Love Is…

tiger

Love Is…

Love is second nature
Love Is reflex, love’s innate
No struggle or effort needed
To care for your mate

Love obliterates ego
To point where there’s no “I”
Love for someone else bids that
Selfish ego goodbye

Love is instinct, built within
Our blood and DNA
Love does not need to “cool down”
True love has no delay

We see it in our animals
In how they care for young
Inherent duty to protect
The small lives which have sprung

We see it in the packs that travel
Together in wild
Loyalty for each other
Even the beasts reviled

But true love is so rare among
The human race it seems
A concept that only exists
Within most people’s dreams

Because the human mind is shackled
With such selfishness
Fear of hurt, embarrassment
Of having to confess

Their true love for another
Worry seeps in and corrupts
Choking the life out of love
As the ego erupts

Love is never angry and
Love is never hostile
‘Cause love is made of empathy
And ‘cause love walks a mile

In the loved one’s shoes and love
Lets go of own opinion
Love is not a slave to fear
And is not ego’s minion

Love is brave and bold and love
Makes no apologies
Love envigors, love strengthens
Love heals, love tames, love frees

From “me,” from “I,” from “myself” and
It opens selfish eyes
To smallness of the ego while
It makes the spirit rise

“I Give Up On You”

Another cold, harsh truth that many won’t be able to accept because they’ve been taught to “never give up on the people they love.” The truth is some of those people are parasites completely controlled by ego and will only sap your strength, not be helped by it..

I Give Up On You

Countless readers have told me that my writing has said
Exactly in poetic form what they thought in their head
Concepts that they couldn’t find the right words to describe
And my poem took those thoughts and did properly transcribe

So here’s another rhyming song for something that is tough
Words for how you can tell someone that enough’s enough
When someone’s failed you many times and will so many more
It’s hard to not definitively want to close that door

We want to hope, we want to pray, that they will figure out
That what they’re doing’s selfish and they’ll take the proper route
We want to believe they will come around and open eyes
To cease with all their hating, accusations or their lies

There comes a time when intuition speaks to us quite clear
It tells us that it’s pointless now and that the end is near
And yet there’s messages from past which conflict and say “Wait!”
“You can’t abandon them, there’s hope that they’ll get their life straight!”

Confusion comes because to quit seems such a simple thing
But no, my brothers and sisters, it’s harder than to cling
To give up on someone who we gave so much love and hope
Is an extremely difficult climb up a lofty slope

It takes your effort, concentration, adamance, resolve
To make a friendship that you cared so much for just dissolve
It takes a constant reminder to self that it is right
That those who care just for themselves must be gone from our sight

And it’s important to remember that we’re not God
We cannot perform miracles on people who are flawed
We do our best and let it go and leave the rest to fate
We must release ourselves from that unreasonable weight

For it is truly without reason why we still stand by
People who destroy themselves and make their loved ones cry
There’s no reason in standing by someone who doesn’t care
You’re not a slave, you’re not a captive in their tragic lair

So stand up, speak up and say it, say “I give up on you”
I did my best, I’m satisfied that I cannot get through
I’m not a God or wizard and can only do so much
And so I now release you from my hopeful, caring clutch

It’s over, I give up because you’re just a parasite
Sucking life from anyone who casts their graceful light
It’s time you tried to shine yourself, and so I bid good day
I give up on you is all that I have left to say”

Sometimes it’s these cutting words, not words soft and so sweet
That rattle cages and force selfish ego’s quick retreat
A Warrior does not encourage, pander or condone
Ingratitude or thoughtlessness and makes their feelings known

To Mock A King

jesus

To Mock A King

Anyone can mock a man
And yes, most people do
Even without realizing
With their flippant spew

Anyone can mock a leader
Someone who tries hard
But often fails because they are
By their followers marred

Anyone can mock a God
Since most just can’t conceive
A being that’s far greater than
They are, they can’t believe

But there is a rare breed that can
Willingly mock a King
As a servant of one, I can’t
Think a sadder thing

My own King is one who receives
A lot of foolish mocking
I hear His name said as a swear
While I hear people talking

I hear the ignorant make fun
Without giving a thought
Of what this King did sacrifice
And lessons that He taught

They laugh and think this long-haired
Bearded King is so inane
They do not stop to think about
The suffering and pain

They show no thought of the message
Of love that He did guide
They disregard the grace He kept
Moments before He died

It takes a very unique person
To mock this great King
To make dumb jokes, to throw insults
To laugh and insults fling

It takes one that’s oblivious
To sacrificing all
To give everything of yourself to
Answer a higher call

It takes someone who does not see
Does not appreciate
A person who’s mission in life
Was to reduce the hate

Keep this fact in mind next time
You hear these people mock
Don’t just stand by silently
Don’t turn around and walk

Say things as you see them and
Remind them, tell them of
The life and mission of that King
His purpose: spreading love

Tell them that to mock a King
Takes very little class
Tell them when one mocks a King
It’s mocker who’s the ass

Tell them that they mock because
They feel they have low worth
Tell them that we must have something
Sacred on this Earth

To mock another is a sign
Of weakness and of fear
It’s one thing to mock family
A friend or mock a peer

But when one mocks a King I say
There is no greater shame
A revelation that they won’t
Give anyone acclaim

Self-Influence

warriorring

Self-Influence

Influence is all around
And often there’s no choice
You’re bombarded by many a
Selfish, frustrated voice

Surrounded by those impatient
Walk beside those with fear
Spend all day or night in presence
Of those with no cheer

And they are all influences on
Even the strongest will
Eventually they will heat up
And melt those who are chill

That is why it’s important
To make sure self-imposed
Influence is around us
So that we stay composed

Wear a piece of jewelry
That helps serve to remind
Of what you are, a Warrior
And by that be defined

If you are surrounded by
Those who exhibit rage
To counter their bad influence
You will have to engage

Auditory influence
That broadcasts peace, control
As they rant, rave and scream and shout
Play music with some soul

Counter all the influence
That is ugly and dark
Don’t just sit there and take it
Make an effort, embark

Surround yourself with opposite
Of the things that you hate
Things of beauty, things of peace
Things that slow your heart rate

Yes, the ones who are angry
Will be put off by it
And that is the perfect time to
Say, “I don’t give a shit”

They do not realize that they
Are influences of
Negativity and so
Of course they’re blind to love

State it clear: “This is what I
Choose as my influence
Not what you currently do
Put out, a vibe that’s tense

I choose this peace, this quiet
This control, this poise, this grace
This is the self-imposed influence
I choose to embrace

Because the influence you give
For me just doesn’t work
So look, listen and show restraint
Or elsewhere go berserk”

Spread The Fear

spreadthefear

Spread the Fear

The radio turns on to wake you
For the next work day
The first thing that you hear is how
The world is in dismay

People being run over
By cars that fled the scene
Another child missing and
Another murdered teen

A cop shot down by bad guys while
Making an arrest
Right between the eyes and then
A couple in the chest

Earthquakes tearing buildings down
And storms that loom ahead
The more you tune in to the grief
The more the fear is spread

It slowly crawls off of the page,
TV, or radio
And creeps into your mind where it
Will never cease to grow

Countries warring with each other
“What if it spreads here?”
Economy is crashing, “I’ll lose
All things I hold dear!”

And more you fear, the more you’ll tune
Back into the fear vendors
Hoping that someone will rise
To become our defenders

Surprise, surprise, there’s just more fear
There’s just more ache and dread
Just more reasons to stay home
And not get out of bed

At some point you have to admit
That what they’re dolling out
Is no different than a drug
That you snort up your snout

Tuning in to hear the constant
Destruction and death
Makes you just like a junkie
Who’s addicted to meth

You’ve snorted, shot up and smoked it
So long that now you’re hooked
“A car crash on the 401?
Ah, now I’m feeling cooked”

“I’ve gotta see the news tonight!
Some kid got knifed at school!”
And when that story’s done, you’ll wait
For the next piece that’s cruel

I turned my news off long ago
When it was clear to me
That every venue in the news
Reported “balance free”

They focused more on fear and dread
And less on things with hope
Their business is in dealing their
Despair inducing dope

I know this for a fact because
I put them to the test
Recently when I embarked
An altruistic quest

I set out to raise funds and hope
For cancer patients who
Are battling a bigger fear
Than news could ever brew

Some local papers said to me
“We’ll think about it some”
Guess they needed time to try
To spin it as more glum

And others, no response at all
Not interested in hope
More concerned with spreading fear
Than helping patients cope

Same goes for the TV stations
All except for one
Not enamoured with the tale
Since there’s no smoking gun

Point proven both to myself
And hopefully to you
About the kind of message that
The newsman likes to spew

You won’t find hope or strength or faith
When you go turn that dial
All they want to dispense is
All of their fearful bile

Stop the spread and tune out from
The news that does no good
The stories that discourage you
From seeing things that could

Set your mind at ease and rouse
Your passion and your nerve
To realize the greatest purpose
In life is to serve

The fear wants you to stay inside
And keep serving their needs
Listening to their commercials
Bringing them proceeds

The fear will keep you in your house
Curled up in a scared ball
Only when you turn it off
Can you start walking tall

Deserving

“Deserve’s got nothing to do with it.” ~William Munny, “Unforgiven”

deserving
Deserving

I walked past a small woman who
Madly shouted at phone:
“I deserve much more than this!”
Which made me simply groan

So many people out there
Who think they do deserve
Who only think about what they
Should get, not how to serve

A Warrior is free from stress
‘Cause they deserve nothing
No one owes them, they don’t wait
For what the world will bring

They do not do a task or deed
With thought of what’s been earned
Outward rewards are something
Which Warriors have spurned

The only thing a Warrior earns
Originates within
Self-respect, self-confidence
A jutted-out strong chin

Head held high ‘cause they’re content
With what they have worked for
What they deserve does emanate
From deep within their core

And so this angry lady stands
And spits her hateful rage
‘Cause someone once again did not
Properly guess her wage

They didn’t give her what she thinks
That she “deserves” so now
She’ll piss and moan and whine and cry
And constantly allow

Others to decide what she
Deserves and always be
A spoiled little child when
Some others don’t agree

The Warrior is not prone to
Such unskillful behavior
Because they know they don’t “deserve”
A damn thing, not a favor

Not a payback, not a debt
Not one thing is expected
From anything outside which is
Why they are not affected

By misjudgement, misunderstanding
Unfair distribution
The Warrior just looks within
For all their restitution

random acts of kindness, silliness, and heroism

Reblogged from sheri writes:

We are drawn to conflict, we're led to fear it and some of us even anticipate it. It's hard to resist when media, newspapers, television, etc, all so blatantly publish the latest news of strife, murder and war with little else to restore a diminishing faith in the good of people.

We quabble over global warming, politics, human (and animal) rights, and insodoing draw lines between us that divide, promote judgement and discrimination.

Warriors among us...caught on camera!

Halfway

halfway

Halfway

Friends / acquaintances, sometimes
The line can become blurred
A friend is someone who does not
Travel only a third

Or no distance at all, a friend
Will meet you halfway there
A friend can bare half of the load
Because a friend does care

Acquaintances can not be bothered
So we’re forced to carry
Because they may be too busy
Lazy or just too wary

They might not want to trust again
So it’s left up to us
To make all calls, to send e-mails
To choose when we discuss

To plan, to set, to make sure that
All events are arranged
And if we only do our half
Then they become estranged

It’s why I am grateful to the
Handful of friends I know
Who see the two miles between us
And one mile they will go

They meet me in the middle and
It speaks about our bond
The willingness to not just take
But give, help, and respond

It urges me to ask more of
My would-be friends that I
Naively just accept as brother
Sister and ally

It urges me to shed the light
Of truth on “friends” who never
Give a thought, an effort, energy
Strain to endeavor

These aren’t “friends,” they’re just people
With whom we pass the time
Associates who aren’t involved
With our life’s constant climb

We can’t draw on them for our strength
Support, passion or grace
They’re not there right beside us as we
Battle, strive and chase

I’ve started asking more from others
Not full, simply half
I’ve made an effort to not go
Whole way on their behalf

And it has been enlightening
To learn just who can’t travel
Just as far as I’m willing
On the very same gravel

It has been hard to let them go
But for the few that do
Meet me in the middle, my
Respect now does accrue

And though it may scare you to ask
I urge you to request
Don’t do all the work yourself
Sometimes you have to test

Sometimes you have to see if they
Get the concept of “fair”
Of “balance,” “symmetry” and see
If distance they will share

Worry not for those who won’t
Budge when you’ve walked a mile
You did your part while they did not
Wave goodbye with a smile

And focus all your energy
On gratitude for those
Who meet you in the middle and
Watch how that friendship grows

Same Old Same Old

Yawn

Same Old Same Old

“Lately” I hear people say
“There aren’t many who go
The extra mile, try harder
Who want to learn and grow”

It’s the word “lately” that makes me
Laugh a Warrior’s laugh
There’s nothing recent about the
Urge to only give “half”

It’s not just in the past ten years
That people have tried less
It has been thousands of years that
They’ve chosen to regress

For those who’ve only recently
Noticed the downward spiral
Welcome to being awake
To selfishness gone viral

There are those who are new to this
And they will act so shocked
“I can’t believe! I can’t believe!”
They’ve talked and talked and talked

But Warriors know very well
On which world they do dwell
They aren’t surprised when ugliness
Sprouts from this same old hell

They aren’t surprised, they don’t act shocked
They aren’t appalled or mad
They don’t treat laziness or selfishness
As a new fad

It is as old as the hills, mountains
Rivers, lakes and seas
The selfish quest for comfort, luxury
Enjoyment, ease

The Warrior accepts what is
The same old same old same
And they do not cry out in anger
Or try to lay blame

What it is is what it is
And all that one can do
Is disagree with how things are
And not let it change you

Not let other’s laziness
Stop you from choosing to
Walk an extra mile when
Another beckons you

Not let other’s fear distract
From what needs to be done
Not let other’s threats dissuade
And make you turn and run

Same old selfish, thoughtless world
With many who are dense
Who are oblivious, ungrateful
And take great offense

Nothing new about it, folks
It’s been that way forever
And since the dawn of time, there’s been
Warriors who would never

Let such fearful, selfish, shabby
People influence
Their attitude, their emotions
Their mood or common sense

Dark and Quiet

Dark & Quiet

This message is more specific
Than most that I do write
It’s directed at people who
Wage a similar fight

It’s for those who are dealing with
A chronic kind of pain
Physical in body or
Emotional in brain

I’ve managed to reintegrate
Myself in the workforce
After years of having my
Ailments take me off course

I was not able to pick up
Exactly where I’d left
Some factors had to be tweaked and
Conditions made bereft

When one is constantly in pain
Your senses grow intense
Making things a bit darker
Serves as a good defense

The normal lighting tubes above
Which most will pay no mind
Over prolonged hours cause
Fatigue is what I find

And so I’ve made an effort to
Keep man-made light around
Dimmer than normal in order
To feel much less wound

Darkened lenses on my glasses
Also help to serve
To block excessive lighting in
Which plucks the painful nerve

Yes, some will look at you strange
Or say, “You think you’re cool?”
But to me, he who worries of
Such things is the real fool

The other factor that has helped
Is to keep the noise low
I’ve made an effort to stay clear
Of those who do bellow

And speak more loudly than is needed
All that extra noise
Over time will only serve
To erode all your poise

The truth is that most people talk
Far more than is required
And I have learned that excess only
Leads to getting tired

I choose my actions carefully
And made what I have last
And that applies to talking when
I’m contacted or asked

It isn’t necessary to
Just yammer on all day
And being one who has learned this
I like to stay away

From those who have no concept of
“Enough” because they just
Serve to be another pain
That is upon me thrust

Dark and quiet’s how I work
And where my peace does thrive
Dark and quiet’s how this broken
Vessel does survive

You cannot stop your body from
Breaking down, but you can
Change your outside factors and
Devise a fitting plan

To work around what holds you back
But you must have the guts
To make accommodations even
If they’ll think you’re nuts
