Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has sent a heartfelt message to Tony Mowbray after he was shockingly fired as Sunderland manager.

It was recently confirmed that the Black Cats fired Mowbray after 15 months in charge at the Stadium of Light.

His sacking came after Sunderland’s 1-1 draw against Millwall, which extended the club’s poor recent run to one win from their past five games.

Sunderland sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, said, “All at SAFC have thoroughly enjoyed working with Tony and he is quite rightly held in high regard by our players and staff, and our supporters. After arriving at an uncertain time, he helped guide us to the Championship playoffs and played an important role in developing our team.”

“This was a difficult decision to make, but we remain loyal to our ambition and our strategy, and felt that now was the right moment to take this step. We are now focused on identifying the right candidate and we will continue to support our coaching team and players throughout the interim period.”

Amad of course spent last season out on loan in the Championship with Sunderland. It was an incredibly successful loan spell in England’s second division.

The Ivorian managed an impressive 14 goals and three assists in 39 league matches.

Amad’s sensational performances earned him a spot in United’s pre-season tour travelling party.

He seemed set to feature prominently under Erik ten Hag this season but unfortunately, he sustained a knee injury that has kept him from playing even a single minute of competitive action this term.

It’s thought that his recovery is going well and the forward is not too far from making a return to the team in what would be a massive boost to United who are struggling in the right-wing position.

Amad of course struck a very close relationship with Mowbray while at Sunderland.

Mowbray frequently spoke highly of the United star’s abilities and praised him in public.

After Mowbray was fired from his role as Sunderland manager, Amad took to social media and wrote, “Thanks boss and good luck.”

Mike Dodds will temporarily take over from Mowbray pending the appointment of a new head coach.

No Man United fans likes an international break, but this one is a blessing in disguise as time is desperately needed to get some injured warriors back on the pitch.

Going into the break, the Red Devils’ injury list looked more like a team sheet missing only a goalkeeper, with 10 outfield players unavailable for selection.

However, by the time United kick off against Everton in their next match on November 26th, there is a chance that some of those names will be available for selection again.

This is, as we understand it, the likely return order for the walking wounded.

Everton, 26th November

Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the Luton game with illness and so should be back.

Amad Diallo could be available. He was last spotted around a week ago in individual training on the grass, which should put team training around now, and full fitness potentially in time for Everton. However, match fitness is another issue and while he could find himself on the bench at Goodison, he is more likely to be eased in with a guest appearance in the U18’s match at Southampton the day before.

Galatasaray, 29th November

Rasmus Hojlund’s thigh strain is thought to be mild and a November return has been mooted. It’s a race against time for the Gala game, with Everton likely to be too soon.

Newcastle United, 2nd December

Tyrell Malacia could just pip Luke Shaw to win the race of the recovering left backs and be available for this one as he returns after summer surgery.

Chelsea, 6th December

Luke Shaw’s return has been touted for the end of November but to our knowledge, there have been no sightings of him back in training yet. This puts him at least 2 weeks away and we think the Chelsea match is realistically the first real chance for the England man.

Liverpool, 17th December

Jonny Evans – a club statement on 10th November said Evans will be out for “a few weeks” with a thigh strain, so this could mean a mid-December return.

Christian Eriksen – on November 13th we were told Eriksen’s knee injury would keep him out for around a month, so a return against Liverpool also looks possible at this stage for the Dane.

Nottingham Forest, 30th December or FA Cup 3rd round, 7th January

Ten Hag has said that Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, United’s two longest term injuries, will not be back before Christmas. The turn of the year will hopefully see them back on the pitch.

Permanently out

Jadon Sancho is not injured but exiled following a row with Ten Hag and is expected to be sold or loaned out in January. Unless there is a major rapprochement, he is highly unlikely to play again for the club.

Amad Diallo has not kicked a ball for Manchester United this season but it is not stopping clubs from targeting him for a January loan deal.

Amad sustained a knee injury during the pre-season tour that curtailed his bid to impress manager Erik ten Hag and convince him to keep him at Old Trafford this season rather than send him back out on loan.

The Ivorian is working his way back to fitness and is now back on the grass, but is yet to join team training, the final step before playing again.

Last week rumours emerged of Leicester City rekindling their summer interest in Amad and they will be competing with Wolverhampton Wanderers, if a new report is to be believed.

According to footballtransfers.com, “Wolves have already contacted the Old Trafford club over the possibility of a loan deal for the 21-year-old, having scouted the player during the reign of Nuno Espirito Santo back in 2021.

“Although they missed out on the starlet at that point, with Atalanta accepting Man Utd’s €21 million offer for the player, Wolves have continued to follow Amad and even made an approach for him in 2022 following his loan spell at Rangers.”

Whether or not the flying winger will be made available by United is an interesting question.

At the start of the season he looked to be fourth or fifth in the right wing pecking order at the club, behind Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and, arguably, Facundo Pellistri.

However, Elanga moved to Nottingham Forest and Sancho is expected to leave on loan himself in January after falling out with Ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Antony is struggling for form and Pellistri does not seem fancied by Ten Hag, who despite all the other issues has given him just 291 minutes of football all season.

Amad set the Championship alight last season during his loan stint at Sunderland and the stars could now be aligning for him to make his push for the United first team.

At 21, both he and Pellistri are at, or close to, the make-or-break age for young talent at United and the crisis at the club could offer the perfect time for a showdown between the two to see which, if either, will make the grade.

This could leave Wolves and Leicester disappointed when the transfer window opens in January.

Championship side Leicester City could finally materialize their interest in Manchester United winger Amad Diallo in January to bolster their ranks.

Amad has not tasted any minutes this season courtesy of an injury he picked up during a pre-season clash against Arsenal.

The Ivorian featured frequently during the tour and looked set to play a big part in Erik ten Hag’s plans for the 2023/24 campaign but his progress was halted by the injury.

United recently provided an update on Amad’s progress and indicated that he is back training on the grass, suggesting a return to competitive action is not too far away.

The Red Devils have struggled for goals this season, with the forwards currently available to Ten Hag barely firing.

In particular, Antony has been far from inspiring this term and already looks like a waste of money. Against Fulham, the Brazilian was taken off and was booed by supporters who were clearly disgruntled with his performance.

His replacement, Facundo Pellistri contributed much more and even registered an assist for Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning goal.

Amad Diallo could just be the solution Ten Hag needs. When he returns, a decision must be made with respect to the winger’s immediate future. That is, whether to send him out on loan or keep him at Old Trafford.

Owing to his heroics with Sunderland last term, Amad is unlikely to be short of suitors keen on landing his services.

According to Football League World, Leicester could be a possible destination for the United star. It’s understood that the Foxes retain a long-term admiration for the player and would be happy to have him as they seek Premier League promotion.

Amad’s arrival at the King Power Stadium would reportedly constitute part of a “dream” January transfer window for Enzo Maresca’s side if they elect to pursue the dazzling forward.

As per Football League World, it is highly unlikely that Leicester would turn up their noses at Amad, and could jump at the opportunity to sign the 21-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.

Manchester United have confirmed that Amad Diallo has taken a major step towards his return from injury with the player now back training on the grass.

Amad sustained a knee injury during United’s pre-season clash against Arsenal in the United States.

It was a big blow for the Ivorian, who featured heavily in Erik ten Hag’s team selections during the pre-season tour.

Late last month, Amad took to social media and informed supporters that his comeback was not far away.

United have now given a huge update on the 21-year-old.

In a video posted by the club, Amad is seen running on the grass. He appears to be moving comfortably while undertaking running drills at Carrington.

United confirm via the club’s official website that the forward will not be immediately thrust into competitive action but will be slowly introduced back to ensure the physical setback he picked up is not aggravated.

Amad’s imminent return to the team will come as a massive boost to Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils who are struggling for goals this season.

Between Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri, United have only managed one goal in the Premier League – a shocking return to say the least.

In particular, United have struggled in the right-wing spot. Antony has been extremely poor this season and with Sancho suspended, Bruno Fernandes has frequently been forced to occupy that position.

It’s unsurprising that the Portuguese, who is naturally a playmaker, has not been able to make an impact from the right.

During United’s 0-3 loss at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday, Fernandes’ display was below-par and attracted heavy criticism from the likes of Gary Neville and Roy Keane, who even suggested the player should be stripped of the captaincy.

Amad could just be the solution Ten Hag needs. Last season while out on loan with Sunderland, he notched an impressive 14 goals and three assists.

With patience in Antony wearing thin among supporters, there is definitely a path for Amad to come in and nail down a regular starting berth.

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly not far from making a return to Erik ten Hag’s line-up, ahead of their must-win clash against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday.

Mainoo was United’s breakout star of pre-season but received a blow when he picked up an injury during a friendly game vs. Real Madrid.

He returned to training during the October international break. During his presser before the Sheffield United match, Ten Hag told reporters that the Englishman was not fit enough to feature at Bramall Lane, although he was nearing a return to action.

Manchester Evening News have provided an update on Mainoo and indicated that he could be available for selection to face FC Copenhagen.

“Mainoo’s return to the United line-up is on the horizon after the young midfielder featured in training. There had been hope he would feature against the Blades but he was not a member of the squad,” the outlet says.

Another player expected to be included in the starting XI is Sergio Reguilon.

Unlike Mainoo, the Spaniard was a surprise exclusion from the matchday squad that travelled to face Paul Heckingbottom’s men on Saturday.

MEN states on Reguilon, “The issue with the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender is not thought to be serious and he should be making a return to the line-up shortly after a good start at Old Trafford.”

Against the Blades, Jonny Evans formed a solid centre-back partnership with Harry Maguire in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane who was on the bench, seemingly not yet fully fit after a brief period on the sidelines.

There were concerns when Evans – who has started well at United during his second spell – went down and had to be replaced by Varane.

However, it’s understood that he was only substituted as a precaution and it was nothing serious.

The North Ireland international should be good to play in the Champions League this week as United look to get out of their group and proceed to the next round of the competition.

Ten Hag will not be able to count on the services of Casemiro who is still in Brazil recovering from a physical setback sustained during the international break.

In any case, the 31-year-old was suspended after being red-carded against Galatasaray.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw remain long-term absentees.

Wan-Bissaka who suffered a hamstring injury could return in November, with Shaw a little bit further away from making a comeback.

As per MEN, there is a real possibility that Martinez has played his last game of the year, with January 2024 looking like a realistic return period for the World Cup winner.

With respect to Amad Diallo, “The young winger has been posting updates on his social media channels documenting his progress. He has been training which suggests a return may not be far off but a time frame has not been revealed yet.”

Sunderland are reportedly interested in taking Manchester United starlet, Amad Diallo, back on loan in January.

Mark Douglas (inews) contends the Championship side would be keen to strike a deal if the winger is “made available for loan” in the upcoming transfer window.

Amad is currently recovering from an injury sustained during United’s pre-season tour of America. Recent updates from the player himself indicate his return is growing closer.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Ivorian will be able to carve out a place in Erik ten Hag’s squad upon his return.

Antony has returned to the squad following his leave of absence, while Facundo Pellistri appears to have been rewarded for his patience by the Dutch manager in the last few months.

Ten Hag has also deployed Bruno Fernandes on the right-hand side in recent games, in an effort to produce a more balanced and defensively sound midfield. Though this attempt has not necessarily worked, it still constitutes another option Amad has to contend with in the squad at present.

One key figure the winger will not be competing against, however, is Jadon Sancho.

Sancho continues to be ostracised from the United first-team following his public dispute with Ten Hag. Reports emanating from Carrington suggest this disagreement is no closer to a resolution, with rumours linking Sancho with his own loan move.

Should Sancho depart in January, Ten Hag may wish to keep Amad at Old Trafford for depth purposes. Equally, the prodigiously talented winger may be able to force his way into a much more prominent role than a back-up, given no option – Antony, Pellistri or Fernandes – have impressed in their outings on the right.

Sunderland fans will be well-versed in Amad’s talents having watched him excel at the Stadium of Light and almost lead Sunderland to promotion last year.

The Ivorian returned fourteen goals and three assists in the Championship last season, delighting fans with his potent pairing of trickery and lethality in front of goal.

Amad’s performances were so good, in fact, that he was voted for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season.

It’s clear why Sunderland would be keen to see him return to the North East.

The Black Cats have reportedly “forged a good relationship” with United. Officials at Old Trafford were extremely pleased with how the North Eastern club dealt with Amad during last season’s loan, with the Wearside outfit having quickly established themselves as a haven for young players.

Tony Mowbray, Sunderland’s manager, is well-respected across English football as a proficient developer of young players who seeks to play an attractive style. Part of the reason why he was hired was to help Sunderland transition towards this new model. “Players and agents are starting to take notice,” one recruitment executive revealed to inews.

Sunderland will be hoping this burgeoning reputation will be enough to recapture the services of Amad as a late Christmas present for Mowbray.

While the results are showing improvement with back-to-back wins and clean sheets, the injury crisis at Manchester United is worsening by the day.

The defence, in particular, is reeling under the weight of long-term absentees and two more have joined the list adding to the headache of manager Erik ten Hag.

Already the club is without three of their top four full-backs and now loan signing Sergio Reguilon has been ruled out of action till the next international break.

United’s injury nightmare

Raphael Varane, who just made a comeback from injury, will not be having his usual partner Lisandro Martinez as the Argentine has suffered a recurrence of the foot injury he suffered last season.

While things are turning dire at the back, up front it is a different scene. On Friday, the club announced that Antony would be returning to the first-team squad which the manager confirmed during the pre-match press conference.

Now, it seems Amad Diallo is also closing in on a return to training with the winger writing on social media, “The return is soon.”

Ten Hag likes the left-footed player profile on the right wing and that is why he often selects Antony there despite his struggles as he can fulfill the manager’s exact tactical demands better than a right-footed winger.

With Jadon Sancho also out of the equation currently, the Dutchman has tried playing Facundo Pellistri there. The Uruguayan has worked hard, but is not quite the readymade product yet.

Amad nearing return to training

The Ivory Coast international will be a welcome addition to the squad and as per SportBible, the 21-year-old is “expected to make a full return to training after the October international break.”

Amad had enjoyed a fantastic season out on loan at Championship side Sunderland last season, where he single-handedly dragged the Black Cats to the Championship play-off semifinals.

He was adjudged to their Young Player of the Season and there was a lot of demand for his services in the summer, which United rebuffed as Ten Hag wanted to give the youngster a chance in the first-team.

However, an injury suffered during pre-season meant he has missed a lot of action with a possible surgery having taken place to fix the problem.

Back-to-back wins will have lifted the morale at Manchester United who are preparing to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League at home on Saturday

United had comprehensively beaten the Eagles in midweek in the Carabao Cup third-round game despite manager Erik ten Hag making plenty of changes.

While a few changes were made to give rest to key players, a few were forced due to injury and illness. And the manager is hopeful a few will be back for the weekend game.

Three players to be assessed ahead of Saturday

As per The Manchester Evening News, Sergio Reguilon, who was ill even before the Burnley game last week, has not trained at Carrington with the club trying to curb the spread of the infection.

Both Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen were supposed to be involved against the Eagles in the Carabao Cup but were taken ill before the game. All three will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s encounter.

Interestingly, Lisandro Martinez is said to be having difficulties with the injury he had suffered last season and he has since missed the last two games.

However, with Raphael Varane back in contention and with Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire enjoying decent outings, there might not be a need to risk his involvement for Saturday.

“Lisandro Martinez is still suffering from soreness in his right foot, having fractured a metatarsal bone against Sevilla in April. Martinez has missed the last two games but United sources insist his injury is not major.”

“Martinez could also be back this weekend but the return of Raphael Varane from injury leaves manager Erik ten Hag with four centre-backs to select from.”

Mainoo, Amad nearing return

As for long-term absentees, there is light at the end of the tunnel for academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo, both of whom suffered injuries during pre-season.

United have suffered in midfield in Mainoo’s absence and it goes on to show why the manager rates him so highly.

“Kobbie Mainoo’s comeback from an ankle injury could come after the October internationals to allow him sufficient recovery time.

“Amad is also expected to be available again once United’s season resumes after next month’s internationals.”

The Ivory Coast international’s return will add another option on the right wing with Ten Hag crying out for a left-footed player to take up the mantle.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has become the latest addition to a growing list of Manchester United first-team players out of action due to injury.

A report covered by The Peoples Person confirmed that Wan-Bissaka sustained a hamstring injury expected to keep him sidelined for around two months.

The Englishman picked up the injury when he came on from the bench in the late stages of his side’s 3-1 loss against Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Wan-Bissaka’s injury means that Erik ten Hag only has two fit senior full-backs at his disposal for the near future – Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot.

This is because Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are also nursing injuries of their own.

Shaw picked up a muscle injury before the international break. The nature of Malacia’s injury remains unspecified but just like Shaw, the Netherlands international is set for a prolonged period on the treatment table.

The other defender unavailable due to a physical setback is Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman came off at the interval during United’s 3-2 comeback win vs. Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

It was subsequently relayed that the World Cup winner would be out for around six weeks. In games against Arsenal and Brighton, Varane’s absence has certainly been felt considering just how fragile and vulnerable the Red Devils have been at the back.

In midfield, Ten Hag is not able to count on the services of new signing Sofyan Amrabat, nor Kobbie Mainoo or Mason Mount.

Amrabat is trying to shake off a back injury suffered while still contracted to Fiorentina. The Moroccan recently had to withdraw from international duty with the Atlas Lions as a precautionary measure taken so that his injury would not be aggravated further.

Mount had his new life at United curtailed by a hamstring injury.

Mainoo, who was pre-season’s breakout star, got hurt when the Red Devils came up against Real Madrid in the United States.

The Carrington academy graduate seemed destined for a key role under Ten Hag this season but he will have to wait a bit longer to get a chance to make a lasting impression both on his manager and supporters.

In the attacking department, Ten Hag is without Antony, Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo.

Antony was granted an indefinite leave of absence by the club amidst allegations of assault, causing bodily harm and issuing threats brought against him by different women.

Sancho on the other hand has been involved in a public spat with Ten Hag which culminated in the 23-year-old’s banishment from the first team until he issues an apology for challenging his manager and branding him a liar via a social media post.

Amad sustained a knee injury during United’s clash vs. Arsenal in pre-season.

Tom Heaton is also not available due to a calf injury.

All in all, there are 11 players who are not available either due to injuries or off-the-pitch issues. It’s certainly a lot for Ten Hag, let alone any manager to deal with.

While United’s performances so far this season have been unsatisfactory and below par, the 20-time English champions have not been aided by the number of key stars who are not available.

Ahead of the Bayern Munich match on Wednesday, Donny van de Beek is also not eligible to play. This is because the Dutch midfielder was not officially registered in United’s Champions League squad.

All the injuries certainly warrant questions being asked of the club’s medical and fitness department.

It’s understood that United are set to appoint Arsenal’s current head of medical services Gary O’Driscoll as their new Head of Sports Medicine.

O’Driscoll is renowned and highly respected within his field. In the face of an injury crisis, his expertise is desperately needed.
