Warriors Rise

7 Jun

Warriors Rise

The difference between most people
And Warriors is motion
Most people will stay sitting
‘Cause they don’t have devotion

A Warrior will rise where most
Men and women will sit
Sitting on their ass is something
Warriors omit

A Warrior will rise to shake
Another person’s hand
A Warrior will rise when people
Do show up unplanned

A Warrior will rise to help
While others sit and stare
A Warrior will rise ‘cause standing
Is how they declare

That they are one in one hundred
The simple little task
Of getting up whenever someone
Has the guts to ask

And even when it’s not requested
Warriors will rise
‘Cause sitting and hoping that “Someone
Else will” they despise

Warriors are “Someone else”
That all others wait for
And Warriors can rise because
They’re not anchored to floor

Jesus Walked

6 Mar

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” ~Jesus Christ

Jesus Walked

I’ve never been too keen on going
To a single place
Every single week to pray
And worship the Lord’s grace

Churches have just always seemed
A bit monotonous
A bit too easy, too familiar
And too little fuss

I started thinking about how
The Savior didn’t go
To the same building each week
To make His parish grow

Jesus walked and came to those
Who needed strength and hope
Jesus walked to heal the sick
And help downtrodden cope

Jesus walked and didn’t have
A set weekly routine
Jesus walked which kept His legs
As well as His faith lean

Explore, venture, get off the beaten
Path you always travel
Forgo the comfortable paved roads
And set out on the gravel

Walk out of your comfort zone
And change, adapt, discover
Only when you look in new
Places will you uncover

New people, new challenges
New things to overcome
Enliven all those senses which
Have grown tired and numb

Follow in the footsteps of
The Savior and start walking
You weren’t meant to simply sit
And listen to some talking

If you’re blessed with legs then walk
And put your faith in motion
Sitting and listening doesn’t
Take any devotion

Don’t just hark on what Christ said
Take heed of what He did
Jesus never stayed put and
He surely never hid

Think about it next time you
Get in your car and drive
Down to church, just ask yourself
“Is this how people thrive?”

Maybe you’d be better off
To stretch your legs instead
And put to use all the things in
The Bible you have read

Woe is Me

20 Jan

“Do not listen to those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious.” ~Og Mandino

Woe is Me

Allow me to use my soap box
To cry about my woes
I’d like to writhe in misery
And focus on my lows

I will express ingratitude
By focusing on times
That hurt, frustrated, caused me stress
The awful unjust crimes

Instead of thinking all about
The good things in my life
A father, mother, brothers, sisters
Nieces, nephew, wife

Employment when so many can’t
Get hired anywhere
Ability to walk when some
Are confined to wheelchair

Woe is me! Forget all that!
This is about my hurt!
Because I didn’t get the things
For which I did exert!

My fears about the things I’ll lose
My angst for selfish wants
My nightmares that I can’t let go
Of old forgotten haunts

I take the time to create this
And hope it will be read
Because I need someone to say
“Please feel better instead!”

And I will still not figure out
It won’t do any good
Until I stop my complaining
And do the thing I should

Because a write of angst does not
Inspire or empower
It helps not author or reader
To light their darkest hour

Perhaps some day I will attain
This universal fact:
That woe is NOT me, I am not
Damaged, broken or cracked

I have a well of strength within
Of love and grace and peace
But when I cry about myself
All of these virtues cease

Anyways, back to my tears
And bitter agony
My torture, torment, misery
My me and me and me

Let me know how much you care
By saying “It’s alright!”
“Hope that you feel better soon!”
And “Have a pleasant night!”

We’ll keep it up ‘till one of us
Sees that it goes nowhere
And recognizes there’s no point
To writings of despair

(In case you cannot detect my
Sarcasm in this write
I am not really suffering
From anguish or from plight

I am a warrior which means
When going does get tough
I do not cry, instead I say
“I haven’t had enough!

One more just like that and then
Another if you please!”
Think of this woeful poem
As just a little tease)
