In Your Face

In Your Face

My style’s described by many folks
As being “In Your Face”
I’ve found when trying to convey
A point, it’s the best place

To focus all your energy
When expressing a thought
A point related far away
Is one that’s made for naught

But when you get right in their face
And grab their full attention
When it’s right up close, it seems
To get full comprehension

When the world’s distractions seem
So far away compared
To the thing that’s “In Your Face”
And leaves you feeling scared

Or awkward or uncomfortable
That’s when it will get through
Only then does the concept
Start to hit home with you

It’s why e-mails are ignored
And texts get no response
Why phone calls are often greeted
With aloof nonchalance

But when intense eye contact’s made
And full attention’s aimed
Squarely right between their eyes
And stated unashamed

The listener cannot ignore
The passion of what’s said
That’s why most effective points
Are made close to your head

You’re vs Your

You’re vs Your

It’s gotten out of hand, I just
Can’t take it anymore
Does anyone still remember
How to use “you’re” and “your?”

If I see one more person write
“Your funny” on the net
I may do something with my laptop
That I will regret

It’s not “you’re house” or “you’re city”
Nor is it “your welcome”
I’m being so bombarded that
I feel I’ll soon succumb

To using these improperly
Because of sheer exposure
It’s enough to make you lose
All of you’re composure

Because your constantly seeing
No one give a care
How did proper grammar become
So extremely rare?

You’re average Joe just can’t seem to
Grasp simple concepts like
Abbreviating “you are” by
Making “a” take a hike

And separating both the sides
With an apostrophe
What’s the matter, don’t have enough
Time to find that key?

Is it missing from you’re phone?
Or maybe your too busy?
Wait a second, is that right?
I’m feeling a bit dizzy

I think I’ll go and lie down while
Your reading this here ballad
And if you’re built-in spell check thinks
That my grammar is valid

If your finished reading this
And can’t find my mistakes
If nothing here seems incorrect
If you’re head never shakes

I’ll firmly plant my face inside
My palm to show the fail
Because my sarcastic lesson
Has been to no avail

Later

I don’t have time to write right now
This poem has to wait
I’m busy at the moment with
So darn much on my plate

I’ll reply to that e-mail that
You sent to me last week
When my workload isn’t at
Its utmost busy peak

I got your message and I meant
To call you back about
That thing you said but things came up
That I could not bail out

Got your text, whenever I
Do get the time, I will
Send you back a sentence but
You’ll have to wait until

I get a breather ‘cause I am
So damn busy right now
I barely have the time to wipe
A bead of sweat from brow

If there was in fact a bead
There isn’t, but I feel
Like there is because I’m working
So hard on this deal

I’ll get to everything later
Because at the moment
I’m too busy prioritizing
How my time is spent

Later because I don’t see
That now is the best time
‘Cause I don’t see the more I wait
The harder is the climb

Because I do not recognize
The ideal time to act
Is right away and more I wait
The more things will distract

So give me just a couple days
By then, it will not matter
You won’t care anymore and I
Won’t have the time to chatter

Works out perfectly for both
If it’s put off for later
Well, at least it does for me
If I make you the waiter

But did you get that note *I* sent
It’s crucial we commune!
I need an answer right away
So get back to me soon

Voices

Voices

We live within a world
Where everyone’s a voice
So many different ways
To spread your news of choice

There’s Twitter and there’s Facebook
And many more I’m sure
That haven’t yet attained
The texting world’s allure

But what I’m noticing
As people use their thumbs
To converse with others
Is what discourse becomes

Shorthand simple thoughts
Devoid of depth and meaning
Rushed and to the point
And no time for gleaning

Thoughts thrown out into
A sea of tweeting noise
With iPhones and Blackberrys
And other cordless toys

I got to thinking that
With gadgets such as these
The problem is how much
They make talking a breeze

No more do people call
And speak with vocal chords
Instead there’s just a few
Scarce words you hurl towards

Devoid of inspiration
Or any concise thought
Just what you had for breakfast
And what merch you just bought

Multitudes of voices
Simultaneously
Texting little facts
And no one to see

And the few voices
Whose messages are deep
Get lost among the others
Hid under the heap

That’s why I grab my shovel
And put the blade to soil
Some voices can inspire
But only if you toil

And dig and sweat and maybe
Even grit your teeth
That will lead to finding
The truth that lies beneath
