Manchester United suffered their 10th loss of the current campaign against Newcastle United on Saturday, a match that highlighted the gulf in class between the two sides at the moment.

Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge has not gone according to plan with the players letting the manager down while his own ideas are not working anymore.

Injuries have not helped matters with the defence struggling the most with the Red Devils conceding the second-most goals in the Champions League group stages, which has meant they are in danger of not qualifying for the knockout stage.

United have missed Lisandro

Lisandro Martinez’s absence has been most keenly felt with the club missing the aggressive presence of the Argentine and his ability to kickstart attacks from the back.

Luke Shaw was played as the centre-back against Newcastle and while he was one of the better performers on the night, he was not as aggressive as the World Cup winner.

The former Ajax star had suffered a recurrence of the same injury that had derailed his previous season and the defender had to undergo yet another operation.

He had made a return during pre-season but since he had not fully recovered, his form suffered as a result, and even though the defender took painkillers to try and play on, it eventually proved to be too much.

Martinez has been spotted back in Carrington, walking comfortably while kicking a football and watching his teammates during training.

But the United coaching team are wary of thrusting him back into action too soon and are prepared to wait until next year even to start playing the 25-year-old.

ETH wary of throwing Lisandro into the deep end too soon

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Ten Hag is aware that the injury was a serious one and that the club is not taking any risks this time concerning his recuperation.

“Lisandro Martínez’s injury is not a normal problem,” the Italian wrote in his CaughtOffside Substack column. “It’s a big setback for the club and so Man United staff are being very careful with the player.

“His recovery is going well and Lisandro is doing good, but he’s not ready yet and the club won’t force anything. They will keep waiting until Martínez feels 100 per cent ready to play football again.”

United fans will be hoping to get Martinez back fully fit so that the Argentina international can try and salvage the campaign to some extent at least.

Manchester United secured their third win on the trot in the Premier League, comfortably easing past Everton 3-0 on Sunday at Goodison Park.

It was a night where Alejandro Garnacho stole all the headlines with a worthy winner of the goal of the season award as he executed a perfectly-timed bicycle kick in the third minute of the game.

Marcus Rashford started on the right and managed to score as he dispatched a penalty won by Anthony Martial while the Frenchman scored the third on the night.

Antony injury

All three forwards got in on the act, which will please manager Erik ten Hag as he has seen his team struggle in front of goal all season.

The perfect performance from the attacking trio came on a night when Antony was deemed not match-fit enough after picking up a knock.

It was expected that the Brazil international would be starting the game due to the number of injuries in the squad as striker Rasmus Hojlund missed out after picking up a knock prior to the international break.

United’s injury problems are only getting worse as the former Ajax winger joined the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez just to name a few on the sidelines.

“Antony picked up a knock in training and is not quite match-fit,” The Athletic reporter Carl Anka tweeted ahead of the game. There is no clarity regarding the seriousness of the injury and when he will be back.

The Brazilian has not managed a single goal or assist so far and has been dogged by off-field controversies. His performances have been so dire that there have been reports suggesting he could be leaving despite being the record buy of the club.

Antony’s absence forced the management to include academy striker Joe Hugill in the matchday squad.

Injuries piling up ahead of congested fixtures list

Rashford played on the right and scored a goal and showed glimpses of building up a decent partnership with Diogo Dalot and it will be a difficult task for the Brazilian to reclaim a starting berth once he is ready.

Ten Hag has been desperate to see his wingers and strikers get on the scoresheet and the display will instill a lot more confidence among the attackers, who prior to the encounter against the Toffees, had scored only once this season.

Ten Hag will be desperate for his injured stars to return as soon as possible as the team braces for a make-or-break week with a do-or-die contest against Galatasaray in the Champions League coming up.

United will then feature in a huge clash against Newcastle United in the league ahead of a congested festive fixture list.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has insisted that more thorough examinations and tests have to be conducted before reaching a conclusive verdict on Mason Mount’s fitness.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that Mount sustained an injury ahead of United’s clash against Everton.

The Red Devils are set to travel to Goodison Park to take on the Toffees on Sunday.

During his presser, Ten Hag provided an update on the availability of a number of stars.

The Dutchman explained that Luke Shaw is in contention to start after a number of weeks on the sidelines. Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford are also expected to feature.

Ten Hag further noted that while Rasmus Hojlund trained with his teammates, a late decision will be made regarding whether the Danish striker will play a part against Sean Dyche’s men.

It was relayed that Mount could have picked up a calf injury that could rule him out of action vs. Everton and perhaps for some time.

But Ten Hag spoke to club media and said about the 24-year-old midfielder, “Mason picked up an issue so we have to assess if he’s available for the game or not.”

The manager’s comments could possibly be indicative of the fact that Mount’s injury is not very serious and he may not be out for too long.

Nevertheless, fans will be waiting with bated breath to find out the exact nature and extent of the England international’s setback.

If he is indeed ruled out, Mount will join a good chunk of his teammates who are also recovering.

Some of these players include Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has suffered a fresh injury blow.

Mount who joined United in the summer from Chelsea saw his start to life at Old Trafford hindered just two games into the Premier League campaign when he sustained a hamstring injury during his side’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Englishman had to endure a period on the sidelines while recovering and missed a number of crucial games for the Red Devils.

He made his return during United’s Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace on September 26th and even registered an assist for Casemiro’s girl.

However, since then, Mount has struggled to break into Ten Hag’s starting XI, with the manager preferring a midfield trio of Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay in a slightly advanced role.

During United’s clash against Luton Town just before the November international break, Mount came in for the injured Eriksen and produced a masterclass in the middle of the park that he would have hoped put him in Ten Hag’s thinking for a starting berth.

According to Romano, it’s now unlikely that the 24-year-old will get a chance to make an impact as he is now injured.

The Italian journalist reports, “Mason Mount picked up an injury as tests took place today in order to understand for how long he won’t be available.”

“Mount, determined to work hard and return as soon as possible after unfortunate beginning of the season.”

As per Insider United, an X account user who has proven to be credible with respect to physical setbacks suffered by United players, Mount has a calf injury.

If true, Mount will become the latest addition to an extensive list of absentees currently consisting of the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

There are also doubts about whether Rasmus Hojlund will be fit enough to feature against Everton on Sunday.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given bittersweet news on the injury front ahead of their clash against Everton.

While Rasmus Hojlund is in contention to make the squad for the tricky fixture, the news is worse on Eriksen’s front.

No specific return timeline was provided for the midfielder but Ten Hag did say it will be “weeks” before he returns, indicating a much more serious issue.

For Hojlund, Ten Hag said that it would be a close call but they will try to make him available for the Everton game. Following that fixture, his status is under no question.

The latter news will come as a huge relief to fans as Hojlund went down with an apparent strained hamstring against Luton Town which seemed serious at the time.

Eriksen was taken off before half-time in the same game to pile on Ten Hag’s nightmares.

United do have the numbers in midfield to account for Eriksen’s absence, not taking into consideration his skillset. However, the situation at the top is dire and Hojlund’s availability is a much bigger positive.

Anthony Martial has been a shadow of his former self and looks to be sleepwalking to a contract expiry at United.

Marcus Rashford in the middle has been proven to be a failed experiment and beyond those two, there’s no established forward at the club.

At worst, it could be the case that Hojlund comes off the bench against Everton if not starting the match.

Still, his mere availability, and the fact that United are not looking at going weeks without their main striker will come as huge relief to the club.

United enter an exhaustive period of fixtures now, playing almost every three days with all international breaks done and dusted till March next year.

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is reportedly a doubt to be included in the matchday squad ahead of his side’s clash against Everton.

United are set to take on the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday.

According to The Manchester Evening News, it’s possible that Pellistri will not be involved after he picked up an injury during the just-concluded November international break.

It’s believed that Pellistri sustained the setback as Uruguay cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win against Bolivia.

The United winger had to be taken off on Tuesday night, with the national team taking every precaution so as not to aggravate the player’s injury.

The exact nature and severity of Pellistri’s issue is yet to be confirmed.

Nevertheless, compound this with the fact that Uruguay is on the other side of the world and as a result of the extra long travel time, it’s unlikely Pellistri will feature against Everton.

It’s not uncommon for South American stars to be rested during games that come about immediately after an international break, even when fully fit.

United fans will undoubtedly be waiting with bated breath for an update on Pellistri’s situation.

Should the promising 21-year-old be sidelined, he will become the latest addition to an extensive injury list at Old Trafford.

All season, Erik ten Hag has to contend with the absences of key stars.

At the moment, the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo are still recovering.

Luke Shaw was also out but the Englishman recently returned to training and is likely to be in contention to face Sean Dyche’s men on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana also seemed to have suffered injuries while playing for their countries but their issues are not thought to be serious.

Manchester United’s injury crisis is what has let the team down the most in Erik ten Hag’s second season with the manager hardly having the luxury of picking his strongest XI.

The defence has been the worst hit with all four of the first-choice back four suffering long-term injuries at different points of the season which has forced Ten Hag to constantly reshuffle his pack.

Luke Shaw, out since the second game of the season, was spotted back in training but it is Lisandro Martinez who the team have missed the most with his precise passing and no-nonsense defending a hallmark of United’s great run last season.

Martinez spotted back in training

United have struggled to play out from the back in the Argentine’s absence while the defence has conceded a bucketload of goals, especially in the Champions League, which a fully-fit Martinez could certainly have prevented.

The World Cup winner was forced to undergo surgery for a metatarsal fracture he had suffered last season during the Europa League tie against Sevilla.

He returned in time for pre-season but he ended up aggravating the same injury at the start of the campaign, which led to his indifferent displays.

The 25-year-old went in for yet another surgery and was scheduled to be sidelined till the new year but in good news, the Argentina international was spotted watching his teammates training ahead of the game against Everton.

In a Sky Sports video, he was also seen walking comfortably on the grass along with a United coach and even kicked a ball around. He was all smiles in front of the camera.

Lisandro’s early return on the cards?

This potentially indicates that the former Ajax star has returned to individual training and an early return to action could be on the cards if everything goes according to plan.

Ten Hag prefers to have someone who is primarily left-footed to play on the left-hand side of the defence and in Martinez and Shaw’s absence, either Maguire, Lindelof or Evans have been played there but they have not excelled like the Argentine.

Despite his importance to the side, the United boss will be wary of throwing him into the deep end considering this was the second surgery he has had for the same problem in the space of a year.

Martinez has arguably been Ten Hag’s best signing so far and is a fan-favourite and he will need to hit top form once he comes back if he is to help United salvage the current campaign.

The tide may finally be turning for Manchester United and their lengthy injury list.

The MEN claims that United left back, Luke Shaw, could finally be available to play against Everton on Sunday, when the Premier League season resumes after the latest international break.

United have been decimated with fitness problems all season. The injuries continue to mount up with Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and possibly Rasmus Hojlund all still on the sidelines for numerous weeks.

Youngsters Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo still haven’t been able to make an appearance for the first team this season due to ongoing physical issues. Mainoo is on his way back having played vital roles in youth football this season and recently made the bench against Manchester City.

Moreover, the injury curse seemed to have taken two more players during the international break when Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana both had to be subbed off during their respective national teams’ victories on Friday night. Luckily, both injuries seem to be minor and Rashford was already available again for England’s next game.

Therefore, Luke Shaw returning to action will put a smile on all United fans’ faces.

The MEN reports that “Aaron Wan-Bissaka has recovered from a bout of illness to face Everton this weekend and Ten Hag may even welcome back Luke Shaw.

“Sharp eyes will be on training to see if he is present.”

The English international has not played since the second game of the season in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the backend of August. The 28 year old suffered a muscular injury and had to exit the field of play.

With Tyrell Malacia already injured at the start of the season and Alvaro Fernandez’s loan to Granada already seemingly in the pipeline, Shaw’s injury led to a panic-stricken United sealing their own loan deal for Sergio Reguilon on deadline day.

Shaw has been an integral part of the Manchester United team over the last few seasons. Despite horrific injury problems and morale-sapping clashes with Jose Mourinho at the start of his United career, the left back has shown his class and importance to the first team in recent years.

Last season, the man from Kingston Upon Thames played 47 times for the Red Devils, scoring one goal. However, the English defender has only played more than 40 times in a season on three occasions in what is now his tenth campaign for the club. In fact, Shaw has only played 262 times for Man United in this spell.

For comparison, Bruno Fernandes has already played 202 times for the Red Devils in what is now only his fifth season at the club. Despite all of his problems, Harry Maguire has also managed to represent the team 186 times in five seasons to date as well. As Shaw is seemingly in the peak of his career, he will hope his injury problems are finally behind him.

Sergio Reguilon will also surely fall further down the pecking order at the club but will still need to play a vital role at least until Tyrell Malacia is back. Shaw will need to be eased back into action and a packed winter schedule can be gruelling to say the least. Rotation will be key if United are to avoid heaping more injury woe onto their beleaguered squad.

Fingers crossed then that Luke Shaw and more of the injured players can get back in time to help the team navigate an intense and crucial period of the season.

Manchester United’s second season under Erik ten Hag has been devastated by injuries with the manager hardly ever getting the luxury of choosing his strongest XI.

The number has even crossed 16 and the international break has seen United No 1 Andre Onana and last season’s top-scorer Marcus Rashford added to that list.

The club even conducted an internal inquiry to find out the root cause of the injuries and now, The Guardian has claimed senior stars at the club blame Ten Hag for the mess.

Pre-season intensity leading to injuries

As per the report, the former Ajax coach increased the intensity of training during pre-season in a bid to turn the side, that had just finished third, into potential title contenders.

However, it must be remembered that the players had played in a mid-season World Cup and with the travelling involved during the pre-season tour was quite hectic.

United played eight friendlies in total with four being in Europe — Norway, Scotland, England, and Ireland while the rest were played during their 12-day trip to the United States during which they traversed across three different time zones in places such as New Jersey, San Diego, Houston, and Las Vegas.

Christian Eriksen had even taken exception to the sheer volume of travelling involved and had mentioned it in an interview with the club’s media team.

“A section of Manchester United players believe the team’s poor start is down to Erik ten Hag overworking the squad in pre-season. They have complained of beginning the campaign feeling as tired as when they finished the previous one.

“Those discontented include several senior squad members, the Guardian has been told. During pre-season the manager is thought to have upped the intensity of training in an attempt to make United title contenders.

Commercial activities led to hectic pre-season

“It is understood none have explicitly aired their concerns to the manager, who believes his players are fully committed and comprehend the need for sacrifice if United are to be consistently successful.”

The overworked bit can be a factor, especially with the club always favouring commercial activities ahead of the footballing side of things. That was on display during the pre-season to America.

But too often, this bunch of players have called out a manager for not adhering to their set standards and that must also be remembered.

It will be interesting to see if Sir Jim Ratcliffe changes the medical department as well, just like his planned structural changes, to avoid such a scenario being played out in the future.

The last two days of the international break have been a rollercoaster time for Manchester United.

After Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford were subbed off in their games due to injury concerns, United were looking at a nightmare return to club football.

However, good news first appeared on Onana’s injury front, and now Rashford has followed.

The Sun reports that Marcus Rashford took part in England training ahead of their final Euro qualifiers clash against North Macedonia.

He was present throughout the whole session and moved without any visible discomfort.

The United forward was subbed off in the 61st minute against Malta after a scary collision with Trent Alexander-Arnold left him in a heap on the floor.

The incident happened in the 57th minute but England manager Gareth Southgate struck an optimistic tone after the game, saying “he is probably OK”.

The diagnosis at the time has proven to be true now that the United forward is back in training with his national team.

Rashford will be a contender for some minutes against North Macedonia now in what would be a huge sigh of relief for Erik ten Hag.

It follows Onana’s withdrawal from the Cameroon team after adductor discomfort.

The goalkeeper is also expected to be fit for the trip to Everton on November 26, and Rashford will join him then.

Ten Hag and United fans will now be hoping that the final round of fixtures during the international break doesn’t bring any more scares as a tough run follows for the club, starting with Everton away.
