Compensate

compensate

Compensate

“All or nothing” is a way
Of thinking that will lead
To nothing more than standing still
If you have just one speed

As years go by the damage will
Take toll on a few parts
But when a limb is lost, that’s when
The intensity starts

And heightened training  on surviving
Limbs must then be done
If something is wrong with your arm
Your task is then to run

If knees are shot or ankles ache
Then get yourself a bench
Realize your arms still work
And can be used to clench

And lift and throw around dead weight
And get your life blood flowing
If atrophy attacks one part
Then others must be growing

Compensate, don’t sit and cry
About what doesn’t work
Don’t focus on injury
‘Cause healthy parts you’ll shirk

Warriors will find a way
To push themselves as far
Physically as they can go
No matter what does mar

They’ll run or walk with neck and back
And shoulder injuries
They’ll exercise their abs and chest
Despite their blown-out knees

They are aware of what remains
And let go of what’s gone
So that the healthy parts increase
In endurance and brawn

Strangers

strangers-are-just-friends-i-havent-met-yet

Strangers

I’ve recently made an attempt
To befriend random folks
A smile, a wave, a “Hello” and
Some chat-chat tried to coax

My findings were quite disappointing
Most were much too guarded
They were too busy and my efforts
Were quickly discarded

Many looks of suspicion
And much fear did I sense
My friendly and warm smile was
Met with a look quite tense

Very few humans are open
To meeting new people
Whether it’s the street, bus stop
Or under a church steeple

Why is everyone afraid
And always thinks the worst?
Why must people be hounded
Begged, pestered and coerced?

To be honest it makes me sad
To think about how shy
Defensive, cautious and averse
So many are to “Hi”

To put it into perspective
I wrote a poem filled
With inspiration and kind words
To help someone’s strength build

I tried to give this note away
But everyone responded:
“No thanks” as they hurried off
Each one of them absconded

I stood there staring at the note
And chuckled to myself
All their preconceived notions
To protect their own health

All their worry and caution
Had denied them a chance
To have their spirit boosted and
Their attitude enchanced

Because they thought I wanted something
Or was selling God
They thought to be that friendly and
Selfless was much too odd

I crumpled up the note and threw it
Right into the trash
I guess the only paper people
Take is cold, hard cash

Thank God for the internet
Where people stop and read
Where preconceived notions do not
Obstruct every good deed

“I Give Up On You”

Another cold, harsh truth that many won’t be able to accept because they’ve been taught to “never give up on the people they love.” The truth is some of those people are parasites completely controlled by ego and will only sap your strength, not be helped by it..

I Give Up On You

Countless readers have told me that my writing has said
Exactly in poetic form what they thought in their head
Concepts that they couldn’t find the right words to describe
And my poem took those thoughts and did properly transcribe

So here’s another rhyming song for something that is tough
Words for how you can tell someone that enough’s enough
When someone’s failed you many times and will so many more
It’s hard to not definitively want to close that door

We want to hope, we want to pray, that they will figure out
That what they’re doing’s selfish and they’ll take the proper route
We want to believe they will come around and open eyes
To cease with all their hating, accusations or their lies

There comes a time when intuition speaks to us quite clear
It tells us that it’s pointless now and that the end is near
And yet there’s messages from past which conflict and say “Wait!”
“You can’t abandon them, there’s hope that they’ll get their life straight!”

Confusion comes because to quit seems such a simple thing
But no, my brothers and sisters, it’s harder than to cling
To give up on someone who we gave so much love and hope
Is an extremely difficult climb up a lofty slope

It takes your effort, concentration, adamance, resolve
To make a friendship that you cared so much for just dissolve
It takes a constant reminder to self that it is right
That those who care just for themselves must be gone from our sight

And it’s important to remember that we’re not God
We cannot perform miracles on people who are flawed
We do our best and let it go and leave the rest to fate
We must release ourselves from that unreasonable weight

For it is truly without reason why we still stand by
People who destroy themselves and make their loved ones cry
There’s no reason in standing by someone who doesn’t care
You’re not a slave, you’re not a captive in their tragic lair

So stand up, speak up and say it, say “I give up on you”
I did my best, I’m satisfied that I cannot get through
I’m not a God or wizard and can only do so much
And so I now release you from my hopeful, caring clutch

It’s over, I give up because you’re just a parasite
Sucking life from anyone who casts their graceful light
It’s time you tried to shine yourself, and so I bid good day
I give up on you is all that I have left to say”

Sometimes it’s these cutting words, not words soft and so sweet
That rattle cages and force selfish ego’s quick retreat
A Warrior does not encourage, pander or condone
Ingratitude or thoughtlessness and makes their feelings known

To Mock A King

jesus

To Mock A King

Anyone can mock a man
And yes, most people do
Even without realizing
With their flippant spew

Anyone can mock a leader
Someone who tries hard
But often fails because they are
By their followers marred

Anyone can mock a God
Since most just can’t conceive
A being that’s far greater than
They are, they can’t believe

But there is a rare breed that can
Willingly mock a King
As a servant of one, I can’t
Think a sadder thing

My own King is one who receives
A lot of foolish mocking
I hear His name said as a swear
While I hear people talking

I hear the ignorant make fun
Without giving a thought
Of what this King did sacrifice
And lessons that He taught

They laugh and think this long-haired
Bearded King is so inane
They do not stop to think about
The suffering and pain

They show no thought of the message
Of love that He did guide
They disregard the grace He kept
Moments before He died

It takes a very unique person
To mock this great King
To make dumb jokes, to throw insults
To laugh and insults fling

It takes one that’s oblivious
To sacrificing all
To give everything of yourself to
Answer a higher call

It takes someone who does not see
Does not appreciate
A person who’s mission in life
Was to reduce the hate

Keep this fact in mind next time
You hear these people mock
Don’t just stand by silently
Don’t turn around and walk

Say things as you see them and
Remind them, tell them of
The life and mission of that King
His purpose: spreading love

Tell them that to mock a King
Takes very little class
Tell them when one mocks a King
It’s mocker who’s the ass

Tell them that they mock because
They feel they have low worth
Tell them that we must have something
Sacred on this Earth

To mock another is a sign
Of weakness and of fear
It’s one thing to mock family
A friend or mock a peer

But when one mocks a King I say
There is no greater shame
A revelation that they won’t
Give anyone acclaim

Empaths

empath

Empaths

There is a type of person who
Is known as an Empath
While many think that they are blessed
They don’t know of the wrath

That comes with being so in tuned
With other people’s feelings
That for the Empath, even the
Most casual of dealings

Can uncover strong feelings of
Much fear, hate or mistrust
The Empath can pick up on things
Even if not discussed

A super-human attention
To detail that reveals
How a smiling, joking person
Actually feels

Some pick up an energy
While others just go by
Body language, chosen words
Or the look in their eye

The Empath is a sensitive
Compassionate observer
Many times they lose themselves
Amid another’s fervor

Shackled with acuity
They often lose control
Of their own thoughts and feelings ‘cause
Another does cajole

They’re overwhelmed by influence
Of what rages around
Every detail magnified
And amplified, each sound

Lucky or a blessing? No,
Most Empaths feel they’re cursed
Because each day they are witness
To humanity’s worst

The selfishness, the fear, the lack
Of any kind of hope
The whining and complaining and
The masses who just mope

The Empath knows there’s strength inside
Themselves and everyone
They’re cursed to watch most people simply
Ignore it and shun

The Empath sees the beauty in
The little things each day
But also sees the countless people
That piss it away

The Empath is a noble guard
A listener to all
They are the ones that you just can’t
Help but tear down your wall

And open up to, speak to, be
Vulnerable, exposed
Because the Empath’s mind is never
Ignorant and closed

They are the listeners who care
Who truly hear your tale
Who do relate to what you’re going
Through each time you fail

And they sustain a lot of wear
And tear from what they do
If only all knew what it’s like
To have empathic view

To let go of yourself and walk
A mile in their shoes
To feel their pain and not be able
To even refuse

Here’s to Empaths, blessed and cursed
With great acuity
True Warrior Poets who
Just wish they could be free

But that is not their lot in life
No, that is not their mission
In a world of ignorance
Their purpose is cognition

To listen, understand and teach
People about themselves
To be the fearless explorer
Who boldly deeper delves

Keep in mind what energy
You do choose to put out
You never know when an Empath
May be lurking about

Silence

“Silence is a source of great strength.” ~Lao Tzu

Silence 2
Silence

The silly normals spit and fight
And spew their rage with all their might
But even when they squeal their loudest scream

All theatrics are no match
For calm which always does dispatch
Their anger and makes it run out of steam

Silence is the greatest foe
Of those who complain of their woe
To say nothing back does create a void

That sucks in all the vengeful bile
While it returns just a slight smile
Leaving argument weak and destroyed

Silence is a weapon all
Possess but most don’t have the gall
To look a shouting person in the eye

And take all of the hateful talk
And be able to not let shock
And not feel driven to loudly reply

To not let a fool control speech
Instead to show, to lead, to teach
To forsake all the snide remarks and wit

To hear their ignorance and not
Feel compelled to return the shot
Instead to land a different kind of hit

The strike of grace across their chest
When only silence is expressed
To take ugliness and not give it back

The ones who can’t control their mouth
All feel a thundering kick south
When there is a silent counter-attack

When one stands fast and looks in eyes
And doesn’t blink while they hear lies
And doesn’t let “injustice” irritate

And rather than be affected
Their silent strength is projected
In ways that are impossible to state

Tree holocaust

deadtrees

Tree holocaust

Murdered trees adorn the curbs
Amongst the stinking trash
For ten years they grew beautifully
Then chopped down in a flash

Decorated for two weeks
Then discarded as junk
The ignorance behind their death
Puts me in a small funk

Idiots and imbeciles
Defend their lack of thought
By just repeating what their parents
And grandparents taught:

“They grow them for this reason, to
Be chopped down for this day!”
With all due respect, to hell
With what these people say

To hell with things they tell themselves
To justify the greed
Of killing something ten years old
Just to selfishly feed

Their desire to decorate
Their living room and smell
That “fresh pine scent” that emanates
From evergreen’s dead shell

And when Christmas is over and
The needles start to fall
Time to kick it to the curb
And next year, have the gall

To kill another decade old
Tree that was “meant to die”
Just another sign of how
Mankind has gone awry

Warrior Resolutions

“I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the year’s.”  ~Henry Moore

Warrior Resolutions

I resolve to do this year
What I have done today
And that’s to put into motion
All of the things I say

I resolve to stop making
A list of things to do
I resolve to recognize
I must put ground to shoe

I resolve to stop wishing
And picturing my goals
I resolve to recognize
It is *I* that controls

Not a list of resolutions
That will be ignored
Every time I’m feeling lazy
Lethargic or bored

I resolve to not rise to
My expectation’s level
Instead my degree of training
Is in which I will revel

I resolve to not care if it’s
New Year’s Day or not
A calendar does not control
Potential I have got

I resolve to shut up now
And go forth and kick ass
And not waste any more time talking
Of what I’ll amass

Happy Birthday, King of Kings

“What is Christmas?  It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.  It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”  ~Agnes M. Pahro

Nativity

Happy Birthday, King of Kings

Happy Birthday, King of Kings
Today we honor you
A day that peace, benevolence
Good will and hope renew

We give each other presents because
Many don’t know how
To show we care with words so we
Use our gifts to endow

All our love and gratitude
To ones that we hold dear
Embarrassment is not something
A warrior does fear

Christmas is one of the few
Times of the year that we
Believe that words speak louder than
Actions to high degree

So when a gift is given, warriors
Will all make sure
Intentions behind their gesture
Are in no way obscure

“I love you,” “I appreciate,”
“I cherish,” “I respect”
Warriors aren’t afraid to
Acknowledge and connect

Let your guard down and be honest
With your cherished ones
Show your brothers, sisters,
Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons

Wives and boyfriends, girlfriends, nieces
Nephews, grandparents
Uncles, aunts and all the rest
That your love is immense

It’s all about serving the King
And the path that He laid
May that path be one that’s never
Diverged from or strayed

The Bashful Blushing Blonde’s Blinding Box of Brilliance

“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know.  Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.” ~Buckminster Fuller

brilliance

The Bashful Blushing Blonde’s Blinding Box of Brilliance

There once was a Blonde who begat
A box that most couldn’t stare at
For you see it was filled
With much brilliance that spilled
Out its confines and made many scat

For the brilliance within made them feel
As if their boring world was less real
And so most ran away
Although some chose to stay
And with snide remarks tried to conceal

They poked fun and all rolled their eyes
And besmirched the brilliance with their lies
They all tried to tarnish
It’s bright, brilliant varnish
With mocking they claimed was so wise

The Blonde blushed as she looked inside
And wondered if what she had eyed
Was not really as fair
As she’d first been aware
And thought it best to close it and hide

But through the crowd came someone new
Who called out, “Whatever you do
Don’t you dare put away
That box ‘cause what they say
Is just cowardly speak and not true!”

The crowd stepped aside as he waded
Through cynics, naysayers and jaded
And then someone noted
This Stranger was coated
By same light as box they degraded

So the crowd turned all of their attention
To him and gave same apprehension
But unlike silent box
This Stranger loudly talks
And proceeded to dauntlessly mention

How blind all of them had behaved
How pathetic, selfish and depraved
It had been to see joy
And just try to destroy
The passion of someone who had braved

To open the box and look in
While the cowards stood by with a grin
And had poked fun and made
The Blonde’s complexion shade
Into bashful, embarrassed red skin

The Stranger grabbed the box’s top
And tore it clean off with a pop
The brilliance spilled out
And the snide crowd did pout
But the Stranger swore it wouldn’t stop

He turned to the Blonde and he said:
“Never let their despair spread
Never allow
A snide comment to bow
Or to lower or curtail your head”

He threw the box top into crowd
It disappeared into the shroud
And he wandered back through
Into those who were blue
While the Blonde stood with her head not bowed

As the blinding brilliance poured outward
Some of the crowd still murmured
“Tough luck!” the Blonde said
While holding high her head
“There’s no closing this box, I’m a nerd!

I’m a geek! I have passion! I’m weird!
And your attitude’s no longer feared!
I won’t feel ashamed
My passion won’t be tamed
For the things that are loved and revered!”

And low and behold, some then saw
The true brilliance within which made jaw
Fall down to the floor
And then they loudly swore
To no longer tease, joke and guffaw

So if you have a box which you hide
Perhaps someday a Stranger will ride
Into your town and tear
The lid clean off and dare
You to not let its contents subside

But sometimes that Stranger won’t come
So it’s up to you to take your thumb
And your fingers and rip
The lid clean off and whip
That lid into the darkest, dank slum

And stare at the passion which blinds
So many aloof, fearful minds
Take the steps to confirm
That you’ll no longer squirm
‘Cause that lidless box always reminds
