Barcelona are reportedly weighing up the possible signing of former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

De Gea left United during the summer after a successful 12-year stint at the club.

During his last season at Old Trafford, there were massive doubts about his suitability for Erik ten Hag’s brand of football which requires goalkeepers to be good with the ball at their feet and participate in playing out from the back.

A decision was subsequently made to part ways with De Gea and go for Andre Onana.

Onana has had a tough start to life at United so far. Meanwhile, De Gea has been happy to bide his time while waiting for the perfect opportunity.

It’s believed that the Spaniard turned down multiple offers from the Saudi Pro League.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Newcastle are keen on adding De Gea to their ranks after Nick Pope suffered a shoulder injury.

The ex-United shot-stopper is understood to be keen on the opportunity to complete a shock switch to St James’ Park.

According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga giants Barcelona also have an eye on De Gea.

The Spanish newspaper divulges that the Blaugrana may be forced to secure the services of a top goalkeeper to offset the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen who is set to be sidelined for a number of weeks while recovering from an injury.

At the moment, Xavi’s side are said to have total confidence in Ter Stegen’s deputy, Inaki Pena, but if it becomes necessary, they could make a move for De Gea.

De Gea’s main point of attraction of course lies in the fact that he is a free agent and as such, will not command a transfer fee.

Mundo Deportivo adds that the 32-year-old has yet to definitively decide where he ultimately wants to continue with his career.

If indeed De Gea favours a transfer to Camp Nou, he will have to accept a salary that ensures Barca’s compliance with Financial Fair Play rules and regulations. It’s anyone’s guess whether the player, who used to earn around £375,000 per week at United would accept such terms.

In a recent interview, Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola said former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was the best manager of all time.

The Catalan was talking to Sky Sports, where he was answering a series of questions sent in by viewers.

The former Barcelona boss was asked a series of questions including, who were his favourite British artists and if it were more difficult to win a trophy as a manager or player.

However, whilst admitting the rivalry with Jurgen Klopp was the managerial bout he has enjoyed the most in his career, the Liverpool manager did not make it into his list of the best of all time.

The former Bayern boss also curiously claimed he would love to spend time with Sam Allardyce and Neil Warnock to discuss the “old school” mentality of management where tactics were not so important but where the relationships and vibes were of greater significance.

However, the answer that will interest Manchester United fans arrived at the end of the segment. When asked who do you think is the greatest manager of all time, Pep quickly retorted, “Sir Alex Ferguson”.

Perhaps sensing the unpopularity of his answer with his own set of fans, Guardiola quickly also added Johan Cruyff and Arrigo Sacchi.

He claimed that with all three managers “it isn’t just about the titles but the influence”. The Spaniard added that “they changed generations of manager and players and the way they played were unique”.

As you can imagine, being a Barcelona fan, Pep went into more detail about Cruyff asserting that the Dutchman, “changed two clubs, Ajax and Barcelona” and he gave the Catalan side a direction when they did not really have one in the past.

However, the Sky Sports interviewer sensed his chance of a headline and reaffirmed, “so Sir Alex, number one did you say?”.

The Manchester City boss somewhat guardedly confirmed that “yeah, for the amount of consistency, amount of titles, change, dynamics…”. He was quickly interrupted by the interviewer, who asserted that many people see him in that list of all-time greats.

The three time Champions League winning manager claimed now was not the time to judge and “when I retire, I don’t know where people will put me”.

His answer probably comes as no surprise, as Guardiola has never hidden his admiration for Sir Alex. After matching Ferguson’s achievement in June by winning the treble, the Catalan commented that “it’s an honour for me to be like Sir Alex Ferguson — he sent me a message this morning.”

Famously after Pep won his first Premier League title in 2018, the Scottish manager took him out to dinner to celebrate winning his first title, despite beating the Red Devils to the prize.

Therefore, the two legendary managers share a lot of respect for one another but Manchester City fans still won’t be best pleased with the answer, nonetheless.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is open to completing a shock move to Newcastle in January.

De Gea left United in the summer after a 12-year stint at the club.

While at Old Trafford, the Spaniard amassed an impressive 545 appearances for the Red Devils.

However, amidst doubts over his suitability to Erik ten Hag’s brand of football, the Dutchman elected to part ways with De Gea in favour of signing Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian has endured a tough start to life at United. Meanwhile, De Gea has been happy to bide his time while waiting for a suitable opportunity.

It’s believed that he had offers from Saudi Arabia, which he totally rejected.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Newcastle, who are currently grappling with a serious injury crisis, are interested in bringing De Gea back to the Premier League.

As the Magpies beat Ten Hag’s men at St James’ Park to clinch all three points, they lost another key player – Nick Pope, who had to be taken off and Martin Dubravka brought in his place.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is set to hand Dubravka a run of games to prove himself during the upcoming busy festive period before making a conclusive decision as to whether to pursue De Gea or not.

De Gea is aware of Newcastle’s interest in him and would be keen to join their ranks, just months after his association with United came to an end.

“David De Gea is open to a move to Newcastle United should Eddie Howe decide to target another goalkeeper in the wake of the loss of Nick Pope. Pope is facing around four to five months out after suffering a serious shoulder injury.”

“Although De Gea was initially reluctant to return to the Premier League, the Spaniard is believed to be open to joining Newcastle should such an opportunity develop and the Tyneside club are understood to be aware of that.”

“The manner of De Gea’s departure at Old Trafford did not go down well with some of his former United team-mates.”

Manchester United were thoroughly outplayed on Saturday as they suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle United, their 10th defeat so far this campaign.

The scoreline could have been a lot more considering the Magpies’ domination on the night and the woeful display from Erik ten Hag’s side.

However, not everything went according to plan for Eddie Howe’s side with their No 1 Nick Pope suffering an injury in the second-half which saw him get stretchered off wirth former United loanee Martin Dubravka coming on to replace him.

Now as per The Daily Mail, the England international seems to have suffered a recurrence of a dislocated shoulder injury that he had suffered back when he was at Burnley.

Nick Pope out, DDG in?

Surgery is the most likely course of action and that might mean the goalie misses out for at least four months and Newcastle are likely to dip into the transfer market to bring in a new keeper.

Former United shot-stopper David de Gea has emerged as a shock target. Newcastle could plump for him due to his Premier League experience and because he is still a free agent.

The Spaniard ended a 12-year stay at Old Trafford this past summer after Ten Hag forced the club to rescind their previous contract offer and put on the table a new one with a much reduced wage packet.

The Spaniard declined and left the club and has since struggled to find a new home with plenty of clubs rejecting the chance to bring in the Spanish international.

His shot-stopping was letting United down in his final season but most of all, his inability to play out from the back.

His wage demands have proved too costly for a lot of clubs and Newcastle will also not be able to match his last drawn salary and the goalie will have to agree a pay cut if he is to join the Premier League side.

“Newcastle are considering their options, including a possible move for free agent David de Gea, as they await the results of scans on Nick Pope’s shoulder injury.

“Mail Sport understands De Gea is one potential option Newcastle have looked at. He left Manchester United in the summer after 12 years at Old Trafford but has yet to join a new club.

DDG will have to lower wage demands

“He would have obvious appeal given his pedigree, immediate availability and the fact he would not require a transfer fee.

“Though he was on £375,000-per-week during his final contract at Manchester United and would have to accept lower to fit in with their wage structure if Newcastle were to make a firm move for him.”

United brought in Andre Onana as the 33-year-old’s replacement thinking his ability with his feet would revolutionise United’s style of play.

It has been anything but a smooth start to life as the new United No 1 for the Cameroonian, as he has severely struggled in his shot-stopping, making quite a few high-profile errors so far.

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Ince, has recently claimed that he did not commit a cardinal sin by signing for Liverpool owing to the fact he didn’t move directly between the two clubs.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo , the former combative midfielder defended himself saying that playing for the two arch rivals wasn’t a problem as he did not transfer directly between the two English giants.

In fact, since 1964, there has been no direct switch between the two teams. Manchester born, Phil Chisnall, was the last player to do so.

Ince stated, “I have always kind of felt – and I have said this time and time again – it is no disrespect to both teams but I’d have never have gone to Liverpool straight from Manchester United or from Liverpool straight to Manchester United. That is a cardinal sin.” Although, he defends his actions by asserting that he had no desire to leave the Red Devils in 1995. The Ilford-born player made 267 appearances and scored 27 goals between 1989-1995 in a United shirt.

Described as “being able to run tirelessly and provide a reliable defensive back-up in midfield, Ince was also seen as a hard worker with an athletic ability”. The all-action midfielder played a crucial role in restoring the club’s fortunes in the trophy-laden 1990s and formed a formidable midfield line-up with Roy Keane and Bryan Robson.

Unfortunately, Ince was sold by iconic manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, as the two fell out, which resulted in the Scottish manager referring to him as a “big time Charlie”. Ince as since embraced the famous quote by claiming in 2020, he most certainly was, as he played for the two colossals of English and world football.

The now Talksport pundit asserted that the Old Trafford outfit had the chance to resign him when he departed Inter Milan only two years after arriving in 1997, as they had first-option.

“When I left to go to Inter Milan, I didn’t want to leave Manchester United. When I came back from Inter Milan, Man United had first refusal on me. I could have easily gone back to Manchester United – they turned down that decision to take me back.”

Ince claimed that due to family problems, he had to return to England and states that whilst he is unsure if he would have gone back to United, they had no interest in bringing him back.

The former Reading manager commented on his move to Liverpool, “Peter Robinson came over from Liverpool, we sat down and had some lunch, we agreed that was the way I was going to go”.

“The Guv’nor”, as he was known, exclaimed how much he enjoyed living in the north-west of England and it was easy to settle in at Liverpool as he had known fellow England players like David James, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp from international duty.

The player would score 17 goals for the Merseysiders in 81 appearances before moving on to Middlesbrough and Wolves at the tail end of his career.

Probably his most famous moment donning the liver bird emblem, was scoring at Anfield in May 1999 to grab a 2-2 draw against his former side. The midfielder celebrated wildly in front of the Kop end as it seemed the old rivals had dealt a significant blow to the Old Trafford side’s treble dream. Luckily, it did no such thing in the end.

To this day Ince remains a controversial figure, stuck in the middle. He was certainly loved and valued by Man United fans but falling out with Ferguson and going to Liverpool significantly stains the legacy he probably should have at the club due to his role in reviving the team’s fortunes. Furthermore, Liverpool fans never really saw the best of him and would always resent his United links. Maybe that is why nobody has moved directly since 1964 and it does not seem like such a move is on the horizon.

Paul Scholes has lambasted Bruno Fernandes for the Manchester United captain’s post-match interview.

The former United midfielder criticised the current one for not taking responsibility for his role in the 3-3 draw with Galatasaray last night.

The result leaves United’s hopes of progressing to the knock-out stages of the Champions League dangling by a thread, with Erik ten Hag’s side needing both a victory over Bayern Munich in the final fixture, as well as Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen to draw.

It feels unlikely even to the most optimistic of fans.

In the aftermath of last night’s game which appeared, at times, to resemble two amateur boxers swinging wildly with no care for technique in the twelfth round, Fernandes admitted United have fallen foul of the same mistakes they had in previous Champions League matches.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the captain revealed: “It was another game where we could have closed the game. We had too many chances, as I’ve said, and mistakes by ourselves. It’s too bad, to be honest.”

“I don’t want to be too negative, but what we’ve been doing in the Champions League is not enough. We have to control our games every time, it’s not the first game we’ve had like this,” Fernandes rued.

While any objective analyst may look at those comments and think they are a fair assessment of yesterday’s match, Scholes took a different approach in the TNT Studio.

The former midfield maestro turned average pundit asserted: “I know in his interview he is talking about mistakes, but he made two big mistakes tonight by giving two stupid fouls away that lead to two goals.”

Fernandes conceded both free-kicks which ultimately led to Galatasaray scoring twice to claw their way back into a game United had appeared in firm control of. This, of course, ignores the absolutely calamitous errors by Andre Onana for both of these free-kicks; efforts which have no business every becoming goals at Sunday League level, let alone the most illustrious competition in club football.

Scholes went on to contend that the “full team, including himself as the captain, have to take responsibility – it’s a game they should win.” Fernandes’ constant use of the subject pronoun ‘we” in his post-match interview would normally indicate a person accepting his role within a wider group but maybe Scholes knows something different.

The fact United’s performance had looked so promising prior to Onana’s mistakes was also, in large part, because of Fernandes’ brilliance going forward. A superb one-two with Rasmus Hojlund allowed the Portuguese midfielder to assist Alejandro Garnacho’s opener, before his own emphatic rocket from thirty yards into the top corner put United two-nil up.

Scholes did not seem keen to acknowledge either of these contributions, nor lay the responsibility for either of Galatasaray’s free-kicks solely at the feet (or lack of hands) of Onana.

The former Manchester United attacker, Cristiano Ronaldo, faces a lawsuit in the United States over his promotion of Binance, which is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world.

According to the BBC report, Ronaldo is facing a daunting class lawsuit over his promotion of the cryptocurrency exchange company.

The plaintiffs claim that his endorsement resulted in them making poor investments which saw them lose a great deal of money. Consequently, they are seeking damages to the tune of over $1bn (£790m).

The Peoples Person recently reported on the business empire that the legendary striker has been building over the years. Furthermore, Forbes recently labelled the Portuguese all-time leading goal scorer as the highest paid athlete in the world.

Despite his wealth and success, such a gigantic lawsuit could not only be crushing financially but also to his growing reputation in the business world.

In November 2022, Binance announced its first “CR7” collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in partnership with Ronaldo, which the footballer said would reward fans “for all the years of support”.

These NFTs are virtual assets that can be bought or sold but they are only digital. Their primary function is to be used to mark ownership of a video game or photo online.

The cheapest NFT was priced at a whopping $77 when they first came out but a year later, you can buy one for as little as $1.

The crux of the problem is that the claimants argue that the Portuguese’s promotion of the Binance company led to a “500% increase in searches” for the crypto exchange, which is registered in the Cayman Islands.

They also allege that this resulted in people using the company to invest in “unregistered securities”. According to US Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC), such assets can be considered as securities and celebrities who endorse them must follow American law.

The chair of the SEC, Gary Gensler, asserted recently that celebrities such as Ronaldo must “disclose to the public from whom and how much you are getting paid to promote investment in securities”.

Basically the main issue is that the claimants don’t believe that the Real Madrid all-time leading goal scorer disclosed how much he was being paid to endorse the product.

However, to be fair to the mythical former United number 7, the BBC article states that, “Nigel Green, boss of consultancy firm DeVere Group, said the problems at the heart of the case went wider than just one footballer.”

Green claimed that “it is crucial to recognise that blaming Ronaldo alone oversimplifies a complex issue.” He argued that actually, global regulators are the major issue and they have been “slow to establish clear guidelines for this evolving financial landscape.”

Moreover, legal issues are not uncommon in this business. This month, the US Justice Department ordered Binance to pay $4.3bn (£3.4bn) in penalties and forfeitures. The crime was supposedly aiding people to bypass global sanctions and therefore, assist criminals and terrorists in moving money from nation to nation.

Furthermore, chief executive Changpeng Zhao resigned from the firm, having admitted money-laundering violations in the past.

Major League Baseball, Formula 1 and Mercedes-Benz are all also facing class action lawsuits over their promotion of failed crypto-exchange FTX.

Nonetheless, the threat of legal action hasn’t stopped Ronaldo and Binance from planning on working together in the future as they posted on social media recently that they are “cooking something up”.

It has been reported here that the legendary player is also in hot water with the Spanish tax authorities. His Insparya Medical Clinic, which deals in hair transplants, is said to have “issued several invoices without VAT to hundreds of clients between 2019 and 2021”. It could be an expensive year or two for the man from Funchal.

The player that some argue is the greatest of all time clearly has a lot on his plate in the business world and at such a high level, lawsuits and legal issues seem to be inevitable at some point. However, even for someone with the wealth of Ronaldo, he will most certainly be hoping to win a case which involves such eye-watering sums.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has warned his former side against making silly mistakes when they play against Galatasaray.

United are set to clash against the Turkish giants at Rams Park in a must-win affair.

At the moment, the Red Devils are bottom of Group A, with just three points. Erik ten Hag’s men need to beat Galatasaray if they harbour any hopes of making it to the next round of the Champions League.

If they lose the game, United will be out of the competition and won’t even be favourites to qualify for the Europa League.

Berbatov who reached the Champions League final in 2009 with United spoke to Betfair (via DAZN) and explained that the 20-time English champions need to remain focused throughout to get a desirable result.

He pointed out that Galatasaray will undoubtedly be buoyed by their incredible home support which could be crucial in getting them over the line against United.

The Bulgarian said, “Every game is different, especially when you go to Galatasaray – they have good players and crazy fans. But forget that when you step on the pitch, try to concentrate and know you have good players, hungry players coming into the team full of confidence and try to mix it with experience. Try to attack and score goals and don’t make f—g stupid mistakes.”

“United need to get a good result at Galatasaray. With United’s current form, the chances are there for them. I remember playing against Besiktas for Spurs at the old Inonu Stadium – we won 2-0 – but Robbie Keane was two or three metres from me, I was screaming loudly to try to make him hear me, and he couldn’t hear.”

Berbatov added, “The stadium was like an earthquake. They were passionate and supported their team. Galatasaray get even more passionate when a big team like United come to their ground, so that’s why I’m expecting a crazy atmosphere.”

The 42-year-old went on to predict that United will register a narrow 1-0 victory.

Berbatov remarked that Ten Hag’s side will certainly have chances to score and must take these opportunities as they may ultimately not be too many.

He further stated, “Now, they need to get out of this position and this goes by taking points from Galatasaray, away, which is not an easy thing to do and Bayern Munich, it’s Bayern Munich. So, it’s very difficult.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred paid a surprise visit to his ex-teammates at their team hotel in Istanbul before their Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

United are set to face Galatasaray at Rams Park in what can only be described as a must-win affair.

At the moment, the Red Devils sit bottom of Group A with just three points.

Ahead of the match, United confirmed that Fred joined his former Old Trafford colleagues at their hotel, no doubt to wish them good luck.

The Brazilian joined Galatasaray’s fierce city rivals Fenerbahce over the summer following a five-year spell in England with United.

For the Red Devils, Fred chalked up an impressive 213 appearances in total.

He managed to score 14 goals and was part of Erik ten Hag’s Carabao Cup-winning squad last season.

Fred had a wonderful start to life in the Turkish Super Lig with Fenerbahce, who are currently leading in the table.

This term, he has featured 14 times across all competitions and registered five assists.

The 30-year-old’s momentum was halted by a groin injury that has kept him out of action since October.

It’s likely Fred will not play a part in Fenerbahce’s Europa Conference League meeting with Nordsjaelland later this week, hence he was available to check in on United.

He posed for photographs with the likes of Victor Lindelof and club captain Bruno Fernandes.

Fred was also spotted having a conversation with Ten Hag, Mitchell van der Gaag, Steve McClaren and football director John Murtough.

United’s match vs. Galatasaray is set to kick off at 5:45 BST.

Sir Alex Ferguson has bought a new £1.2m valued house to be closer to his family in the wake of his wife’s recent passing.

This is according to the The Mirror, who have claimed that the former Manchester United manager has purchased a house in “an idyllic village next door to son Darren so he can be near his grandchildren”.

The Peoples Person relayed recently that after the death of his beloved wife, Ferguson had put his property that he had shared with Lady Cathy, up for sale.

The mansion was sold for £3.5m and had been the couple’s home for over 20 years.

The house was located in the nearby village of Wilmslow and even had a “Ferguson clan” tartan carpet in the games room.

As fast as one of his legendary team’s counter attacks, it appears the great manager has found a new place to call home.

Sir Alex snapped up the detached five-bedroom property in Goostrey, Cheshire. Interestingly, “England footballer Raheem Sterling previously lived in the village, which first appears in the Domesday book of 1086”.

Estate agents say of the five-bedroom home: “This impressive, deceptively spacious detached home is… positioned within a very private, gated and secure plot. It boasts approximately 7,000sq ft”.

It will certainly be a tough adjustment for the greatest manager of all time.

Ferguson met his late wife in 1964 and they had been together ever since until her death a few weeks ago.

Sir Alex described her as a “bedrock” in his life and credited her for providing the stability at home that allowed his managerial career to flourish.

The couple had three sons, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Now, hopefully the great man can enjoy being a great-grandfather, grandfather and father from an even closer distance. He probably has a few interesting tales to tell.
