Will Fish scored and put in another colossal display north of the border to help Hibernian to their third consecutive league win in the Scottish Premiership.

The English centre-back not only found the back of the net for a vital second but he also played a key role defensively in his side’s 2-0 victory.

It must be said that the host’s goal lived a charmed life at times as Hibernian rode their luck at Easter Road. The team from the Granite city had 23 shots on goals and missed a penalty. However, Fish played a key role in keeping a clean sheet for his side.

It has been reported recently by The Peoples Person that the Manchester-born defender is very happy in Scotland and has no interest in an immediate return to Old Trafford. In fact, the Edinburgh-based club are also strongly considering signing the youngster permanently due to his strong performances.

According to transfermarkt.com, the defender has now played 23 times for Hibernian this season in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Hibs won the game on Sunday 2-0. The team in green and white took the lead in the 18th minute when a long ball played by the keeper sent an attacker behind the Aberdeen defence and the ball was squared to Dylan Vente, who made no mistake. After a VAR check, the goal was given.

Interestingly for Manchester United fans, Fish had two big interventions. The first came in the form of a great piece of defensive work which saw the 20-year-old clear the ball off the line. The Aberdeen forward was sent one-on-one and hit the post. The ball rolled agonisingly across the line, and if it weren’t for Fish’s quick thinking in clearing the ball, Aberdeen would have surely found an equaliser.

The headline-grabbing moment came for the United academy product in the 70th minute. The centre-back rose like a salmon at the back post to nod in from a corner to give the Easter Road outfit a crucial 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.

The Englishman was heavily involved in the match beyond the goal and goal-line clearance, however. Fish was credited with an outstanding score of 8.5 from Sofascore.

The defender has regularly scored over seven this season but yesterday’s 8.5 was a personal best for the season. The youngster put in an imperious defensive display as Aberdeen often laid siege to the Edinburgh-based side’s goal.

Fish was a wall at the back as he had an incredible 12 clearances and two blocked shots. The defender put in a monstrous performance in the air, winning eight out of his nine aerial duals. The physically imposing defender also completed two tackles in the game.

The academy player scored from his one shot on goal and was also involved with the build-up as he completed 37 out of his attempted 48 passes to finish with a passing accuracy of 77% for the afternoon.

The young defender certainly seems to be finding his stride for the team in green and white and it is little wonder the side from Easter Road would love to keep him after the summer. With United’s own defenders flailing this season, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Fish beyond this season, especially if he can continue impressing in Scotland.

Not all Manchester United academy graduates enjoy a lightning start to their footballing career like Marcus Rashford. Plenty have had to rely on the loan system to get up to speed.

David Beckham was a famous example of what the system can produce while last season, Amad Diallo was a raging success during his Championship spell at Sunderland.

This season, United’s La Liga loanees — Alvaro Fernandez and Mason Greenwood have enjoyed success but the same cannot be said of Charlie McNeill, who has struggled for game time in League One and is set to be recalled in January.

Fish excelling on loan

Someone who could earn a permanent move away from Old Trafford thanks to his displays during the temporary spell is Will Fish, currently plying his trade for Hibernian.

Recently, The Peoples Person reported that the centre-back has no interest in returning to Manchester in January as he feels he can progress further in the Scottish league.

Now, according to The Edinburgh News, Hibs are interested in a permanent deal for the United academy star should he continue to improve as he has done so far this term.

The 20-year-old has been an ever-present member of Nick Montgomery’s side, playing in 22 out of their 23 games in all competitions this season.

Hibs are currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership and Fish has played a major role in their rise up the table. So much so that Montgomery wants to keep him permanently.

“I would love to keep Will, not just this season but on a permanent deal. The kid is still just 20 years old, and he’s growing every week. I think his performances belie his age. He plays like a seasoned professional.

“We’re really lucky to have him at the club. And he loves playing for Hibs, loves the club and the boys. Hopefully he’s with us for the season – and who knows what will happen after that?”

The Hibs boss not only praised the centre-back’s displays during matches but also his application during training and how he was “low maintenance”, which is high praise for a youngster in today’s day and age.

Hibs want Fish permanently

“To watch him in training every day and see the effort he puts into games, he’s really low maintenance. I think he’s got a massive future ahead of him.”

Fish has made his share of mistakes but as the manager pointed out, he is the first to try and rectify his error and puts in 100 percent every time.

Interestingly, the manager also added that when the United youngster first arrived, his ball-playing skills were not up to scratch.

But continuous game-time and training has now seen the youngster drive into midfield and break the lines with his passing.

Whether Erik ten Hag has plans for him remains to be seen. Fish has excelled in both his loan spells at Hibs and it is high time a call on his future, whether at United or anywhere else, is taken.

Fish had made his United debut under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was even included in the pre-season squad when Ten Hag was first appointed manager.

Manchester United defender, Will Fish, has stated that he has no desire to return to his parent club just yet as he is very happy with life in Scotland.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the on loan defender “loves” being at Hibernian and thinks the club have a realistic chance of breaking into the top three of Scottish football.

The centre-back has already played 22 times this season for the Edinburgh-based club and he is clearly a key part of the team. Sofascore regularly awards the player a rating of over 7 and he was even credited with a 7.7 performance versus Dundee last month.

The English defender’s contract at United runs until summer 2025 and his parent club have the right to cut short his loan at Easter Road if they see fit.

Asked about this fact, Fish replied, “I think they do but to be honest with you, those discussions haven’t been had yet. It’s not something that I’m actively looking to do.”

The 20 year old also claims he feels one hundred percent settled at the club and he is enjoying the style of football being played in the Scottish capital. He also believes that Hibs are on the right track.

Fish praised his team and manager stating, “If I stay here, that’s something that I would love to do [reach the top 3]. It’s still pretty early in the season but under the gaffer, his coaching team and the way he wants to play, I think a few more tweaks and building on leads, we can easily push for the third spot.”

The Scottish paper is full of praise for Fish, claiming he is gaining invaluable experience like last weekend when his team were 2-0 up but had a man sent off for the final 28 minutes and they had to dig deep to grind out a victory.

This sort of experience is vital for youngsters trying to make it in professional football.

Quizzed on the performance at the weekend the young defender replied, “I thought we defended well, especially when we were down to 10 men. That’s what it takes to get three points in this league. If we want to go far then we’ve got to do that more often”.

Due to the red card, the United youngster had to play in an unfamiliar right back role and despite feeling a bit lost, the player stated that he was happy to play there if the manager needed him to.

No doubt Fish will be aiming to break into the Manchester United team at some stage, especially as a local lad. However, after two successful loan spells north of the border, he is no rush for that happen right now as he is loving his football in the Scottish capital.

Manchester United’s technical director Darren Fletcher has given valuable insights into how the club usually goes about the decision to send young players out on loan.

In an interview with club media, Fletcher revealed that the choice to send a youngster to go out on loan is carefully arrived at after thorough research and consultations are made so as to settle on a suitable transfer destination.

Fletcher revealed that the loanees are carefully watched every game by United representatives, who are tasked with compiling regular reports about the players’ progress and how they are fairing under their temporary employers.

Conversations are also held with the players themselves to check on them and inquire about their personal feelings with respect to how their loan spells are going.

Fletcher said, “Les Parry is probably the one with the closest contact. He’ll be up at the games regularly, with a few of our other scouts and loan scouts, and Les meets Will [Fish] after the games, speaks to him, talks about his development plan and then that gets transferred back to the relevant people in the club.”

“There’s constant conversation around young players because it’s a big part of the development. We all have regular meetings, so we have a regular pathway and player meetings, talking about squad planning, progression and the next stages. We talk about January and all of our [youth] loan players have recall clauses, six months into it.”

Fletcher added, “Not that that is the plan it’s just for all eventualities really. So we’ll talk about do we trigger that loan for the rest of the season or is there another plan? And that can be because they’re not playing or because they are playing but they’re ready for something different.”

The former United midfielder remarked that information gained from monitoring the loanees is relayed to other staff members including football director John Murtough, Nic Cox in the Academy and of course Erik ten Hag.

As per Fletcher, “everything is aligned” and there are always a lot of moving parts with regard to managing a player’s loan spell, but the ultimate goal is to ensure their development.

An academy graduate who came to the fore during Fletcher’s interview is Will Fish, who is currently with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

The 39-year-old mentioned that it was an easy decision to let Fish re-join Nick Montgomery’s side since his first time with the club was extremely successful.

Fletcher hailed the progress displayed by Fish and the defender’s hard work that has rendered him an important member of the team in such a short space of time.

Manchester United’s recent loan spells have yielded good results, with the likes of Amad, Alvaro Fernandez, and Hannibal becoming genuine first-team candidates after time away from the club.

Towering centre-back Will Fish could be the next to add his name to the list.

Fish recently played for Hibernian, the Scottish side, against Luzern in the UEFA Europa Conference League, and put in a masterful defensive display to put his team one step away from group-stage qualification, a remarkable achievement.

Hibernian drew 2-2 against the Swiss side, progressing to the next round courtesy of their 3-1 win in the first leg. They will now play Premier League outfit Aston Villa in the final step before the group stage begins.

As per SofaScore, the United academy prospect was everywhere defensively, making seven clearances, including a crucial one off the line, in addition to two blocks, interceptions and a tackle.

Fish is in familiar surroundings at Hibernian after his fruitful loan spell in Scotland last year.

He came back to United at the start of this season and made some appearances during the pre-season but continuity was deemed paramount as he went back to the place where he flourished.

He made 22 appearances for Hibernian across all competitions last year and showed great defensive instinct. He even scored three goals as Hibernian exceeded expectations.

They finished fifth after making the Championship round of the Scottish League.

This year’s start has been less than ideal, as they’ve lost their opening two games to stand second from bottom in the league.

Fish played the full 90 in both games as his team conceded five goals.

United, Hibernian, and the player himself will hope that they can transfer their European form to the domestic circuit soon. Fish has improved at the Scottish club and more eyeballs on him could lead to a glittering future in the game for him, at United or elsewhere.

Manchester United defender Will Fish re-joined Scottish side Hibernian on loan for the upcoming campaign after having enjoyed a successful loan season with The Hibees last time out.

However, the United man did not get off to the greatest of starts to this year’s spell as Hibs lost the opening game of their league season to St. Mirren on Saturday

The 2-3 loss angered Hibs boss Lee Johnson who laid into his players after the defeat.

As reported in the Daily Record, Fish was one of those called out by Johnson, who branded his side as lazy, singling out the United man in the process.

“No one goes out to be lazy but fatigue makes cowards of us all. I thought for the third goal Will Fish could’ve got back in quicker. I looked on the GPS because I’m psychotic like that and he ran at 82 per cent of his maximum,” said Johnson

The Hibs boss added that he shared a joke with Fish after the incident while praising his performances from last season before once again reminding his side of the standards he demands.

“I asked him if a lion had been behind him, how much of his maximum would he have gone and he said 103 per cent, which I thought was quite funny.

“But it proves you have to do the work early and honestly. Will’s one of the most honest players we’ve got, he’s never shirked anything, but on that occasion he’s either underestimated the opponent’s opportunity. It’s about motivation and how much you want to get there,” he added.

Johnson did admit that Fish is still getting back into the rhythm having joined his team late along with the fact that the defender only played for United in the early rounds of pre-season.

“We have to learn from this. Will Fish is an example, he has to get in the rhythm of us, he came to us quite late from Manchester United where he didn’t have to run back in pre-season games. The bit I enjoy is looking back and actually coaching. It hurts badly but you get back on the horse and hopefully become a stronger team,” said Johnson.

With Hibs looking to better last season fifth-place finish this time around, Johnson will be demanding his team get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

Fish will be hoping for an improved performance in Hibs’ Europa Conference League qualification game, with the Scottish side travelling to Switzerland to take on Luzern before facing an away game at Motherwell in the league on Sunday.

Hibernian have announced defender Will Fish has rejoined the club from Manchester United on loan for another season.

Confirmed via Twitter in a bizarre video, the Scottish club demonstrated that transfer announcements can still be brilliant and hilarious in equal measure while operating on a shoestring budget; simplicity is often the best. The United PR team should take note.

The academy graduate had been enjoying a fruitful pre-season under Erik ten Hag, playing in the opening three matches against Leeds, Lyon and Wrexham. Fish was extremely unlikely to maintain this role in the senior squad as next season began however.

The defender will, instead, return to Scotland where he finished the season as an important part of the Hibs team.

A slow start to life under manager, Lee Johnson, quickly changed when Hibs sold centre-back, Ryan Porteous, to Watford at the beginning of the year. Fish stepped into this vacancy in defence and did not look back, starting 17 consecutive league games to close out the season.

United believe a continuation of this experience the best option for Fish’s progression at this moment.

The defender has been “attracting interest from clubs” in England, both in the Championship and League One, as well as from Scottish rivals, Aberdeen.

Old Trafford officials are confident Hibs can be “trusted to oversee the next stage of development” in a competitive environment where Fish feels comfortable, and his club are comfortable with him.

The Manchester Evening News confirms Fish’s desires to remain with the Scottish side for another season, revealing the defender was “keen to build upon the solid foundations he laid at Hibs.”

Loan deals are often delicate balances to strike.

A young player must be guaranteed enough consistent first team minutes to establish themselves in a new team, and enable their continued development. But the level of football they find themselves subject to must be challenging enough to test their current level, and demand improvements from it. All taking place inside a club, and dressing room, which embrace the youngster and offer a home away from homes.

It’s a difficult task, as demonstrated by Amad Diallo’s contrasting experiences at Rangers and Sunderland; one a baptism by fire to men’s football where the winger rarely featured, the other a safe haven of progression which saw him nominated for the Championship’s Young Player of the Year.

United are confident they have found the correct place for Fish to continue developing as a defender while Hibs are confident they have regained an important player for their team.

Go Fish.

Manchester United’s summer activity is gathering a pace with incomings and outgoings being determined.

For some of the youngsters on the books at Old Trafford, a decision will be made on whether to keep them at the club or send them on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Loan moves can be crucial in players’ development with the experience of first team football outweighing the challenge of respective reserve leagues.

One man who looks to have secured another loan move for next season is centre back, Will Fish.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Scottish side Hibernian and he is set to rejoin the Hibees for the new season.

As reported by The Manchester Evening News, a year-long loan deal has been agreed between the two clubs with Fish happy to spend another season north of the border.

The centre-back largely impressed during his spell in Scotland last year and will be hoping to continue his good form.

Fish started the last 17 games of his loan spell under Lee Johnson, who was keen to extend the defender’s stay at Easter Road.

After attracting interest from Championship and League One clubs, as well as rival clubs in Scotland, United and Fish decided that he would continue his development at Hibernian.

Fish played the second half of United’s opening pre-season victory against Leeds yesterday and is expected to be in the travelling squad to face Lyon in Edinburgh next week.

The plan is then for him to stay in Scotland before joining up with the Hibs squad to continue pre-season with them in preparation for the new season.

Erik Ten Hag will no doubt be hoping for another season of progress from the young man, who is clearly highly thought of at Old Trafford.

Manchester United defender Will Fish is closing in on a return to Hibs ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Daily Record reports that Aberdeen are set to miss out on Fish, who they had earmarked as a defensive target for the upcoming campaign.

Fish played 21 games in the Scottish Premiership last term and managed to score three goals. 18 of his games came as a starter.

When on the pitch, Hibs only conceded 23 goals and kept an impressive seven clean sheets.

The Daily Record mentions, “The Easter Road club have agreed a deal with Manchester United which will see the 20-year-old defender return to the Scottish Premiership next season.”

“It is a major boost for boss Lee Johnson because he was one of his top summer targets.”

The Daily Record points out that United are impressed by the progress Fish displayed during his time with Hibs, and the Red Devils want his development to continue.

Fish will be crucial to Hibs as they attempt to book their slot in the Europa Conference League.

The Scottish giants are in the competition’s playoffs, following their third-placed finish after a win against St Mirren.

Fish is yet another case of a United youngster who enjoyed successful loan spell with his club last season.

Amad Diallo and Hannibal Mejbri are other examples. The Peoples Person covered a report which revealed that Erik ten Hag will decide the futures of the club’s academy stars after evaluating them during pre-season.

Some will be given the opportunity to impress the United boss during the scheduled tour.

Manchester United a number of crucial decisions to take with regards to the futures of several academy graduates — both currently at the club and loan stars.

A few like Amad Diallo, Hannibal Mejbri and Matej Kovar, all of whom have enjoyed fantastic loan spells, could potentially have the chance to impress Erik ten Hag and gain a first-team spot.

Then there is the future of players like Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe with both looking extremely likely to leave the club on a permanent basis.

Fish’s successful loan spell

Another academy star who has enjoyed a fruitful spell outside England and away from the spotlight is Will Fish, who spent the season with Hibernian in Scotland.

The Scottish Premier League side finished fifth with Fish playing 21 times across all competitions and even chipped in with three goals.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson has been impressed with the 20-year-old with Football Scotland revealing that the Easter Road outfit “did indeed want to keep hold of the starlet beyond the end of this season”.

However, the player is set to return to Manchester and he even said his goodbyes on social media.

The England U-19 international has also admitted that a return to Scotland is not beyond reason but has left the decision to the club.

“Yeah, definitely. It would be amazing to play for a club like this in Europe. I’m solely focusing on the next five games and people behind the scenes can work on my future and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season,” he was quoted as saying earlier.

Another loan spell or sold permanently to Hibs?

Fish did not have the smoothest of starts to life as a Hibernian player and there were even reports that the club could recall him from his temporary spell after seeing his struggles.

But he came into his own in the second-half of the season and went from strength to strength and the character he showed will impress the club’s coaches.

Ten Hag had taken him along for the pre-season schedule in Australia and even played him in one game, where he unfortunately got sent off.

The current competition for places at centre-back is very strong and Fish is unlikely to make a mark at this stage. But considering his age, a permanent move makes very little sense and another loan could be preferred.
