love is never hostile
‘Cause love is made of empathy
And ‘cause love walks a mile

In the loved one’s shoes and love
Lets go of own opinion
Love is not a slave to fear
And is not ego’s minion

Love is brave and bold and love
Makes no apologies
Love envigors, love strengthens
Love heals, love tames, love frees

From “me,” from “I,” from “myself” and
It opens selfish eyes
To smallness of the ego while
It makes the spirit rise

Happy Birthday Sweetness

sweetness

Happy Birthday Sweetness

Happy Birthday to Sweetness
My loving, graceful wife
The most wonderful person to
Ever enter my life

The one who cares, the one who dares
The one so pure in heart
The one with so much grace and love
It sets her far apart

A special day this is indeed
For on December 8th
A little girl was born who would
Grow up to instill faith

She’d think not of herself but what
She could give and assist
And it has been my privilege
To make sure that she’s kissed

And held and hugged and supported
And make sure it’s expressed
Just how special you are and
Just how much we’re all blessed

Happy Birthday Sweetness, my
Beautiful loving bride
My source of inspiration who
I proudly walk beside

Watering Flowers

“There is no effect more disproportionate to its cause than the happiness bestowed by a small compliment.”  ~Robert Brault

Watering Flowers

There was a flower named Woman
Who, much like other flowers
Needed watering to bloom
But the name of these showers

Were “compliment” and “gratitude”
“Acknowledgement” and “praise”
These simple words of kindness made
This flower’s petals raise

Unfortunate to say the least
That there were very few
Who made the effort to water
These flowers so they grew

The thought was silly to most men
Who felt abashed to say
Anything that would help these
Flowers bloom all the way

Or if they didn’t think it silly
Then they were afraid
That despite good intentions, the
Flower would be dismayed

Harassment, innuendo, or
Some other type of tease
Said only to get something
So they themselves could please

One truth about the world is that
There are so few who speak
Words that are not intended
To be a harsh critique

There are so few who compliment
That any flattery
Will almost always be taken
With elation and glee

“You look nice today,” “I love
What you’ve done with your hair”
“You have a lovely smile,” few men
Ever seem to dare

“You’re beautiful,” “You’re gorgeous,”
“You are stunning,” “You’re so cute”
Every man can say these things
But most of them are mute

But pay attention if you have
The guts to say these things
You men, look closely, see what kind of
Radiance it brings

To Woman’s face when she’s watered
With this kind of affection
The pure smile, the joyful eyes
And rosy, warm complexion

So speak up, men, be Warriors
Not just with swords and spears
But with your words which can be liquid
Life to Woman’s ears

Screw Ups

Screw Ups

We’re told that should stand by those
Who are having it rough
But there’s a point where even Warriors
Say “That’s enough”

We show support and have hope much
Longer than most would last
But there’s a point where patience should
Be a thing of the past

And that’s with Screw Ups, people who
Aren’t trying very hard
People with ingratitude
Who simply disregard

The caring and concern that their
Friends and family show
Once again, the Warrior
Says what causes most woe

“What you’re doing hasn’t,
Doesn’t, and won’t work for me
I’m letting go ‘cause you’re a Screw Up
Of highest degree”

The Warrior lets go and stops
Letting Screw Ups frustrate
They don’t hold animosity
Or any kind of hate

They simply give up hope which is
An act most cannot do
We want to think that everyone
Could improve and come through

The Warrior’s a realist
And knows a truth that’s bleak:
Some people are permanently
Selfish, scared and weak

The Warrior has the courage
To let the Screw Ups go
They must fend for themselves if they
Do stand a chance to grow

And Warriors are weary when
A Screw Up says they’ve changed
They know that transformation won’t come
From being estranged

It comes from striving, pondering
From giving, sacrifice
It comes from letting go of self
Which is a heavy price

That most Screw Ups just cannot pay
Because “self” is their life
They place their own happiness before
That of a husband, wife

A son, a daughter or parent
A stranger or a friend
Quit on Screw Ups and your time
On better causes spend

Angel In My Bed

Angel in my Bed

Some days I battle through much hell
But each morning’s the same
I wake up, turn and see an angel
Who helps me reclaim

Some strength, some grace, some belief that
There’s beauty still on Earth
Her peaceful slumber always gives me
Some much needed mirth

I see her still serenity
And feel a wave of peace
I’m grateful to have one person
Who makes my calm increase

She’s like a peaceful lake or a
Perfect golden sunset
In her presence I feel no stress
No worry, doubt or fret

It makes me take a moment to
Appreciate the grace
That still exists in this cynical
Negative, snide place

And it inspires me to show
The same grace on my quest
When I go outside and am put
To the world’s rigid test

An angel in my bed each morning
Always helps remind
That beauty sleeps beside me before
I’m off to the grind

Valentine Warrior

“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” ~Morrie Schwartz

Valentine Warrior

Every time this warrior
Tells you to live your day
With courage, strength and fearlessness
But many cannot say

The words “I love you” to their mate
Their wives, girlfriends and such
The men who cannot say these words
Have fallen out of touch

With what true bravery’s about
For when they cannot say
These powerful three words, it is
Selfishness they display

They worry that their feelings will
Get hurt and worry too
That their sweetheart will not return
The three words they feel due

They worry it will make things weird
If timing is too early
They worry that it makes them sound
All sensitive and girly

Which is ironic because that’s
Exactly how they seem
When they aren’t true to themselves and
Don’t let their true love beam

It is extremely important
To see this very clear
The things that hold men back from saying
“I love you” is fear

The warrior is devoid of
That self-serving small trait
Never do they allow it
To make their feelings wait

“I love you” they say with passion
“I cherish you, my love”
“I thank the moon and stars for you”
“I thank the Lord above”

“This is how I feel for you
And no apologies
For being passionate, intense
For laying on the cheese”

“And no, I do not need it back
I give it selflessly
I say it so you understand
I’m glad that you’re with me”

The warrior accepts that the
Response may not be same
And if the other party can’t
Repeat, there is no shame

Because the warrior will know
That everyone’s been true
If their partner cannot repeat
Then they are bid “Adieu”

Because the warrior needs a
Warrior mate beside
Someone just as fearless to
Walk with them as their bride

Do not fear those three words, friends
From them the truth’s revealed
And truth is the strongest weapon
That warriors do yield

Remain in Light

“Physical infidelity is the signal, the notice given, that all fidelities are undermined.” ~Katherine Anne Porter

Remain in Light

This message is for warriors
Who have a loved one who
Has done something so selfish that
It’s not just made them blue

This message is for warriors
Who feel they’ve been betrayed
By loved ones who could not resist
Their urges to get laid

They grew complacent, they got bored
They wanted something fresh
They squandered something deeper for
Relations of the flesh

They’ve left you angry, hurt, confused
And you feel your light fade
You feel there is a price for their
Selfishness to be paid

I’m here to tell you now the best
Advice you’ll ever get:
Remain in light, brave warrior
Don’t you dare get upset

They know that they have shown weakness
And their guilt haunts them now
They want you in their darkness too
So that you bend and bow

Hold your words of hatred and
Unclench your angry fist
Remain in light, do not hurt back
Revenge you must resist

Remain in light as you feel it
Does slip away from you
Remain in light and forgive how
They were weak and untrue

Be on guard, they’ll try to put
Some of the blame your way
Remain in light as you choose soft
And patient words to say

Let them writhe in turmoil as
They try to make some sense
Their ego tries to soothe their heart by
Going on defense

Remain in light and never say
Or do things you’ll regret
Remain in light and do not add
Yourself to their dark debt

Remain in light while you decide
Where you will go from there
‘Cause only in the light will you
Be able to repair

Or find the clarity to see
The new path you should take
Remain in light, brave warrior
For your own honor’s sake

Dear Miro (age 15)

Dear Miro (age 15)

Hi there, Miro, how are you?
It’s me in twenty years
I thought I’d take a moment to
Send you my thoughts and cheers

Never fret, I’m not here to
Attempt to set you straight
I know at your young age how much
Advice does irritate

I wanted just to let you know
You will end up okay
There is no need to worry ‘cause
You will endure the fray

Every single challenge that
You will be forced to face
Will be survived and each time it
Will help build up your grace

I will not try to convince you
That problems should be met
With vigor and with gratitude
Instead of angst and fret

In time you will see for yourself
As you see your strength build
You’ll come to recognize those tests
As ways to feel fulfilled

Maintain your courage and your faith
And don’t forget respect
Pay no mind to what they say
And keep your ego checked

Never let the selfishness
And cruelty of one
Cause you to condemn the rest
And a new person shun

Keep in mind your enemies
Are just cowardly friends
Who have not yet found their courage
To go against the trends

Continue to say “I love you”
To all your family
You know that even though sometimes
You may not all agree

The ones who share your blood will always
Be there by your side
Your gratitude and love for them
Is something you can’t hide

And do not fret when you get hurt
By those who break your heart
You know full well that good things don’t
Have the easiest start

And if I may offer just one
Tiny bit of advice:
When you meet a tall brunette
Who’s beautiful and nice

Put a ring on her finger
The next chance that you get
It is without a doubt the smartest
Thing that you’ve done yet

Good luck, young warrior

Happy Birthday Lu

Happy Birthday Lu

Happy Birthday to my wife
The light and music of my life
Another year since you were born
When just your Birthday suit was worn

May everyone take time today
To tell, express, announce, convey
How you bring joy to all you know
With your soft smile that has a glow

And your giggle that is so sweet
It could bring smiles to the downbeat
You’re special in so many ways
We’d really need many more days

To let you know how much we care
Too bad Birthdays are so rare!
Only one day every year
For everyone to send their cheer

I think exceptions should be made
For folks like you who have displayed
A loving, kind and selfless heart
We need a whole month to impart

How much we love and cherish you
For everything you say and do
So ‘till then, on this day we will
From morning until evening fill

With well wishes and gratitude
For all the good things you exude
Happy Birthday to Sweetness
My wife, my love, my completeness
