A lot of churn has already taken place in the goalkeeping department at Manchester United and more is expected, especially for their academy talent.

Andre Onana has already arrived and replaced David de Gea while Tom Heaton is expected to stay at Old Trafford after positive discussions with manager Erik ten Hag.

Academy graduate Dean Henderson does not want to remain at Old Trafford and play second fiddle and he is a target for Nottingham Forest but his chances of securing a move are dwindling.

Goalkeeping churn at United

Matej Kovar, who impressed in the first two games of pre-season, is not in the manager’s plans and there are chances of a permanent exit.

Sparta Prague balked at United’s asking price but the likes of Hull City and Red Star Belgrade have entered the race with Aston Villa another interested party.

Nathan Bishop, who played against Wrexham, has already secured a permanent exit to EFL Championship side Sunderland and another goalie who played in the same game is close to sealing a temporary exit.

Radek Vitek replaced Bishop in the second half and he is nearing a loan exit to League Two side Accrington Stanley according to The Sun.

His exit will only be confirmed once he recovers from a minor injury but it is expected to take place before the window closes.

Vitek nears loan exit

“United are also ready to release fellow young Czech keeper Radek Vitek, 19, on loan. Accrington Stanley are leading the race for him.

“Vitek played against Wrexham in the club’s tour of America. But will be allowed out once he is clear of a minor injury.

“Stanley are keen, although they have settled their recent fall-out with No 1 Toby Savin so they may not be able to offer Vitek a guaranteed start.”

Vitek played a crucial role as United won the FA Youth Cup a couple of seasons back and this could be his first loan spell outside United.

Manchester United u21s ended their season on Friday with a 2-2 draw at Carrington against Leicester City. Here are our player ratings for the match:

To view a detailed match report, click here.

Radek Vitek – 8 – An almost perfect performance from the keeper, Vitek made an incredible double save to stop a penalty and made eight saves in total. Assured with the ball at his feet, Vitek swept up a number of balls over the top and commanded his area well. The only blip in his performance was slightly questionable positioning on the free kick for Leicester’s second goal.

Marc Jurado – 6 – Started off the match with a great goal line clearance and then had an up and down 90 minutes as Leicester’s Tawanda Maswanhise was constantly threatening.

Willy Kambwala – 6 – Had a good first half defensively and showed a bit of passing range with some long balls into the channels but his day ended early in the second half after picking up a soft second yellow card. With a bit more luck he could have had his name on the scoresheet instead.

Teden Mengi – 5 – Looked a bit off the pace on the day, was beaten early on and then looked to shy away from a few subsequent challenges affording the Leicester forwards too much space.

Bjorn Hardley – 6.5 – A solid performance, he didn’t give his winger too much joy before moving into a centre back role and looking just as comfortable.

Maxi Oyedele – 6.5 – Offered the most presence in midfield, covering a lot of ground and moving the ball quickly.

Charlie Wellens – 5.5 – Tasked with sitting in front of the back four, he couldn’t get a hold of the ball to control the midfield and didn’t offer enough protection defensively.

Noam Emeran – 8 – United’s key man in attack, he was the lone provider of quality in the final third. Provided three whipped in crosses early on before taking it into his own hands to score two sensational goals. Let the team down defensively though as he watched on for Leicester’s first goal, making no attempt to defend.

Zidane Iqbal – 5 – An almost non-entity, he drifted through the majority of the match and offered little in the way of threat from the number 10 position.

Kelly N’Mai – 5 – With the majority of play coming down the right through Emeran, he saw few touches of the ball before being subbed. Came close to getting onto a couple crosses at the back post but always seemed to be just a yard behind.

Joe Hugill – 5 – Just wasn’t involved enough, held up the ball well once but was very forgettable otherwise.

Substitutes

Sam Murray – 5.5 – Made a good goal line block before Leicester’s first goal but was under the cosh much of the time with Leicester’s man advantage, struggling to defend against the direct running and eventually conceded the penalty.

Dan Gore – 6 – Offered some much needed bite off the bench with Leicester controlling much of the second half but didn’t have too many chances to show his quality on the ball.

Omari Forson – 5 – Made one darting run through the middle but had little impact off the bench.

Manchester United u21s hosted Leicester City for a lunch time kick off at Carrington for their final match of the season.

Among the starting XI for United was Kelly N’Mai, a 19 year old winger on trial from Salford City.

Just minutes into the match, Noam Emeran’s cross bounced across the six yard box and N’Mai was coming in at the back post, but the trialist couldn’t quite reach the ball for the finish.

Up the other end Leicester’s Wanya Marçal-Madivadua dribbled through Teden Mengi’s challenge and shot past Radek Vitek, but Marc Jurado was back on the line to head clear.

On a day of crazy weather, in the 16th minute Vitek’s clearance was held up in the air by the strong winds and fell to Tawanda Maswanhise who shook off Jurado and struck to the far post, forcing a stretched save from Vitek to tip it around the post.

Most of United’s attacking threat was coming down the right side through Emeran and the Frenchman delivered another whipped low ball that flashed across the box just out of reach of Joe Hugill and N’Mai.

Leicester’s Maswanhise came close with a curling free kick over the wall towards bottom left corner that was pushed out by Vitek.

The wind and sun turned into torrential rain but the conditions didn’t stop a lovely bit of play between Jurado and Maxi Oyedele, with the midfielder clipping the ball over the defender to the overlapping Jurado, whose cross was cleared at the back post out for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Willy Kambwala found himself unmarked just six yards out, but the centre back’s mishit jumping volley cushioned the ball up and over onto top of net.

Emeran gave United the lead in the 37th minute, cutting inside and curling the ball just inside the far post past the keeper.

Emeran was looking for a second before the break when he drove into box from the right side and shot from a tight angle which the keeper parried out.

The tides turned early in the second half though when Willy Kambwala was shown a second yellow card after accidentally taking down Maswanhise with the slightest of contact on the left wing.

The man advantage gave Leicester the upper hand and they took advantage within ten minutes to level it up. Maswanhise ran past Jurado to the byline before cutting back for the wide open Marçal-Madivadua at the back post, whose first effort was blocked by Sam Murray, but he hit the back of the net with the second go.

Eight minutes later and Leicester took the lead through Lewis Brunt’s free kick on the edge of the box. Question marks about Vitek’s position as the Leicester skipper slotted in keeper side of the wall.

Things were going from bad to worse when in the 70th minute Sam Murray bundled into Wormleighton inside the box to concede a penalty. Brunt stepped up looking for his second but Vitek made a huge save down to his left and then another to deny Amani Richards on the rebound, to keep United in it.

Holding on until the 83rd minute, Emeran picked out the top right corner with a free kick of his own to bring it back to 2-2.

Into injury time, one last chance came from Emeran’s cross from the right that was cutback to Dan Gore from 14 yards but a big block from the Leicester defender ensured it ended all square.

With their season now over, United’s u21s are left in 9th place with West Ham potentially passing ahead of them with their one match remaining.

United: Vitek, Jurado, Kambwala, Mengi, Hardley, Wellens (Forson 60), Oyedele (Gore 60), Emeran, Iqbal, N’Mai (Murray 50), Hugill

Unused subs: Mee, Collyer

Manchester United youngster Elyh Harrison has signed a professional contract at the club.

The 17-year-old, who recently celebrated his birthday, joined from Stevenage Town on a scholarship deal last summer.

Due to eligibility terms, he wasn’t able to land a professional contract until he was of the required age.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, he has signed his first-ever contract at the club.

Radek Vítek was promoted to the Under-21’s at the start of the season meaning Harrison has been competing with Tom Wooster and Eric Hanbury for game time in the U18s.

He has made 11 appearances so far this season for Travis Binnion’s side and has been a bright spark ever since joining the club.

Harrison took to Instagram to update his followers on his progress at the club.

Current Man United youngsters including Kobbie Mainoo and Charlie McNeill commented below the post and congratulated the goalkeeper on his new achievement.

It’s clear to see the academy growing and it is safe to say Erik ten Hag has a lot of talent to choose from going forward.

Mainoo has already been promoted to the first-team with Alejandro Garnacho a permanent fixture in the first team this season.

It remains to be seen what happens for the rest of the season with regards to game time for the youngsters with Ten Hag’s focus on winning another trophy at United.

Harrison might be a long way off from making a competitive appearance but he is clearly showing ambition already at his age.

Manchester United u21s hosted Chelsea on Monday night in PL2 action as they looked to continue their unbeaten run.

Chelsea had an early big chance when Mason Burstow ran in behind straight at goal but was denied by the alert Radek Vitek who was quick off his line to make the stop.

Mateo Mejia drove down the right side in the 10th minute and almost caught the Chelsea keeper out as his cross-cum-shot struck the near post and behind the goal.

Barstow had another chance for Chelsea when he controlled down Juan Castillo’s cross before blazing over the bar from 10 yards out.

It was third time lucky for Barstow as the Chelsea striker gave the London side the lead just after the half hour mark. Josh Brookings cut back deflected off Zidane Iqbal before falling to Barstow to slot past Vitek from close range.

Iqbal had chances to draw it level either side of the half but couldn’t keep his shot on target on both occasions.

It was then Brandon Williams’ turn to threaten, getting on the end of Kobbie Mainoo’s cross to head over the bar from six yards.

But the eventual equalizing goal would come from none other than Joe Hugill. Iqbal was tumbled over in the box and while he appealed for a penalty, Hugill didn’t leave it to chance and finished the loose ball under the keeper.

In the 75th minute, Iqbal’s corner was flicked on at the front post by Mainoo and looked destined for the far corner only for a great save by United States international, Gabriel Slonina.

Chelsea were on top late in the match, forcing a number of saves from Vitek but ultimately Vitek couldn’t keep it out as his brilliant denial Harvey Vale fell to Leo Castledine to give Chelsea the lead.

Marc Jurado had supporters off their seats in injury time with a late free kick that curled just wide of the right post.

With United chasing the equaliser, the counter was open for Chelsea, allowing them to score a third in the dying seconds Malik Mothersille who was quickest to react to the rebound off yet another great save by Vitek.

The final whistle came moments later with the final score 1-3, the first loss of the calendar year for United’s u21s sees them remain middle of the table in 7th place.

United: Vitek, Jurado, Aljofree, Hardley, Williams, Huddlestone (Williams 89), Iqbal, Mejia, Mainoo, Gore, Hugill

Manchester United’s u21s took on Brighton Hove and Albion in Premier League 2 action with a 3-3 draw as they continue to search for their first league win of the season. Here are our player ratings for the match:

To view a detailed match report, click here.

Radek Vitek – 8 – Kept United in the game with a remarkable double save early on and then followed it up with several more top notch saves throughout the match. Unfortunately, a poor decision to try run out and sweep a counter saw Brighton score easily for their third. But overall it was a good performance from the Czech keeper who is continuing to follow in the footsteps of Matej Kovar, who has also impressed as of late.

Marc Jurado – 6.5 – Had a tough time of it defensively in the first half but came out much improved in the second and got forward to good effect, coming close to scoring with a great effort.

Rhys Bennett – 6.5 – His passing was much improved today and he defended well for the most part.

Tyler Fredricson – 6.5 – Made a number of key interventions up against a strong opponent in Evan Ferguson but allowed too much space at times. On the ball he showed a good range of passing out from the back.

Bjorn Hardley – 7.5 – Was tested by Odeluga Offiah’s pace but stood up to the challenge and defended well. Also got forward often and grabbed the late equaliser.

Toby Collyer – 7 – Kept things tidy on the ball and did a good job of mopping up in midfield. Was also a constant danger on corners as Brighton couldn’t contend with his high leap in the box.

Charle Savage – 7.5 – A feisty display in midfield and got hold of the play especially in the second half as he sprayed the ball around to great effect. Unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet, hitting the post and forcing a number of good saves and blocks with his long range shooting.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 6 – A mixed bag of a performance as he impressed with a lot of intricate play and passes but also sloppily gifted away possession too often and failed to give support to Jurado defensively, particularly in the first half.

Kobbie Mainoo – 9 – A top performance from the 17 year old in a more advance role than usual. Offered good movement in the final third and capped off his display with two well taken goals.

Shola Shoretire – 6.5 – A match of moments as he was involved in all three goals with a delightful chipped cross for Hardley and the two corners for Mainoo’s brace but drifted through too much of the match and didn’t track back when playing as a left winger in the first half.

Charlie McNeill – 6.5 – A hard working display despite struggling with an illness that eventually saw him come off at the break. Didn’t have his shooting boots on today but created a good chance for Shoretire and was much more involved in play than usual this season.

Substitutes

Sam Mather – 6 – Provided some good intricate play at times but didn’t have a large impact.

Tom Huddlestone – 6.5 – Offer composure in the midfield and his strength allowed him to win possession high up the pitch a number of times to keep attacks alive.

The post Six academy players added to Manchester United’s Europa League squad appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

]]>

Manchester United’s fine run in the Premier League has seen them jump from bottom of the table to fifth place, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.

And now the four-match winning momentum needs to be carried forward into the Europa League with the Red Devils opening their campaign against Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

Rotation likely

Erik ten Hag has hinted at certain changes in personnel as he seeks to give minutes to players who have not played as much with the fixtures set to come thick and fast.

But the priority remains to win every game and the Dutch manager will be putting out a strong side in the opening encounters so as to secure qualification for the next stage as soon as possible.

That will allow the former Ajax boss to rotate players more freely and there will be chances for academy graduates to impress along the way.

Keeping this in mind, United have added six academy products to the B list for the club’s Europa League squad which has been confirmed by the club’s media department.

The players include — goalie Radek Vitek, central defender Tyler Fredricson, midfielders Kobbie Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal, Shola Shoretire and centre-forward Charlie McNeill.

Time for the Academy to shine

The sextet have impressed in age-group games and they will be hoping to impress the first-team manager in training so that they can at least make the bench in most games.

Fredricson’s displays during the FA Youth Cup title winning charge caught everyone’s eye and he will be hoping to carry on in the same vein.

Mainoo is yet another part of the FA Youth Cup-winning group. His displays have earned him comparisons with former Red Paul Pogba and he certainly has similar attributes and that has been on show during the current Under-21s season.

Iqbal was one of the breakout stars of the pre-season campaign and he is the eldest of the group. There have been murmurs that Ten Hag has personally wanted to keep a hold of him instead of sending him out on loan.

Shoretire had made his European debut for the Red Devils back in 2021 when he had come on as a substitute against Thursday’s opponents Real Sociedad in a 0-0 draw.

McNeill’s goal records at youth level have always been phenomenal and fans are eager to see him get opportunities considering the lack of options up front for the manager.

Manchester United’s u21s started their EFL Trophy campaign with a 1-2 victory away to Carlisle United. Here are our player ratings for the match:

To view a detailed match report, click here.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Radek Vitek – 8.5 – Man of the match if it weren’t for Mainoo. Made six saves, some of which were brilliant and cleared up any high balls into the box with a commanding presence.

Marc Jurado – 7.5 – Seemed to come up in the big moments with huge blocks in the box and offered a good outlet in possession on the right.

Tyler Fredricson – 8 – Looked like he might be in for a long night when he got caught under a high ball in the first minute but he quickly grew into it and played a blinder, cutting out a number of attacks and making vital clearances in the box. Unfortunately, had to come off at half-time with an injury.

Rhys Bennett – 7 – Was strong in the air but with no tackles or interceptions, he didn’t make a large impact.

Bjorn Hardley – 8 – Put himself about physically and wasn’t afraid of Carlisle trying to rough him up. Did a good job at left back and then centre back in the second half.

Dan Gore – 7 – Had some good moments with crafty dribbling and created a few openings but just didn’t get involved as regularly as his teammates.

Kobbie Mainoo – 9 – A monstrous performance, he made a high energy match look slow when he touched the ball as he turned and opened space with ease. Was defensively strong as well, making six tackles and four interceptions.

Omari Forson – 8 – Scored the winner to cap off a good performance. Linked well with the midfield and created many openings with his close dribbling. But could have been a bit more direct in his play instead of looking to always check back.

Zidane Iqbal – 8 – Put on a passing clinic as he hardly misplaced one all night. Whether it was short or long, he was cutting through the Carlisle defence, particularly playing through Garnacho a number of times.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7.5 – Caused a lot of danger with his direct running but left his shooting boots at home as none of his five efforts hit the target. Also needs to pick his moments better as he looked to go alone too often, whereas the first time he looked up for a pass he provided the assist to McNeill.

Charlie McNeill – 8 – An almost non-entity until his well taken goal in the first half which then sprung him to life a bit. Should have added a second when he missed an open goal from 10 yards out.

Substitutes

Sam Murray – 7 – A solid display up and down the pitch and could have easily had an assist if McNeill’s finishing was better.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 6.5 – Came closed to scoring when he hit the post before Forson’s match winner. Had some nice bits of technical play but held onto the ball too long at times.

Tom Huddlestone – 6 – Surprisingly didn’t add as much composure to midfield as you’d expect and resorted to a few hoofed clearances as Carlisle chased late in the game.

Manni Norkett – N/A – Not enough time to make an impact.

Maxi Oyedele – N/A – Not enough time to make an impact.

Manchester United’s u18s hosted Blackburn Rovers last night at Moss Lane in a fixture which could see them leapfrog the opposition with a victory into third place in the league.

United started hot out the gates with Alejandro Garnacho tearing down the left and working the ball across the edge of the box for it to end with Manni Norkett to strike low but it was saved out for a corner.

In the 8th minute, Kobbie Mainoo got to the byline on the left and his cutback bounced off a Blackburn defender towards the goal but the keeper’s quick reactions were able to tip the ball around the post.

A minute later, Habeeb Ogunneye’s sailed too close to the keeper and looked like a routine catch but the Blackburn man made a meal of it as he dropped the ball and it bounced into the net to give United the lead.

It was all United in the opening 15 minutes and Mainoo looked to add a second when he went on a mazy run into the box with great strength holding off the defenders before laying it off to Norkett but he couldn’t beat the keeper from a wide-angle.

Blackburn drew one back in the 18th minute as their left winger got to the byline and cut back for a side-foot finish from Leonard Duru.

Garnacho looked to immediately respond racing down the left and cutting in before unleashing a strike into the top right corner which was only stopped by an incredibly strong hand from the keeper.
In the 20th minute, Dan Gore slid Omari Forson in down the right and the United midfielder looked to dink the keeper who was caught in no man’s land but an outstretched fingertip sent the ball narrowly wide.
The electrifying pace of the match died down in the latter stages of the half and the score remained 1-1 going into the break.
Early in the second half United put the ball into the back of the net as Sam Murray was played in behind down the left and he squared to Norkett to tap in but the ref’s whistle was quick to blow for offside.

Later in the half substitute, James Nolan crossed to the front post for Norkett to flick on but it flashed across the goal and wide.

In the 81st minute it was another disaster from the keeper but this time it was United’s, Radek Vitek. A chipped cross in from the left should have been easily gathering but Vitek took his eye off the ball and fumbled it through his fingertips and into the goal.

Minutes later Gore burst through two Blackburn defenders and went down on the touch of contact to win a penalty. Forson stepped up and slotted into the bottom right corner to equalise.

The final whistle blew shortly after with the final score 2-2, leaving United in 5th place just the one point behind Blackburn in 3rd.

Due to several cancellations earlier in the season, the u18s are back in action in under 24 hours as they take on Wolves at a lunchtime kick-off on Wednesday.

Manchester United’s u18s kicked off the weekend action with a visit to Everton’s windy Finch Farm.

The non-ideal conditions were immediately noticeable when Everton’s first goal kick was sent down field, only to be blown back to their 18-yard box.

The first opening of the match fell to Everton who looked to hit on the counter but the effort from the edge of the box drifted over the bar.

Much of the play was at Everton’s end for the first 20 minutes as they struggled to clear against the strength of the wind.

Despite the wind assistance, clear chances were few and far between for United.

The first trouble for Everton came through a Marc Jurado in-swinging corner from the left. With the help of the wind, the Spaniard’s whipped in delivery caused the defender to make a mess of the clearance. The ball bobbled around the panicked six-yard box but Everton’s keeper, Patrick Nash, eventually jumped on it.

United were almost handed a goal in the 32nd minute when the Everton defender played a back pass and caught their keeper off guard. The ball rolled all the way across the goal and out for a corner.

The resulting corner was taken short and never made it into the box. This was a common theme from United’s corners in the half. Despite their biggest chance coming from a whipped in corner, United often chose to ignore the wind advantage and go short.

United’s first clear chance looked to come in the 35th minute when Sam Mather sent through a chipped ball for Ethan Ennis, but the ex-Liverpool winger was just offside.

Up at the other end, Everton’s big striker Martin Sherif was a handful to deal with and his never-ending pressing forced a turnover in the box. Sherif laid the ball off to his onrushing teammate for a free shot from 16 yards but it was sent over the bar.

It took until the 44th minute for United to get their first shot on target. After winning a free kick at the corner of the box, Mather attempted a curling effort but it was straight into the keeper’s arms in the end.

Seconds before the break, Everton struck with a late hit to go into half-time up 1-0. After a corner wasn’t cleared, the ball was driven back into the box and fell to Emilio Lawrence who smashed it into the net, giving Radek Vitek no chance.

The whistle was blown immediately upon the restart, it had been a poor half from United which was filled with lots of possession but little threat.

Everton continued to create the bigger of the chances in the second half as Charlie Whitaker found himself open on the left but Vitek was out quickly to close the angles and made a big save.

United were struggling to create with their closest openings coming from back to back through balls from Ethan Ennis for Mather but on both occasions Everton’s keeper was quick off his line to clear off Mather’s toe.

Everton doubled their lead in the 68th minute, taking advantage of the wind with an in-swinging corner the ball was delivered to the back post with speed and Francis Okoronkko found himself open to nod home.

The visitor’s looked for a quick response with Ennis being played in down the right by Manni Norkett, but the wide angle shot flashed across the goal and was eventually blown all the way out for a throw in by the staggering winds.

The match was put to bed in the 73rd minute as Everton were allowed too much space in the box and Sherif ended the attack, scoring from six yards out.

United’s academy coach, Travis Binnion, was left unimpressed after the performance saying he thought the 3-0 scoreline was a “fair result.” He also added “the quality wasn’t there to say we deserved anything from the game.”

United: Vitek, Murray, Fredricson, Bennett (Ogunneye 79), Jurado, Oyedele, Mainoo, Moorhouse (Aljofree 63), Ennis, Mather (Berry 85), Norkett
