Manchester United Women are anxiously waiting for an update on Hinata Miyazawa after she was reportedly injured in Japan’s friendly against Brazil.

Miyazawa came on for Japan as a substitute in their game against the South American nation but went off injured just a few minutes later.

Videos posted to social media show the World Cup Golden Boot winner limping off with two members of the medical team helping her to walk.

It comes after the midfielder scored her first goal for the club against Bristol City in the last weekend before the international break.

United have a series of players ruled out through injury with Gabby George and Emma Watson sidelined long term with ACL injuries.

Irene Guerrero is expected back soon after suffering an MCL while Evie Rabjohn is due back after Christmas with Aoife Mannion also set to return.

United haven’t announced any official updates on Miyazawa and will likely have to wait until the conclusion of the international break before they can assess the situation.

There are two more days until the whole squad returns from their respective countries’ camps and Marc Skinner will face a tight turn around to prepare his side for their away fixture at Tottenham on Sunday.

England take on Scotland today in their final Nations League match.

Six Reds, including Ella Toone and Mary Earps, could be involved as they look to beat Scotland by some margin to keep their Olympic dreams alive.

Elsewhere, Lucia Garcia is expected to be involved for Spain while Hayley Ladd, Safia Middleton-Patel and Gemma Evans could be involved for Wales.

Manchester United’s Ella Toone was the hero of the hour for the Lionesses as she scored an injury time winner to secure an epic comeback for England yesterday.

Toone said: “ The main thing was to win and we did that. I knew my role was to come on and change the game in any way that I could. What a ball from LJ [Lauren James].”

England fell behind to the Netherlands in the 12th minute as Beerensteyn slotted it past Mary Earps.

The striker doubled the visitors’ lead ten minutes from half-time as Earps let the ball go through her hands.

The keeper, who was crowned BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year earlier this week, was furious with herself.

But England responded well in the second half as two quick goals from Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp brought them back on level terms.

Earps redeemed herself with a brilliant save late on to keep England’s hopes alive.

With the addition of the returning Beth Mead and her Arsenal teammate Alessia Russo, the hosts had a flurry of chances but it was United’s Ella Toone who slotted it through the legs of Van Domselaar to the roar of the Wembley crowd.

Toone continued to praise her teammates saying: “We showed a lot of character to get the win”

However, there were mixed emotions at full time as the team’s chances of topping the group and qualifying for the Olympics are out of their hands since they failed to beat the Netherlands by two goals.

Earps was visibly distraught and as her team came into a huddle at the full time whistle, she let the tears flow and was consoled by her manager Sarina Wiegman.

Speaking to ITV.after the match Earps said: “I’m sorry my performance cost the girls like that.

“That will haunt me for a long time. I’ve really let the team down today. I’m really gutted.”

Wiegman defended her keeper saying: “We win as a team, we lose as a team.”

England will now travel to Scotland, who host them on Tuesday evening.

Manchester United Women have 14 players who have been called up on international duty this week.

Six of those players could be in action for England’s Lionesses as they take on the Netherlands tomorrow night, followed by Scotland next Tuesday in the Nations League.

Mary Earps has been called up as she continues to be Sarina Wiegman’s first choice keeper after she scooped another individual award in the week.

The BBC crowned the shot-stopper as Women’s Footballer of the Year, the first time a keeper has won the award.

Earps is joined by England regular Ella Toone and United Captain Katie Zelem.

Also in the squad is defenders Maya Le Tissier and Millie Turner, the latter replacing Chelsea’s Millie Bright, who withdrew through injury.

Grace Clinton, who is currently on loan to Tottenham, also comes into the side.

England must win both games and hope other games go their way if they have any chance of topping the group and qualifying for the Olympics.

Meanwhile, three United stars have been called up for Wales, goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel, defender Gemma Evans and midfielder Hayley Ladd.

They take on Iceland tomorrow night as they battle the threat of relegation.

Lucia Garcia could be in action for Spain who currently sit top of group C while Lisa Naalsund has been called up for Norway.

Geyse and Hinata Miyazawa came face to face tonight as Brazil hosted Japan in an international friendly and it was Geyse’s side who came out on top in a goal fest that ended 4-3.

Canada take on Australia in the early hours of Saturday morning and Jayde Riviere is expected to play for the hosts.

United’s next game is on December 10th when they will travel to Tottenham in the league.

Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps has been crowned Women’s Footballer of the Year by the BBC.

It comes after the shot-stopper helped United come second in the league last season, securing Champions League football and picking up the WSL Golden Glove award.

She also helped England reach the final of the World Cup which they lost 1-0 to Spain despite Earps saving a second half penalty.

She picked up the Golden Glove at the World Cup as well.

It is the first time a goalkeeper has won the award, which was presented to her by United captain Katie Zelem at Carrington.

Earps said: “To be the first keeper to get their hands on the award is special and I am incredibly grateful.”

In a touching video posted by the BBC, Earps can be seen watching a video in which several stars offer their congratulations.

England manager, Sarina Wiegman said: “Congratulations, but you’re not done yet. You have to keep going – get some more. Enjoy this award.”

Meanwhile, former United keeper Peter Schmeichel said: “It doesn’t happen very often to goalkeepers. It’s always the girls and guys who score the goals that get them not the ones who prevent them. But you had a fantastic season and it’s so well deserved.”

Former teammate Fara Williams said it was a credit to all the hard work she’d put in over the years.

She beat Chelsea forward Sam Kerr and Ballon d’Or winner Bonmati to the award.

Earps is expected to be one of the top contenders for Sports Personality of the Year this year for her work on the field and off it.

In addition to her on-field heroics, she took on sports giants Nike over their decision not to sell goalkeepers shirts at the World Cup.

It is believed that Earps has a real shot of winning the coveted title, which would be an incredible achievement for a goalkeeper. Nominees are yet to be announced for that award which will be given in a ceremony on December 19th.

Women’s Super League and Championship clubs have agreed to form a club-owned organisation to run women’s professional football in England from next season onwards.

The new organisation will take control of the WSL and Championship, moving away from the FA.

Each club in the top two tiers will act as shareholders.

Former Nike director, Nikki Doucet has been appointed as the chief executive.

The FA has run the WSL for the last 13 years since it first launched in 2010.

In the Summer, Baroness Sue Campbell, the FA’s director of women’s football, said there had been “a real acceptance that the women’s game needs to be managed differently, run differently and we’ve had some really honest and exciting conversations”.

The new organisation will have a task on their hands as broadcasting contracts need to be set up for the new season with the current agreements with Sky Sports and the BBC set to expire at the end of this season.

It is also understood that VAR will be introduced to the WSL next season according to a previous report by Emma Sanders of the BBC.

Other topics of discussion, high on the agenda are the format of the League Cup, gaps in the schedule and professionalism of the officials.

Previously, Marc Skinner raised the issue of the points-based system for international players requiring a visa, which was introduced in January 2021.

He said: “There are excellent players overseas you just can’t get into the country. We should call for the structure of how we allow players in to [change] – the points tally is too high. If we want our league to be the very best then we need to look at the ceiling of the points.”

Manchester United’s Patrick Stewart is thought to have been heavily involved in the discussions surrounding this move.

Manchester United Women have beaten bottom of the league Bristol City 2-0 as they got back to winning ways in the league.

It was a fight for Bristol from the start as Leah Galton and Geyse ran rings round the Robins defence.

Aspin chopped down Galton in the second minute but came off worse in the challenge and United couldn’t capitalise on the free kick.

Five minutes later, Geyse wriggled free of her defender and cut it back to Parris whose strike was well saved by Clark in the Bristol goal.

Again United came, Galton and Turner both denied by the gloves of Clark as she saved her team from falling behind in the first half.

Aspin succumbed to the earlier knock she had picked up and had to be stretchered off in the 26th minute.

The stoppage disrupted United’s rhythm and for a short time Bristol saw more possession.

Just before half-time Bristol had their best chance of the game but Earps got down low to stop a header from sneaking into the bottom corner.

United made the breakthrough in the second half as 50 minutes in Hinata Miyazawa bagged her first goal for the club. Her deflected strike from outside of the area wrong footed the keeper to break the deadlock.

Five minutes later and United doubled their lead as Ella Toone delivered a beautiful cross which Parris rose to head past Clark.

Toone had two assists now but wanted a goal herself, she found the net in the 63rd minute but it was ruled out for offside despite it coming off a Bristol defender last.

Two minutes later and she squared a ball to the onrushing Parris who slid and tapped it home but momentum kept pulling her forward and she collided nastily with the goal post.

Again the linesman’s flag was up but it was a tight call, it would be Parris’ last involvement of the game as she went off to receive treatment.

It was a dominant display from United who probably could’ve boasted a bigger scoreline if not for Clark’s heroics between the sticks.

Team: Earps, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell, Riviere, Zelem, Miyazawa (Ladd 67), Parris (Malard 67), Toone, Galton (Williams 77), Geyse (Garcia 78)

Manchester United defender Millie Turner has been called up for England after Millie Bright withdrew through injury.

The uncapped Turner has been a constant for United’s squad for the last five years since they reformed and has started every league game so far this season.

“[I am] delighted to be called into the Lionesses squad,” Turner told club media.

“It’s a real honour for me and a proud moment for my friends and family.”

Turner received her first senior call-up in September 2020, during Phil Neville’s time in charge of the Lionesses.

She was then called up by England interim boss Hege Riise in 2021, but is yet to make an appearance for her country.

Turner will be joined by fellow United teammates Mary Earps, Maya Le Tissier, Katie Zelem and Ella Toone. According to The Evening Standard, “Turner, who has been capped by the Lionesses at various youth levels, will report for duty with the rest of the squad at St George’s Park on Monday.”

They face Netherlands and Scotland in the Nations League with hopes of Olympic qualification hanging by a thread.

The Lionesses currently sit third in the group behind Netherlands and Belgium.

Bright, who had captained England in the absence of the injured Leah Williamson, withdrew from the squad due to a knee injury and was absent from Chelsea’s Champions League game against Paris FC. Arsenal striker Beth Mead should make a welcome return after missing over a year through injury.

Before the international break, United still have to face Bristol City away in the WSL on Sunday.

Manchester United have got back to winning ways as they narrowly beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Conti Cup this evening.

An early chance for Nikita Parris was just wide of the post but showed United’s intent early on.

With 14 minutes gone, Toone dug out a shot but it was easily caught by the Liverpool keeper. United were knocking at the door.

Garcia controlled the ball well, chipping it over her marker but her shot was just a fraction wide of the top corner.

Just before half-time it was Parris who broke the deadlock with a lovely strike from the edge of the area after shaking off Missy Bo Kearns.

Liverpool were much improved in the second half, launching attack after attack and the game opened up.

Evans put in a good block before Tullis-Joyce got down well to prevent Lundgaard from getting an equaliser.

Moments later Tullis-Joyce made the decision to scoop the ball up in the area but spilled it, almost allowing Liverpool a way back in, but the United keeper recovered well.

The shot-stopper almost made the mistake United’s regular number one, Mary Earps made against City at the weekend as she attempted to clear the ball and hit it against an opposition player. But she was luckier than Earps and nothing came of it for the hosts.

Moments later Bo Kearns must have thought she’d scored, but Tullis-Joyce pulled off a magnificent save to deny her.

A chance for Malard came at the other end and got the away fans excited, but it was deflected out for a corner.

It was a narrow victory for United but it secured the points and cemented their good start to their Conti Cup campaign.

United XI: Tullis-Joyce, Ladd, Blundell, Evans, Le Tissier, Riviere, Toone (Naalsund 63), Miyazawa, Parris (Galton 63), Williams (Malard 63), Garcia

Dan Bale has been appointed Assistant Coach at Manchester United Women.

He replaces Martin Ho, who left the side in the summer to become manager of SK Brann Kvinner.

Bale was previously working with Nottingham Forest’s youth system and has already been spotted working alongside Marc Skinner during the Manchester derby last Sunday.

Speaking of Bale’s appointment, Skinner said: “He is a fantastic guy who I have known a long time. He has come in from Nottingham Forest Academy, where he has been working in the youth phases and is fantastic at working with players individually.”

He continued: “He will be a really welcome addition. He is a great guy and has fitted in really well with the staff.”

Bale will assist Skinner and the rest of the United staff with the day-to-day coaching of the women’s team.

Skinner told members of the press: “It’s important that when you get an assistant in that they have the ability to help gel others as well and I think Dan has got that perfect balance and is a really welcome addition for us.”

United’s next game was tonight as they took on Liverpool in the Conti Cup group stages.

They will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat last weekend to Manchester rivals City who beat them 3-1 in the league.

So far they have got off to a winning start in the Conti Cup though, beating Everton 7-0 in their first game of the competition.

They were 1-0 up at Prenton Park with 4 minutes to go, at the time of writing. Our match report will follow shortly.

The Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Sunday was marred by poor decisions that impacted the result in another knock for the WSL.

United went ahead through a perfectly executed penalty taken by Katie Zelem after Greenwood handled the ball in the area.

The home side found the back of the net again through Geyse after her cross deflected off a City defender.

She kept it in play, gathering it on the byline, made space and slotted it in from a tight angle but the linesman signalled that the ball had in fact gone out of play… for a goal kick.

It was an odd decision which affected the game significantly.

United went on to lose 3-1 after the home side were picked apart by two goals in sixty seconds, then a poor clearance by Earps ricocheted off Shaw and into the goal for City’s third.

City went down to ten with the sending off of Alexiandri and United had their chances towards the end of the game but it was too little, too late.

Replays show Geyse’s goal probably should have stood as the whole ball did not look to have crossed the line but if it had gone out of play, it should have been a corner to United.

The ball comes off a City defender.

The result leaves United in fourth place, a point behind their Manchester rivals and seven points off league leaders Chelsea.

United will have to bounce back immediately as they take on Liverpool in the Conti Cup tomorrow.

They return to WSL action on Sunday when they travel to Bristol.
