“I think while zealots fast and frown, And fight for two or seven,
That there are fifty roads to town, and rather more to Heaven”
~Winthrop Mackworth Praed

Zealot
Zealot is a word for those
Who think there’s just one way
They promote fear and coming doom
In every word they say
I know a zealot who claims to
Have been saved by the Christ
But instead of words with much love
His words are always iced
He warns how everything we do
Is sinful in God’s eyes
How things that bring us hope and joy
Will lead to our demise
Case in point, this zealot says
That Jesus hates Christmas
“A pagan holiday that should
Not bring joy, only stress!”
I don’t exaggerate, he used
The word “hate” to describe
A feeling that the Savior had
Towards the Christmas vibe
And therein lies the truth about
All those who do preach doom
This warrior knows very well
And needs not to presume
That Jesus Christ did not feel hate
Not even on the cross
He did not hate His murderers
While suffering blood loss
He looked towards His Father and
Asked forgiveness of them
He didn’t spew doom and gloom and
Not once did He condemn
He asked his Father, “Where are you?”
When He felt hurt and pain
He got His answer three days later
And began His reign
The zealot doesn’t think of this
When they do walk the street
And shouting loud “The end is nigh!”
To everyone they meet
Instead of scrutinizing everyone
Else in the world
At themselves their scrutiny
Should be zealously hurled
Did their Savior shout at folks?
Did He use rage and hate?
Did Jesus threaten and disrupt
Did He taunt and berate?
I see Jesus for what He was
A source of love and grace
Of patience, understanding and
Much light in this dark place
And people who would take a day
Like Christmas which brings many
Peace and love and joy and say
That it should not bring any
Are adding to the darkness that
The Savior tried to light
You don’t add any love when you
Just rile and incite
If the zealot wants to help
They should try to speak less
And do a little more to clean
The world up of its mess
‘Cause actions speak louder than words
The Savior taught us this
So what’s the best way to show love
With warnings or a kiss?
