Will Fish scored and put in another colossal display north of the border to help Hibernian to their third consecutive league win in the Scottish Premiership.

The English centre-back not only found the back of the net for a vital second but he also played a key role defensively in his side’s 2-0 victory.

It must be said that the host’s goal lived a charmed life at times as Hibernian rode their luck at Easter Road. The team from the Granite city had 23 shots on goals and missed a penalty. However, Fish played a key role in keeping a clean sheet for his side.

It has been reported recently by The Peoples Person that the Manchester-born defender is very happy in Scotland and has no interest in an immediate return to Old Trafford. In fact, the Edinburgh-based club are also strongly considering signing the youngster permanently due to his strong performances.

According to transfermarkt.com, the defender has now played 23 times for Hibernian this season in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Hibs won the game on Sunday 2-0. The team in green and white took the lead in the 18th minute when a long ball played by the keeper sent an attacker behind the Aberdeen defence and the ball was squared to Dylan Vente, who made no mistake. After a VAR check, the goal was given.

Interestingly for Manchester United fans, Fish had two big interventions. The first came in the form of a great piece of defensive work which saw the 20-year-old clear the ball off the line. The Aberdeen forward was sent one-on-one and hit the post. The ball rolled agonisingly across the line, and if it weren’t for Fish’s quick thinking in clearing the ball, Aberdeen would have surely found an equaliser.

The headline-grabbing moment came for the United academy product in the 70th minute. The centre-back rose like a salmon at the back post to nod in from a corner to give the Easter Road outfit a crucial 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.

The Englishman was heavily involved in the match beyond the goal and goal-line clearance, however. Fish was credited with an outstanding score of 8.5 from Sofascore.

The defender has regularly scored over seven this season but yesterday’s 8.5 was a personal best for the season. The youngster put in an imperious defensive display as Aberdeen often laid siege to the Edinburgh-based side’s goal.

Fish was a wall at the back as he had an incredible 12 clearances and two blocked shots. The defender put in a monstrous performance in the air, winning eight out of his nine aerial duals. The physically imposing defender also completed two tackles in the game.

The academy player scored from his one shot on goal and was also involved with the build-up as he completed 37 out of his attempted 48 passes to finish with a passing accuracy of 77% for the afternoon.

The young defender certainly seems to be finding his stride for the team in green and white and it is little wonder the side from Easter Road would love to keep him after the summer. With United’s own defenders flailing this season, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Fish beyond this season, especially if he can continue impressing in Scotland.

Alvaro Fernandez has stated in another recent interview that Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, did not count on him for the season and that is why he is consequently on loan at Granada.

Despite only featuring for seven minutes off the bench versus Real Madrid last night, the young Spaniard has followed up a great loan spell at Preston with a admirable performances for struggling Granada and the Spanish under-21 team.

The Peoples Person also reported this week that the young defender told COPE radio station that in spite of playing further forward on occasion this season, he knows his true position is left back. The youngster also talked at length about his long journey from Galicia to Madrid and eventually to Manchester at only 17 years old.

Speaking to The Athletic however, the young United defender has gone into more details on some points that will surely interest Red Devils fans. The Galician asserted that Ten Hag did not count on him at the start of the season and this is the reason for his late in the window move to the south of Spain.

The defender claimed, “what message did United give me? That I should go out on loan, that Ten Hag didn’t count on me, that I should continue to gain experience, rhythm, and we’ll see what happens in the future”. The United youngster also talked about how the deal “in the end, it was done at the last minute”.

Nonetheless, it must also be said that the young fullback also stated that “my main objective is to return to United and make a place for myself there.”

Interestingly, the man from Ferrol went into detail about his move to Old Trafford. “At that time, we were in lockdown (as the Covid-19 pandemic continued). We had a video call with the Manchester United bosses, the scouts who are here in Spain, and they were translating for me, because I had no idea of English. What I saw was that I wanted to take the next step, and I wasn’t going to do it in Madrid.”

The youngster claimed that despite the initial language barrier, he was able to fit in well at Old Trafford. “Manchester is completely different (to Real Madrid). You lived with the professionals — you’d go down for breakfast and you’d bump into Rashford”. The player also claimed that being surrounded by Spanish speakers such as Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani also helped him settle at the club.

The Spanish under 21 international also commented on his luck in hitting form right away when he came arrived to Old Trafford and spoke about his pride in winning the reserve team player of the year award in May 2022.

The attacking fullback also spoke about how he chose to go to Preston on loan as he wanted to adapt more to English football and focus on improving his defending. He said of the choice to move to Deepdale, “I was lucky enough to be in Madrid’s youth academy and (there) it was ‘attack, attack and attack’. Since I arrived in England, I have focused more defensively because it was my point to improve.”

The youngster also beamed about his time at Preston. He claims to have loved every minute where he got what he wanted, competing regularly against adult men. He also praised the close connection the players had in the dressing room. He explained, “I loved it, I left very happy. On top of that I had a team, a close-knit family. We had an incredible dressing room.”

The Spaniard finished by coyly commenting that even though breaking into the Manchester United senior team is his main objective, he has no idea where he might end up. Fernandez discussed about how he has two years left on his contract at United and he does not know what the future will hold for himself and his career.

“My objective is Manchester, of course, but it’s such a crazy game that maybe next year I’ll be in Germany or Italy or Spain. You never know.”

What is for sure, The Peoples Person and United fans will continue to keep a keen eye on his progress in the south of Spain this season.

Brandon Williams was only on the pitch 13 minutes, but he had a chaotic afternoon where he scored an own goal and received a yellow card.

Nonetheless, the Manchester United loanee was on the winning side, as Ipswich Town defeated Coventry City 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The victory consolidates the Tractor Boys’ second place position in the Championship table, only one point behind Leicester City. The team from East Anglia have an impressive 14 wins from 19 and have amassed 45 points so far.

This is an incredible rise and a testament to the work former United coach, Kieran McKenna, is doing at the club. Just under two years ago, when the former United first team coach took over the club, they were languishing in the bottom reaches of League One. Now, they find themselves in a clear second place and dreaming of promotion to Premier League.

Unfortunately, it was not such a good night for another member of the Ipswich squad with a United connection. Williams has enjoyed a rather successful loan so far, scoring an incredible solo goal in October and regularly scoring above 7 on Sofascore for his performances in a blue shirt.

The defender has played 14 times for the Portman Road outfit and scored two goals, while picking up five yellow cards according to transfermarkt.com.

Even last week, in defeat, The Peoples Person reported that the English fullback played admirably in spite of the Tractor Boys’ loss.

When Williams came on in the 77th, to replace Harry Clark at right back, Ipswich were cruising to a win. A great through ball and one-on-one finish from George Hirst in the sixth minute and an outrageous outside of the boot curler from Wes Burns, just before half-time, had put the team from the east of England in control.

The versatile full-back had a torrid short spell of action, however. In the 96th minute, the United defender headed the ball into his own net under slight pressure from the Coventry attacker. Luckily for his team, the game ended soon after.

A deep dive into Williams statistics for the game, during his brief spell on the pitch, don’t make for particularly pleasant reading. According to Sofascore, he achieved a 5.8 rating and was given a yellow card, to go alongside his clear own goal.

The loanee had zero blocked shots, zero interceptions and failed in his one dribble attempt. Furthermore, he made zero tackles and made one foul, which resulted in a caution.

The defender did win one of his three ground duels and did touch the ball nine times, with a 100% pass accuracy. This must be seen in the context though, that he only made five passes.

This is also not the defender’s first own goal of the season. The man who has played 51 times for the Man United also had the misfortune to put the ball into his own net on his full debut back in August, as reported here.

The English defender will be hoping for a quick turnaround in fortunes when the Tractor Boys travel to Middlesbrough next Saturday afternoon.

Not all Manchester United academy graduates enjoy a lightning start to their footballing career like Marcus Rashford. Plenty have had to rely on the loan system to get up to speed.

David Beckham was a famous example of what the system can produce while last season, Amad Diallo was a raging success during his Championship spell at Sunderland.

This season, United’s La Liga loanees — Alvaro Fernandez and Mason Greenwood have enjoyed success but the same cannot be said of Charlie McNeill, who has struggled for game time in League One and is set to be recalled in January.

Fish excelling on loan

Someone who could earn a permanent move away from Old Trafford thanks to his displays during the temporary spell is Will Fish, currently plying his trade for Hibernian.

Recently, The Peoples Person reported that the centre-back has no interest in returning to Manchester in January as he feels he can progress further in the Scottish league.

Now, according to The Edinburgh News, Hibs are interested in a permanent deal for the United academy star should he continue to improve as he has done so far this term.

The 20-year-old has been an ever-present member of Nick Montgomery’s side, playing in 22 out of their 23 games in all competitions this season.

Hibs are currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership and Fish has played a major role in their rise up the table. So much so that Montgomery wants to keep him permanently.

“I would love to keep Will, not just this season but on a permanent deal. The kid is still just 20 years old, and he’s growing every week. I think his performances belie his age. He plays like a seasoned professional.

“We’re really lucky to have him at the club. And he loves playing for Hibs, loves the club and the boys. Hopefully he’s with us for the season – and who knows what will happen after that?”

The Hibs boss not only praised the centre-back’s displays during matches but also his application during training and how he was “low maintenance”, which is high praise for a youngster in today’s day and age.

Hibs want Fish permanently

“To watch him in training every day and see the effort he puts into games, he’s really low maintenance. I think he’s got a massive future ahead of him.”

Fish has made his share of mistakes but as the manager pointed out, he is the first to try and rectify his error and puts in 100 percent every time.

Interestingly, the manager also added that when the United youngster first arrived, his ball-playing skills were not up to scratch.

But continuous game-time and training has now seen the youngster drive into midfield and break the lines with his passing.

Whether Erik ten Hag has plans for him remains to be seen. Fish has excelled in both his loan spells at Hibs and it is high time a call on his future, whether at United or anywhere else, is taken.

Fish had made his United debut under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was even included in the pre-season squad when Ten Hag was first appointed manager.

The post Alvaro Fernandez states that he knows his position is left back despite deputising as a winger for Granada appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

Alvaro Fernandez has stated that he is happy at Granada but that his natural position is as a left back.

The young Spanish defender has given an interview this week to Spanish radio network, COPE.

The Peoples Person has kept track of the young United defender’s loan and despite a tough season for Granada which sees them lie 19th in the table, the young talent is enjoying a productive season for the rojiblancos.

The interview began with the player clearing up some doubts about his name. The defender’s full name is Álvaro Fernández Carreras however, he is called something different in England and in Spain. “The truth is, in England, they called me Fernandez because it is my first surname, but I have always preferred the second”. Hence, he is known as “Carreras” in Granada.

The interviewer also commented on the many kilometres the player has had to travel to try and accomplish his dream of being a professional footballer. Born in Ferral in Galicia, in the north-west of Spain, the player moved to first Deportivo La Coruña and then later Real Madrid, before relocating to Manchester in 2020. All in his first 17 years of life.

The defender said, “the truth is leaving home so soon matures you a lot, but following a dream of being footballer, I will go where it is needed”.

However, this weekend takes him to a familiar stomping ground. Tomorrow will be a special moment for the United academy product as his Granada side travel to the Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid. The defender talked about how it was a “privilege” to represent a giant club like Madrid but at the same time, he is one hundred percent focused on getting the win for his current side.

Although, it hasn’t been all plain-sailing for the young Spaniard as he has had to adapt to a new city, a struggling team, a managerial change and also playing in unfamiliar roles. It has been reported here that the young defender had to play in a more offensive left winger position versus Alaves in Granada’s last outing in La Liga.

The defender touched upon the subject in the interview stating, “I will always help wherever the team needs me but well, I’m a full back, I came to Spain as a full back, but later, the coaches put you in different positions and you need to give it all”.

The defender gave a professional answer but it does not seem he is particularly enamoured by the idea of playing further forward. It will be fascinating to see in which position the youngster lines up in on Saturday at the Bernabeu.

Interestingly for United fans, the player revealed that the Red Devils have the option to bring him back next month in the winter market. Fernandez claimed that, “in football, I think you can’t make long term plans. I know that this year I’m here, well, United have the option of taking me back at Christmas but now it’s my commitment to help this team”.

With Luke Shaw recently returning from injury, Sergio Reguilon as backup and Tyrell Malacia not too far away either, the left back position at United seems quite crowded at present.

Finally, the young defender spoke of his pride in representing his national team and having the chance to train with the senior Spanish team. As reported by The Peoples Person, the Spaniard has regularly played for the under-21 Spanish side and played a significant role in their recent victories.

He said, “it’s always a pleasure and a feeling of pride to defend your country and especially come across people you like and get on well with from other clubs”.

It will be intriguing to view what the future holds for the young player and all United fans will be hoping that he continues to progress as he has been. However, hopefully in the right position for his and the club’s sake.

Manchester United defender, Will Fish, has stated that he has no desire to return to his parent club just yet as he is very happy with life in Scotland.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the on loan defender “loves” being at Hibernian and thinks the club have a realistic chance of breaking into the top three of Scottish football.

The centre-back has already played 22 times this season for the Edinburgh-based club and he is clearly a key part of the team. Sofascore regularly awards the player a rating of over 7 and he was even credited with a 7.7 performance versus Dundee last month.

The English defender’s contract at United runs until summer 2025 and his parent club have the right to cut short his loan at Easter Road if they see fit.

Asked about this fact, Fish replied, “I think they do but to be honest with you, those discussions haven’t been had yet. It’s not something that I’m actively looking to do.”

The 20 year old also claims he feels one hundred percent settled at the club and he is enjoying the style of football being played in the Scottish capital. He also believes that Hibs are on the right track.

Fish praised his team and manager stating, “If I stay here, that’s something that I would love to do [reach the top 3]. It’s still pretty early in the season but under the gaffer, his coaching team and the way he wants to play, I think a few more tweaks and building on leads, we can easily push for the third spot.”

The Scottish paper is full of praise for Fish, claiming he is gaining invaluable experience like last weekend when his team were 2-0 up but had a man sent off for the final 28 minutes and they had to dig deep to grind out a victory.

This sort of experience is vital for youngsters trying to make it in professional football.

Quizzed on the performance at the weekend the young defender replied, “I thought we defended well, especially when we were down to 10 men. That’s what it takes to get three points in this league. If we want to go far then we’ve got to do that more often”.

Due to the red card, the United youngster had to play in an unfamiliar right back role and despite feeling a bit lost, the player stated that he was happy to play there if the manager needed him to.

No doubt Fish will be aiming to break into the Manchester United team at some stage, especially as a local lad. However, after two successful loan spells north of the border, he is no rush for that happen right now as he is loving his football in the Scottish capital.

Manchester United’s academy did the team proud on Sunday as they eased their way to a 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Selling multiple youth team stars in the summer might have shown manager Erik ten Hag in poor light but the fact is he gives opportunities to the youngsters but only if they earn it.

Alejandro Garnacho scored possibly the goal of the season with a perfectly-timed overhead kick while Kobbie Mainoo excelled in his first-ever start in the league.

McNeill’s difficult loan

Both have shown that the manager does trust the youth. This season has also seen Hannibal Mejbri play multiple games in midfield while Dan Gore also made his debut for the first team during the Carabao Cup game against Crystal Palace.

Another academy graduate who had made his first team debut under the Dutchman is Charlie McNeill, who came on as a substitute in the Europa League last season.

This summer, he was not part of the pre-season squad as a loan move was in the works and the 20-year-old subsequently earned a move to League One side Stevenage.

His loan spell began in promising fashion as the striker scored on his debut but has managed to play only three games so far this season, totaling 163 minutes of action.

As per The Manchester Evening News, United are not too pleased with how the temporary spell is going and are set to activate the break clause in January and bring him back to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United are planning to recall Charlie McNeill from his loan at Stevenage in the January transfer window. McNeill signed for Stevenage on a season-long loan in September, but he’s made just three appearances.

“The Manchester Evening News understands he will be recalled due to his lack of game time. The striker has struggled for minutes at Stevenage despite making a bright start and the break clause in his loan will be activated.”

Mcneill to be recalled

All loanees usually have a break clause included in their contracts with United monitoring their performances before deciding whether it needs to be triggered or not.

The report mentions that once the England U-16 international is back at Carrington, another loan move might be arranged after discussions.

Last season, McNeill had earned a loan move to Newport County in League Two and had made 20 appearances while scoring twice. It was thought that he would kick on this season but it has not worked out so far.

Currently, United are struggling for goals and injuries and there might be a surprise place on offer if the FA Youth Cup winner can sufficiently impress upon his return.

Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams put up an impressive individual display despite his side, Ipswich Town, suffering a 2-0 loss at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.

Goals in either half from Darnell Furlong and Grady Diangana were enough to secure the win and clinch all three points for West Brom at their own home.

Williams started on the right side of a backline also consisting of Leif Davis, Cameron Burgess and Luke Woolfenden.

The result has left Kieran McKenna’s men in second place in the Championship standings, three points adrift of table-leading Leicester City and seven points ahead of Leeds United.

It was only Ipswich’s second loss of the campaign.

During the time he was on the pitch, Williams made two crucial clearances.

He blocked one shot and made two key interceptions.

The United academy graduate came up with four tackles against the Baggies. He was dribbled past on three occasions – an aspect of the game he will undoubtedly be keen to improve on.

Williams won four of the eight ground duels he delved into.

Aerially, the Tractor Boys required Williams to contest two challenges in the air. He came out on top both times.

The 23-year-old won just a single foul. He registered 79 touches of the ball to his name.

Williams successfully delivered 51 of the 58 total passes he attempted, managing a pass success rate of 88%.

The defender tried to ping 7 long balls to his teammates. He found his target in four instances.

(Stats obtained from Sofascore)

The United star is certainly enjoying life in England’s second flight. In 11 appearances in the Championship so far, Williams has scored two goals and kept four clean sheets.

Alvaro Fernandez and Granada fell to a 3-1 defeat against Alaves in the Basque country yesterday. However, the young Spanish defender put in another solid display until he was subbed off in the 62nd minute.

Interestingly the 20 year old was deployed as a left winger, rather than a left back. Followers of United’s academy will know that the Galician excels going forward but it will still be seen as a curious decision to play a defender by trade so far up the pitch.

The match itself was disappointing for Granada as they slipped to another defeat which sees them fall to 19th in the league and flirting heavily with relegation. The Andalusian outfit have only one win from 14 La Liga games and have collected a meagre seven points.

Despite this, United’s young loanee continues to put in good performances and is picking up invaluable experience in one of the toughest competitions in world football.

Sofascore gave the defender a 6.5 rating for his 62 minutes of work on Friday night. The former Madrid player had another accurate night when it came to his passing statistics.

The youngster recently impressed on international duty in this field and he continued his pinpoint passing completing 17 from 21 with an accuracy rate of 81%.

The player was able to show off his impressive passing with a completed long ball during the game. Again, this is even more praiseworthy when you consider he was playing in an unfamiliar advanced role.

The Spanish under-21 international had one shot off target and tossed in two crosses but neither met their intended target. The United player was also able to complete one of his two dribble attempts. Unfortunately, Fernandez was not much of a goal threat has he had a 0.03xG stat for goals and a 0.02xA for assists. This probably can’t be held against a 20 year old defender playing as a winger however.

Resulting from his positional rearrangement, the young defender did not carry out as much defensive work as usual. He was successful in two out of his three ground duals and his one aerial duel according to Sofascore. However, the man from Ferrol did not have any blocks, interceptions or tackles in the entire time he was on the pitch.

Truth be told, despite Granada having the lion’s share of possession and more shots, the Basque side ripped them to shreds on the counter in the first hour. Man United fans will be pleased to learn that the young Spanish left back was not really at fault for any of the goals.

The United academy player did miss a tackle in the build up to the first goal, but this was well inside Alaves’ half, and there was ample time to stop the Basque’s rapid counter.

What will matter most to Fernandez however is gametime. The defender has already represented Granada ten times this term and will aim to build on this heavy involvement over the course of the season.

Fernandez’s rojiblancos have to pick themselves up after a 1536km round trip from the south of Spain to the northern coast and back again.

Next up is the small matter of Real Madrid. When los Blancos come to town, the world is usually watching. Alvaro Fernandez will be hoping he can put on a show and catch Erik ten Hag’s eye with an impressive display, be it at full back or winger.

The noise around Mason Greenwood is set to reach a crescendo after the Manchester United loanee put in a world-class performance again.

Starting for Getafe against Almeria, Greenwood scored a wondergoal and was involved throughout in Getafe’s best attacking moments in their victory.

Before being subbed off in the 89th minute as Getafe sought to save their one-goal advantage, Greenwood was the brightest spark in the team.

It started off in the 33rd minute when Getafe were trailing against La Liga’s bottom team at the point.

Greenwood picked up the ball in the right half-space and unleashed a drive into the far corner to bring them back level.

The goal set social media ablaze but even beyond that, his attacking footprints were all over the game.

He had 47 touches of the ball as his role was to mainly stay up top and influence the game with his attacking talents, something he did perfectly.

He played one key pass, again, from that right half-space where he could cut in and use his left foot to create chances.

He completed 23/30 passes as he was the one mainly at the end of the attacking moves instead of playing as an orchestrator. (Stats courtesy of Sofascore)

As he has got his match fitness back, the signs of the old Mason Greenwood, the player, have started coming back.

This game was the perfect summation of his comeback as he played the full 90, had a goal contribution, and was a thorn in the opposition’s defence throughout, producing a jaw-dropping moment.

United supporters are undoubtedly following every move of his but it is more a case of “What if” as it is unlikely that he ever plays for the club again, regardless of his on-pitch contribution and ability.
