Yeah I completely agree we need to go all out and get Mats Hummels in the summer. The German is a fantastic defender and at 25 he is at the right age and has the right experience. It will be an expensive signing but you need good defenders to win titles. I believe adding Hammels with Evans, Smalling and Jones would put us in a better situation. We would have 4 strong centre backs in the early to mid 20’s.

Evans is a talented player, but he does need a dominating presence next to him. I don’t think he has quite taken on the mantle of being the first choice centre back, but maybe that’s because he has had too many niggling injuries. I hope Jones gets a chance at centre back because that is a position he deserves to stake his claim. Smalling is a talented lad, but it has been a struggle for him this season.

We would need to settle on a real partnership long-term, so that they can develop a relationship with De Gea. We had our best success when we had a strong partnership like Bruce and Pallister, or Vidic and Ferdinand. A strong defence is vital for a team to be successful and this season we have not been strong enough at all. I think if we could sign Hammels then he could develop a strong partnership with Jones.

We also need Ricardo Rodríguez to become our new left back. The guy is a real talent and he should be cheaper than Luke Shaw. I know Shaw is a talent, but being English shouldn’t be a criteria anymore. We cannot spend £30 or £40 million on every signing. I think Shaw will end up costing around £25-£30 million which is a lot. Rodríguez is one of the best left backs in Germany and we could get him for around £15-18 million and he is a bit more experienced with 18 caps for Switzerland.

I would expect Moyes to be looking for a second left back and also a new right back as well. Rafeal was good last season but has dropped massively from his standards this season. I think Moyes might even go with Smalling at right back for the rest of the season once we have Vidic, Evans and Jones regularly available for centre back. If we can turn our season around and grab 4th place, then Moyes might go back for an Everton full back. No, not Baines but Seamus Coleman.I know Everton will want £17-18 million but he is worth it more than Baines because of the age of the player.

Really, Michael getting pronto d to the first team is the right thing to do plus we have to sell that rubbish smalling. Evans is now the leader of our defence and he deserves to be captain of ManUtd. Could do with a new defender do to be with Evans, jones and MKeane.

I really don’t understand the analysis of the authors on this site. They slate Kagawa, yet they back Cleverley. They say Zaha isn’t ready, yet they say it was folly to sell Tunnicliffe? Now, don’t get me wrong…I think he’s a decent player, but literally nothing he has done suggests he has the extra little spark needed for top flight football. He’s a tough, old school ball winner, with average-good distribution who may/may not have progressed to a higher level had he been given a shot, but of the options that we have in midfield…..and given that most people see that CM as the position money will be spent in the summer (whoever the manager is at that point, Moyes or not), I think it’s fair to say his chances would’ve been extremely limited and I for one hope he does go on to be a solid premiership player and wish him luck going forward.

In reply to Aj. Agreed in most, though I do think Fellaini and Zaha will both come good. Playing Fellaini in a holding role with either Fletcher or Carrick, with Januzaj, Mata, Rooney and RVP making up a fluid and mobile front 4, I can't see an issue. Getting the correct replacements in Luke Shaw, a powerful midfielder and centre-half are far far more important.

Still a class defender when he has young legs beside him. We shouldn’t be happy that Rio and Vidic might be out in the summer. Jones and Smalling are not good enough yet.
